My two standout memories of Ryan, are from the great escape season at Exeter. We'd driven down to stay at Torquay for the weekend, so we were walking back to our car, which was parked about half a mile from the ground. Ryan came out at the same time as us, so we all strolled along together. It was then that I realised what a great passion he had for Shrewsbury, and yes, I did enjoy the experience of having a good rattle to him.
The other memory I have of him, was at Gay Meadow when we were playing Halifax. Their club was slowly dying, and we didn't help their cause by beating them, in effect, sending them down. At the end of the match, as their supporters were trudging out, Ryan to the mic to say he was sure he was speaking for all of us in wishing them good luck for the rest of the season. The Town fans all applauded and I can still remember some of the devastated Shay supporters turning to clap back. A lovely thought from Ryan
He's a class act.

Nice man , good voice but past it now and should hang up the mic. A bit like blowers on Test match special makes far too many mistakes and it's sometimes a bit awkward to hear him knowing his next blooper is just round the corner

Some very disappointing comments about Ryan on here.
The tannoy announcements by Mr J are part of the fabric of our club. The good manners and civility shown by Ryan set the standard for other clubs announcers, in my book.
I was there yesterday and it was incredibly difficult to work out who was who. The numbers on players shirts did not tie up to team sheet and Watford gave out no numbers in the programme. Mr J did well to cope.
I hope we see many more years of dedicated service from this man.

Is it a case that the normal moaning about what's going on, on the pitch has nothing to moan about. Its sadly human nature in football that we have to have something to grumble about.

The tannoy announcements by Mr J are part of the fabric of our club. Interesting comment - you have never cared for the 'fabric of our club' in previous years. Ryan Jervis is an extremely good announcer. We'll miss him when he's gone.

One of the best stadium announcers. Knows exactly the right way to do the job.
Obviously I don't know, but I expect it's not easy to do. Why don't you apply to do it? See how you cope.
I thought STFC fans were better than this.

Ryan is part of the furniture for me, how ever many changes you see on the pitch, in the dugouts or even the boardroom, he will still be there. He's just a mad Town supporter like the rest of us and who am I right in thinking that he has never picked up a penny for his services?

Bet he knows when to use capital letters and how to spell Blackpool though we all have shockers some days. dont you just love it when people start picking out where you've used capitals and full stops ....it's blue and amber on an iPhone not an English exam You were the one who started the "picking" and apologies didn't realise there are no capitals available on an iphone.

To add my two pennies worth, I am more concerned with matters on the pitch than Ryan on the PA. Yes he may make the odd blunder, but he has been around since before I started following the town and I can forgive him for any mistakes he makes. It certainly isn't going to effect my match day experience.

Some people think mistakes are acceptable and some people don't. I don't see why you have to label this pathetic ? It seems to me it's just the old timers (like you) who think he's part of the furniture .

The team on the team sheet said that Caton was playing and that was confirmed by Rusholme Ruffian on the Watford topic. A late change meant that Akpa-Akpro was playing instead. That change happening after Ryan was presented with the team sheet. Just wind it in. You were right about one thing, I am an old timer and one day you will grow up to.

Poor thread.
They usually are when started by this poster, good to see his opinion is outweighed by the sensible majority.
Keep up the good work Ryan.

Have some sympathy with Ryan. At the start of any season I always end up yelling at a player following a missed chance or tackle, only to look a complete prat as I've got the wrong player
Going to be November before I work out who everyone is!
Have always liked the way we welcome the opposition fans, players and staff. Think it's a nice touch especially in the lower league where fans travel hundreds of miles, often on weekday nights to watch their team play.

A typical Saturday night post.
Bobby if you want to stick your neck out and blast someone at the club I'd expect you to have the balls to take the accompanying flak.
You made your point. Not many folks agreed with you. Move on.
15 new signings. Errors on the team sheet. Not an easy job to keep track.
Even the ever excellent Colin Bloomfield on shrewsplayer commented several times how difficult it was to keep up with the new faces.
As for the 'Warm Shropshire Welcome' piece... What would you prefer? Why would anyone be averse to our club being anything but welcoming to away fans? These folks after all help to pay for all these new players we are being treated to.

Ryan is a very welcome antidote to the Americanised over the top announcers you get at other clubs who feel the need to scream down the mike before kick off or after a goal, as if fans need a cue to know when to be excited.

Giving Ryan any stick is quite mind boggling to me. If you go through an entire season, you can count the number of mistakes he makes on one hand. How many other grounds do we go to where we are not even acknowledged by the home announcer, yet since I have been going to games (since 82) he has always welcomed the players, officials and supporters of the visiting side. I think it will be a sad day when he hangs up the mic, and I think we will struggle to replace his professionalism. I think the club should allow anyone who moans about the job he is doing the opportunity to do one league game to show that they are actually better than he is. I can guarantee not one of the moaners would do it.

This boy has had a shocker today . First off he said caton was playing which ok , maybe wasn't his fault . He got numerous numbers of players wrong . Then at the end he said replacing number 3 demetriou is number 3 Ben burton!! The bloke has lost the plot . He's useless . How many times he thanked and payed tribute to watfords fans I don't know! Nobody ever thanks is us at away games !! (The only one I can remember is Lincoln ) . God knows what time he's going to have to start announcing the team against Blackpool by the time he's given every single one of them one of his nice big Shropshire welcome !! Maybe if he starts mid afternoon he might be done! Although he will probably be paying tribute to black pools state at the moment ! Jervis out !! It is better to keep your mouth closed and let people think you are a fool than to open it and remove all doubt. Mark Twain

We should also mention Ryan's sidekick Frank, who reads out the half and full time scores and stands in for Ryan whenever he is away, I think he has been doing the job for as long as Ryan has!

In Bobbies defence we are quick to moan when the scoreboard gets it wrong. The only thing i would like Ryan to change is to stop reading out the premiership scores(spoils motd knowing the score)! Does anyone remember the announcer at Cardiff in 92 i think wishing us a safe journey back to our coaches.

I would have been all at sea yesterday trying to work out who was who....so what if Ryan made a mistake or two, he's only human after all and I for one will be sad when he finally hangs up the mic after all these years (hopefully not for a few years yet) He is part of the fabric of our club, top bloke in my opinion.

As a so called "old timer" I find the phrase offensive. Having been a victim of age prejudice in the workplace it is not a particularly pleasant situation to be in.
