I find his welcoming the away supporters a nice touch and quite amusing when it's met with boos from the home crowd when the likes of Walsall or vale visit. That's also my favourite aspect of "a warm Shropshire welcome." My favourite Jervis moment was the 2-1 win over Chester in 2006, when after receiving dogs abuse from all the Chester fans (and a couple of Coke bottles,) Ben Davies scrappily tucked in the equaliser. Jervis then said "Goalscorer for the Town, everyone's favourite player......Ben Davies

Just a small point on etiquette , but I do think that the title of the opening post lacks a certain amount of respect.. Surely the man deserves to be addressed as Ryan Jervis, not just JERVIS. He,s one of us, not some -one we don,t know. The stance taken is open for debate, obviously, no problem with that, but the title lacks class. Think he deserves better than that.

We should also mention Ryan's sidekick Frank, who reads out the half and full time scores and stands in for Ryan whenever he is away, I think he has been doing the job for as long as Ryan has! Going to be controversial but I think Frank is better. Thing is though Ryan Jervis is part of the furniture at Shrewsbury and it will be a sad day when he hangs up the mic.

Time for Frank to take the mic? You know it is, it really is. Thank you.

I do recall the whole of the riverside wanting Ryan's head on a stick when he congratulated Grazioli on a hat trick when he was playing for brizzle rovers who were tonking us at home one year. Whilst I don't think thanking the away support for making the effort is an altogether bad thing that is taking the p**s. Hopefully the reaction he got that day made sure he hasn't done anything like it again. No need for that at all.

It could be a lot worse just think your BT Phone bill and licence fee pays for Jake Humphery,Michael Owen,Phil Neville and Mark Lawrenson whether you like Football or not. If he does it for nothing that's' admirable and mean's that you yourself can Volunteer your own services.Let's see how long you last.Half empty Stadium,2/3rds of that taking no notice and some of those criticising you?

Mr Bobby, you are very angry about this matter . Take a moment to reflect what is important in your life and if you still feel that inner rage then I suggest you contact STFC and ask to meet Ryan to discuss your concerns face to face.

Did you miss a goal at the Half-Time challenge?Or did Lenny miss you out with the sweeties again? Who actually takes much notice of what get's announced or played over the tannoy? I'm usually sorting the Kid's out or chatting to mates/supporters to hear anything.

So basically because he does it for free it doesn't matter how s**t he is ? Did he steal your ball or something? You certainly seem to have a real issue about this. In all seriousness therefore if you feel that bad about it then I suggest you contact the club and volunteer to take on his job yourself or alternatively ask to shadow Ryan for a number of home games to get a better idea of what it's like to do the role on match days. Me personally I think he's done a damn good job over the years and I hope he continues to do so for a long time to come.

So basically because he does it for free it doesn't matter how s**t he is ? I've tried to stay clear of this thread, but you are not making it easy to like you or take your side. Granted there are probably a lot of good football announcers out there, many better than Ryan Jervis no doubt, but he is ours and I (and many others) like him. He's not perfect, but neither is anyone else and given the material he sometimes has to work with I think does a bloody good job. Do you really think that you could find anyone better? I'm assuming that should you find someone better that you'll be picking up the tab and will no doubt be sacking them the second they mis-pronounce a players name. Christ I remember back in the '90s a certain Timmy Lynch playing for us if you believed some of the stadium announcers around the country.

In Bobbies defence we are quick to moan when the scoreboard gets it wrong. The only thing i would like Ryan to change is to stop reading out the premiership scores(spoils motd knowing the score)! Does anyone remember the announcer at Cardiff in 92 i think wishing us a safe journey back to our coaches. I remember being out the Grange end in the car park afterwards

So basically because he does it for free it doesn't matter how s**t he is ? There is loads worse bobby and they get paid it is not worth the kicking up your giving it honestly. I had a giggle today at his expense but that's it. We make mistakes. Lets face it there's been far worse issues over the last 24 months COUGH COUGH 7 years lets be grateful.

everything I've wrote about Jervis is correct . Some people think mistakes are acceptable and some people don't. I don't see why you have to label this pathetic ? It seems to me it's just the old timers (like you) who think he's part of the furniture . I assume you are perfect then? and what's it with the old timers, you'll be one one day If you are lucky.

You've got to be pretty angry about something else in your life to vent such ire over the performance of a voluntary announcer at a pre-season football match.

hmm ok... I wasn't there but he is usually more than adequate, either way show some respect for a long serving employee of salop. like GT . He's on the downhill slope and should call it a day before he's shown the door Maybe we should get in a more "Modern" PA man who can run round yelling "I CAN'T HEAR YOU MOTHERF**KERS" or "PUMP IT UP". How about no.

If every match day announcer were to be relieved of his/her duties for making the odd error most clubs would see a new incumbent every couple of weeks. No-one is perfect but Ryan is one of the best that I have encountered in the lower leagues. His love of the club comes through but so too does his sense of fairness and professionalism. I hope that he sticks around as long as feels he can do a decent job.

It is despicable that this thread should run to three full pages just because someone chooses to be critical in such a way and a way that is totally unwarranted. I hope that this keyboard warrior gets at some point to examine his conscience and refrains from making such comments in the future, though maybe next time he does it face to face with his chosen victim that they knock his lights out, ideally by an old timer.

Spot on, the volume of response and the sentiments expressed so eloquently by so many reflect the respect the majority of Shrewsbury fans hold for Ryan Jervis, who has been for so many of us been an integral part of the STFC matchday experience for as long as I can remember just like the team running out to catch us if you can. The day he hangs his microphone up will be a sad day. While I respect anyone is welcome to express an opinion, I think Bobby needs to accept the best thing he can do now is just zip it.
