Last season we had 3 psf, this year 4 with the biggest overhaul of players I can remember.
is it just me that feels we are at least 2 missing. Just seen AFCTU list, they have 9 including 3 championship sides.... Could be to many eh? Balance is key to try to gel, but also not wanting to many injuries

We have 5 pre season friendlies confirmed with one more to be announced. Last season we also had six.

Had no idea what all the initialisms meant until I scrolled down and read Mark's reply. Please tell me I wasn't the only one!
Time for bed, methinks.

Doubt all the newbies will gel together properly till several games into the season - as long as we start the first 10 games reasonably I'll be happy

Cant see a problem myself as it all about Wimbledon not Watford or whoever else we play. Friendlies mean nothing in my opinion pinch of salt. They play A V B in training you know even A V B V C 3 way game. Anyhow Rolo is putting on free Breakfast so they can get to know each other.

I don't think there's too much room to be having a moan at this stage. We have two dedicated guys who really want this club to succeed and they are bringing in a group of players that are actually our players. Looks like the chairman has also chipped in which is very positive, and maybe now he will know what needs to be done in potential higher divisions if that opportunity rose again. No loans yet, they will all know each other and Tam/Winfield are gone for good. This summer couldn't have gone any better in my opinion, although most of that is because we have a final to win on Sunday.

At this stage nothing has been achieved.
Mellon and co have it all to do yet.
As we have just seen someone (Turner) leave the club with a proven record of getting teams out of div2 i'm not convinced Mellon can do it at all. That's my concern for this season.
I'm probably in a minority of one thinking this but i'm not getting carried away with the mellon love in that seems to be going on.

Of course I will reserve judgment for the manager during the season, but as you say I believe he's done everything right so far.

Our team will have had much longer to gel than the string of loan signings who represented us last season.

You may think he has but I all I see is a bunch of players hastily assembled in an effort to encourage fans to renew their season tickets. It might pay off but Mellon hasn't achieved anything with those players yet and if he does then and only then will I admit that he had done the right thing in signing them all.

I don't think the number of friendlies matters much. Usually nobody gets stuck in or plays at full pelt in pre-season games, so they are just glorified training sessions anyway. What is good is that almost the entire squad will have been together for all of pre-season training. This makes me optimistic, although I expect it'll take a few real games before the team is firing on all cylinders. I'd be quite happy with a few draws to kick off with. It might even be better if we didn't win the first couple - if we did then I'm sure expectations would sky-rocket and some people would start silly talk of strolling to the title.

Mark and I will always disagree on last years, I am going by what was published on the official website, which was 3 games, I made a mistake due to not seeing the Watford game, so apologies for that, still think we are 1 short but its a minor concern of mine. not a moan.

Virtually a brand new squad, new manager, new forward thing Chief Exec, it appears that Roland has listened ...WOW..my only concern is that poor old Ryan Jervis will knacker himself asking us all to give " a big Shrewsbury welcome to.(insert name here) as he works his way through the team line up at the first home match of the season

'Maybe', 'presumably', 'what if','have we done enough'..........
I can understand people starting to get edgy. Mellon has not only brought players that can do a job, at a higher level than this as well, but he has brought players in with a footballing brain....it does help. We talk about 'gelling' and the time needed to do that. These players will do that quickly. Their brains are such that they can find the 'move' or the player instead of saying 'well you should have been there'. These are players that can walk into a side and play as if they have been there a while.
The players he has brought in have got the winning mentality, in other words they won't want to lose.
I am sure we will all be more than happy with the style and manner in which we play.

Technically we had 6 last year but:
TNS (behind closed doors so cant really comment on the standard) Galatasary (had the feel of a exhbition/testimonial match) Liverpool Development Team Bolton Birmingham Man City Development Team
It was only the Bolton & Birmingham games where Id suggest they were decent tests.
This year we have 5 games against various levels so Im a lot happeir than what we had last season

Don't see any problem. Surely need to see how friendly games go. The odd loan player could fill any potential gaps in the squad.

Training A v B and A V B V C 3way game thats what i posted. The opening posts refers to concerns about PSF i have just added what else goes on to add to the gelling process. When i was a kid you would call it Tops v Skins and 3 way game could be Blue v Red v Green.

Whose pictures will appear on there and will it be in time to the announcements. Will one of last season's players faces appear or will there be a comedy picture of Fairborne beach added by mistake...

I think we could maybe do with 1 more game but then again pre season friendlies are fairly overated in terms of preparation for actual matches. If anything a 11v11 on the main pitch with 2 town sides would be as beneficial as anything, let people in for free and Mellon can try a first 11 out and swap players around if he fancies someone else in the first 11

Not too concerned about the pre season friendlies really as if the squad is professional and Mellon a good coach they should be fit and ready to go when the season starts. Sure they will chip in with a few behind closed door games to
As for the season ahead my main concern will be the expectation levels of the fans, and our perceived status as a favourite to go up amongst other clubs
May take a few months for the side to really and if we are mid table come October people might get worried.
I can see sides coming to Shrewsbury and shutting up shop making it difficult for us to break down. Too early to say if we have the quality of players to break that sort of side down on a regular basis
