So basically because he does it for free it doesn't matter how s**t he is ? No Bobby, I don't think that's it at all. If someone is s**t then I agree with you, pointing out that the person does it for nothing simply doesn't wash. Why would it in this day and age when people pay very good money to watch football. I think the thing here is that many people think he isn't s**t and does a good job. 1. So he welcomes the away fans, so what? What is wrong with that? Nothing at all. Its a pre-season game and they are travelling up to spend money at our club. 2. He clearly got a few names mixed up but as already pointed out the team sheet (which I am sure he works from) left him at a bit of a disadvantage because as it were a pre-season game it were up in the air a bit. As Bayston pointed out... " did you hear him say at the start he would give us the team news as soon as he had the team sheet. Well he did that. There were 4 people sat behind me with the same sheet and to be fair it bore no resemblance to who was on the park. So not his fault at all ". I take you point about him doing it for nowt but that is only really relevant if he wasn't up to the job. I think people just disagree with you on that one and are happy with the way he goes about things. Chill...

With all due respect, whats wrong with welcoming away teams? Were Shrewsbury Town not bl00dy Galatasaray! And for local derbies just politely welcoming them winds them up anyway as they think there being taunted.
People from Shropshire are (generally) friendly and laid back and Ryan fully reflects this - I think he does a top job and often comes out with some quite whitty remarks which is more than can be said to the robots/wannabe DJs at other grounds. If you don't like the excellent service Ryan has provided for longer than some of us have been alive then may I suggest you being some headphones to the game and block out Ryan with some rubbish pop music - Robin Thicke is pretty sh*t so may I suggest him.
Good day!

What does that matter . Maybe all the players should have their first name on their shirts aswell, just out of respect? . I've not slagged Ryan off as being a bad person . Fair play if he does it for free (don't no why anybody would do anything for stfc for free) . He just had a shocker Saturday . It's just in general he struggles to raise any attention or get the crowd going . It's nothing about whether I respect him , I just think he's poor . A few other people seem to agree so it can't be that bizarre of an observation .

Maybe it's because he loves the club. Maybe he's the only one daft or brave enough to stand up in front 5000+ people and make the odd mistake without fear of ridicule. Maybe he gets a free ticket. Who knows? But until you can come forward with a viable alternative why can't you just accept that perfection is not attainable for any price? Personally I think it would be a great idea for Ryan to call you out of block 19 on the first home game of the season, so that you can show him how to do it. No doubt you'd soon be slinking back down into your seat.

Bet he knows when to use capital letters and how to spell Blackpool though we all have shockers some days. dont you just love it when people start picking out where you've used capitals and full stops ....it's blue and amber on an iPhone not an English exam You mean like it was a match day announcement at a pre-season friendly in front of 1,800, not the state opening of Parliament?

You know things are going pretty OK at STFC when someone gets so cranky about some errors at a friendly.
Ryan does a great job and I hope he continues in the role for a good few years yet.

Ah, so you are one of these fans who expects the matchday announcer to also be a cheerleader. So who do you suggest we get in place? Personally I find it cringeworthy being at grounds when the announcer makes some big "MAKE SOME NOISE" type shout as the players are about to kick off, particularly even more cringeworthy in the lower leagues when you have 30 teenagers trying to give a "Come On' Next thing you'll be asking for Ryan to announce the score at half time and full time, an equally cingeworthy thing they do at Wembley.

The real villain here if you really must have one is the bloody tanoy system that after 7 years STILL breaks up and stutters when Ryan welcomes the teams to the park.
No THATS an embarrassment!

The only one I'd welcome is US Soccer Guy from Twitter. Not sure everyone would appreciate the irony though, they don't always seem to on Twitter!

I suggest the OP should keep his head down at Half Time this season. I bet he wished this thread hadn't provoked such a strong response too get it hot meaning it will never be erased and now hopes that it would just fade away into page 2 and beyond. The longer it stays at page one and the closer we get too kickoff more forum users will return it's pretty likely he will get recognised or identified it cannot be too hard as his Forum name itself narrows it down too a one block.
Can we still send in requests for half time denouncements?

Wow this has blown out of proportion, what happened to free speech in this country ? Everyone gives ther own view on anything in life weather it's you're manger at work or the annoying scrap man waking you up at 7am on Sunday !! Everyone who has commented angry about the thread take a step back and think yeah I have picked someone's faults either to a friend or kept to you're self and maybe this thread should of been kept to there self. This maybe you're friend or u no well but he's part of a business at stfc so it's gonna get brought up. Rather focus on are new season

Please please can we put this one to bed. There are a lot of other things that should be occupying our minds at the moment, not least of all the complete change of direction in which the club is going. I know Ryan makes me cringe sometimes and yes he does get mixed up occasionally....and I wish he would stop broadcasting his own opinion sometimes about how a player played the week before etc etc etc...but.... I took Ryan on in the first place......I used to do what he is doing now......we didn't have all the sophistication that he now has at his disposal.....roving microphones......cd and multi media.......I used to go up to Durrants on the Cop, select the top ten singles, borrow them on the condition that they had them back on Monday morning so that they could sell them.....I'd walk around the pitch when the Meadow was full or near kick off just to make sure that it was all working ok....all because I love my local footy team. Nothing has changed there . Ryan was and is Shrewsbury Town through and through; he doesn't get a penny for what he does..he actually spends a lot of his own time and money to keep things going...because he loves his local team and, at the moment, enjoys what he is doing....if some of you carry on that will change. The problems we do have with the PA are not his doing......it was a crap system when it was installed and no one is prepared to admit it....same scenario as the score board (bored).

An excellent post. I know Ryan as I too was part of the education system and a more pleasant, polite person you couldn't wish to meet. This post really has been most unpleasant and in my view unnecessary but this is a free board and everyone is entitled to their opinions on it. However, I for one hope Ryan carries on just as he is. He is part of our club, part of the match day experience and if he feels he wants to welcome away fans and players then good for him. Rather be like us than Cardiff (and this isn't a cue to start off about them again either!!!)
