Its not cost effective when someone is paying for his transport costs and hotel bills and all the lunches and dinners he will surely claim for like the rest always do. Split the wage in 2 and have a Exec in each area 5 days a week, im sure there would be someone happy to pick up £125,000 a year just ask a nurse.

For as long as we have this government we will never all be in it together. They are just a bunch of cheating hypocrites who don't have a clue about fairness or honesty.

Kind of on-topic; the area I used to work, Witney in Oxfordshire, South Central had failed to get above 60% on their 8 min targets for calls of life threatening nature for the last 6 years. Witney lost its ambulance station in 2003.
I was first on scene at a road traffic accident in the area, two cars head on - one driver life threatening; one driver life changing. Upshot is, the retained fire fighters got there 15 minutes after my call, followed by whole time fire fighters 5 minutes after. Followed by a first responder paramedic 25 minutes after my first call. With a meat wagon turning up 30 minutes after my call.
That night, I sat for 30 minutes feeling like a lemon as the lady driver died, essentially in my arms. Now I doubt she could have been saved, but they were the longest 30 minutes of my life.
Prime Minister Cameron (who's constituency is Witney) is now pressing for the Ambulance base to re-open. Cynically, one could suggest this is pandering to his voters?

Telford and Wrekin aiming to privatise enablement services for older people and those who need help, already messed about with in Shropshire. What a nasty society we live in.

My 2 lucky stfc bears Rowland and Graham have decided they are not in it together, they are paid nothing and the only benefit they receive is coming out of the cupboard on match days.
They are looking forward to hosting a stfc supporters evening at the railway inn yorton on Thursday evening october 9th. All being well, the bears join me in wishing the board, management, squad and you all a floreat salopsalopia!
Just hope young Albert remembers all the new names at the meddah

At least the Labour Party do not accept 6 figure donations from Russian oligarchs while the rest off Europeans are lambasted because they are looking after their interests one word to describe Cameron and his Eton cronies - hypocrites.

But what I do know is that this lot just don't care about anyone who is frail, disabled, ill or in any other way you care to name vulnerable and for this alone I condemn them wholeheartedly.

[]Yeah just let them bankrupt the nation AGAIN Strange, I thought it was a global crisis sparked by a collapse of the private sector banking system? I never realised the last labour government was running the economies of every major global economy in the world. Well you live and learn!

Whoever gets in next time needs to sort out the taxation of people and companies who earn money in the UK; sort out all public sector workers including politicians and link their wages, issues such as prp, expenses and increases together; complete the re-jig of the benefits system for long term unemployed and encourage businesses to move/set-up in areas away from london - especially in areas of high unemployment, introducing tax incentives etc.

Not really, the fact they ruined the economy and took us to a war that never should have been is enough reason for me to hope they never win another election. or do you think allowing our people to die for nothing was a just cause by Blair?

Why the hell do we need a chief executive for an ambulance service in the first place Why doesn't each hospital have it's own ambulances run by the local. NHS trust Many European countries have an ambulance service and come to that a fire service manned by volunteers which works very well and I'm pretty sure they don't have chief executive being paid zillions Im no expert but from the little I read most ambulance services don't reach their targets i.e arrive late and let people die so is the chief executive held responsible for these death As you you can see I'm pretty hacked off by the local service in Shrewsbury who's chief lied re the new ambulance hub at the bottom of Longden Rd only being a service area although far far more emergency journeys than planned start their passing 2 secondary schools (and my house) between 20 an 30 times a day......... dont really care what he's paid as long as he's held legally accountable for reaching targets and responsible for any consequences of late arrivals by HIS service! Rant over

Ooooh you're itching for an argument arnt you! Bless! Well to be honest I think you're hopelessly wrong about the economy, but the Iraq war? At the time and for quite some time after I was convinced it was just and the right thing to do, regardless of arguments about legality. Saddam was an animal who deserved to die horribly. Now I'm not so sure. Though I don't think the enquiry ever came out and said TB lied or acted illegally (though I could be wrong). Of coarse those with the inclination will just claim it was all rigged and covered it up so who knows. Better now

Do you mean the ex Labour Government were responsible for the financial crisis ?

Mrbunny. Tell me how exactly Labour ruined our economy last time. Genuine question and interested in your reasons for saying so but spare me The Daily Mail answer please. Illegal war ? probably right and Blair was a disgrace for committing us to that ( but he's a Tory anyway ) but then prime ministers have always followed that route when votes are available. Falklands anyone ?

Wonder if Blair thought that his war would do for him what Falklands did for Thatcher? Maybe you need to loose it first and then win it back like Maggie did with the Falklands? Maybe Cammeron will wait for the Scots to vote for independence and then re-invade them as his quest for glory?
At least Gordon did not commit us to the Euro. Didn't recent reports show that after all these years of austerity, austerity for working people anyway, we now have a national debt bigger than ever? Come election time the Tories have some explaining to do on the doorsteps!

Whether of not Labour policies caused the economic crisis (and that's a narrative that doesn't really stack up but that's another debate) the OP was really about the fairness of the measures being put in place to address the problem and reduce the deficit
What I'm definitely clear about is the economic crisis wasn't caused by the sick, disabled, young and unemployed, yet they are the ones paying proportionately the biggest slice of the austerity measures.
During the tough austerity measures the top 20% of earners actually got a tax cut, and to really stick the knife in public sector contracts are getting sold off on the cheap to the very same wealthy people to make more money.
Remember this austerity led government sold off Royal Mail for £1 billion less than its worth and George Osbourne's best man made £20 million out of it in less than a week. Great economic policy - if your rich and powerful
