So to summarise, a non league injury prone journeyman with a record of gambling and fighting and a large salary?! I've been impressed with MMs recuitment so far but really not convinced by this fella.

He's not worth the hassle.
I don't think he will offer anything positive to this team.

I picked our season tickets up yesterday afternoon about 2 ish. Wasn't offered a vote slip, though I've already voted anyway. Roland was just leaving. Don't like big flash cars but fair play, his Bentley sounds cracking!
Any hoo, MM was stood outside reception talking to someone on the phone. I couldn't hear everything, but definitely heard him say "oh hello, it's mikey here, I'm calling regarding......."
Make of THAT what you will!

About the same time I noticed a guy from Dominos Pizza was leaving the shop heading in the direction of the Greenhouse Meadow with a number of meat feast pizzas on his motorbike. Muttered something about new guy wanting all the toppings where as last season the only orders they got were for a basic cheese topping

Mm confirmation on radio Shropshire that mangan is the target and should be sorted soon. Good goal record for 3 clubs but discipline issue at fgr apparently means they terminated his contract after one season of 3. Reported on 3 or 2.5k a week !!

Got a feeling the flash RR may be something to do with Super Blues Way ?
Talk of an international high flying contractor doing the job surely the sort of vehicle they'd use?

Shrewsbury Town manager Micky Mellon expects to complete a deal to sign striker Andy Mangan - as he hailed the quality of the club’s Scott Vernon. Mellon is now closing in on Forest Green Rovers striker Mangan, 27, a player he knows well as the Liverpudlian was part of the Fleetwood squad he led into the Football League. Mangan counts Blackpool, Accrington Stanley, Bury and Wrexham as his former clubs. www.shropshirestar.com/sport/shrewsbury-town-fc/2014/07/21/shrewsbury-town-set-to-sign-andy-mangan/

Having watched the friendlies v Cheserfield and v Watford, and based on those two games I would regard the full back positions as our weakness!

I believe Mangan is currently training with the squad.
I have reservations about him, hopefully unfounded and he won't be a bad egg that unsettles the squad. Would rather MM save the cash until we need to bolster any weakenesses found in the squad during the season!

Fair point, although we know only too well how difficult it is to address weaknesses once the season's underway and the transfer window closes - especially in the striker department! I'd give him the benefit of the doubt, especially as Mellon knows him well.

:-/With Robinson and Lawrence in the squad, I doubt that Mangan will get the chance to play the "little s**t" role. These two pro's who have played at a much higher level will surely put him firmly in place. Anyway, this is all supposition, Mangan could be a great asset to the team, so it's a big warm Shropshire welcome to Andy Mangan. ( almost Ryanesque).

Two years ago he was a very hot prospect having scored 62 goals in just 3 conference seasons, aside from one where he had a serious injury.
I think Mellon's recruitment thus far gives him the right to take a punt on a player.
Is he the lower league's Trundle? Who knows - at least it will add a bit to the drama.

Initially I was underwhelmed but he is a proven goalscorer in just a division below us.
A decent 4th choice striker.
Do we need anymore signings now? Our squad looks very strong and it's going to be interesting to see what team Mellon picks

Could call it a "Wild Card"

On SKY's transfer thread
15:14 Notts County have taken former Birmingham striker Akwasi Asante on trial after he turned down a move to Shrewsbury Town.
Turned us down? or not offered a deal?
