It was a friendly and we all know how little the results in friendlies mean when the first league comes along on the 9th August.
Unfortunately I have nothing to moan about, that was one of the best Town performances I have seen over the last 5 seasons.
The difference from last season were amazing Salop played pacey, skillful and entertaining football.
At this stage it would be unfair to over praise or criticises individuals, it was an excellent team performance.
I wonder what odds I can get on a Town Collins double.
I hope Mellon signs up Asante, Robinson and Jordan Clarke.
The Town are going to have a very strong bench this season.
It was great to see Town players and trialist making up the team and not a loanee in sight.
When was the last time the Town scored from a corner.

Not all a bed of roses, like the Curates Egg, good in parts. But considering it was our first game, it looks promising. Vermon and Lawrence will get better, Collins can be our 20 goals a season striker, Wesolowski excellent, maybe our team captain, and Robinson needs to be signed up pronto. And Goldson played better at central defender than midfield, we're he looked lost! Grandison needs to shape up, the days of the step-overs should be a thing of the past.
Good to hear MM shouting instructions from the side, and not standing with his arms folded. And good to hear him scream for us to keep the ball, during a spell were we passed it around about 20 times without losing the ball. Looks like we are shaping up to be a side that will play football and not a hoof- ball outfit..
Overall a good performance at this stage, but improvement needed all round. Should come with match fitness and the lads getting to gel as a team.

Robinson always impressed me playing for Tranmere - anyone know why he wasn't in their side towards end of the season and got released?
Know he's getting on a little but would seem good addition in league 2

I really enjoyed that. I thought Caton, Wesolowski and Collins in particular were brilliant, but there were plenty of good performances and some very neat and tidy football.
Today must also have been one of very few instances when all of our trialists looked very useful. If we have a couple more signings to come out of that group, as Mellon implied the other day, then that's very good news on today's evidence.

Looking forward to what is to come..........
Get Jordan Clarke on-board and Robinson as well asap.........
Like the 3 across the middle too.......
If Clarke does sign I can see a starting eleven with only Goldson from last season getting regular first team football as it appears MM wants to play 3 across the middle in defence.......
Grando ,no where near fit today, Woodsy , Wildy and Macco could be doing a fair bit of bench warming I reckon..........

Some really good football by Town for a pre season game. I thought Collins and Caton where brilliant 1st half. Wesoloski was also eye catching. 2nd half saw many changes with the Trialists given some time. Andy Robinson was all out to get a contract and deserves 1 on that showing. Number 12 took his goal well and also cleared 1 of the line. Number 16 looked nippy and intelligent at times. 1 concern and that was Akpro who was lazy never tracking back and was asked by his own team to do so but never did. I will watch him now with a little more interest. Overall 8/10 Team. MOTM 1st half Collins 2nd half Robinson.

I know they kept a clean sheet today but if there's one area I'm still not quite sold on, it's our defence.
Perhaps that will change once I've seen a couple more games but NKP, Ellis didn't look quite as solid as I'd hoped and Demetriou will have to improve if he is to make us forget JJ!
Really hard to judge right now though.

I thought Knight-Percival looked strong and was also impressed with Demetriou.

No one has mentions the goal keeper today! I don't know if that's a good thing or not...?

There was one Sweeper/Keeper type incident in the first half that was a bit shaky, but got away with it thankfully...
I wonder if we're going to see more of that this season after the German Keepers antics in the World Cup?
