To be quite honest though it’s still expensive for 4th tier football. I personally still wouldn’t want to pay 20 quid to watch 4th division football. The only real value for money is the early bird. And before anyone does a price comparison, football in this country is expensive full stop. Maybe clubs need to look at how clubs operate in Germany, I understand match sponsorship is more costly there but appears to enable cheaper admission for the supporters!

When you look to how things are here in Germany you just shake yer head and wonder how on earth it came to this. I will be able to watch 3rd division football here in Germany this season for 10 Euro (about 8 pounds). The Kickers play Dortmund in the cup next month and a ticket is going to cost me just under 14 Euro (about 11 pounds). And the thing is the standard of football on offer in England just does not justify the difference in price. Not by a long shot. Yet fans of 4th and 3rd division clubs in England are expected to pay over twice as much for the privilege. Rum.

Stutty, what is the average attendance for the Kickers and how to attendances in the 2nd and 3rd tier in Germany compare to the our football league? More people attend game in the 2nd and 3rd divisions in England. I think its well known that the Championship is one of the best supported divisions in Europe. Whether that means more people in England watch football than in Germany I'm unsure as once you hit the German fourth tier it splits into five regional leagues. Kickers get about 3500. Here are the attendances figures from last season... www.liga3-online.de/die-zuschauertabelle-der-3-liga/Very much a mixed bag as you have second teams included and you tend to get the odd club from a small town who make decent progress here in Germany. Sandhausen in the second division for example has a population of just 15,000. Next season we have another local team from this way in Grossapach playing in the third division. They're from Aspach and that has a population of just 8,000.

Town will have three cash turnstiles for the Watford game. They say it is a one off, but maybe also a trial?

20 sits us right in the mix when it comes to comparison. It doesn't make us responsible for taxing away fans. It means you can invite friends without being embarrassed. Cheapest matchday price was 21 for adults last season. Being very pedantic and it depends on what you term as matchday pricing but up until an hour before kick off, you could get a ticket for £19. Your viewpoint on the whole ticketing issue will depend on how much you know and how you got tickets last year. For those online who have been aware of the ticketing prices and policy for next year, this is huge step in the right direction and the club are rightly being applauded for taking the decision to revise their original plans. But for those who werent aware of all that and get todays Star with the headline "Shrewsbury slash cost of match-day tickets", they will be confused because previously they could get a ticket for between £16 and £21 whereas now they will be paying £20. Where does the slashing come in? I completely agree with your point about being embarrased, last week I was speaking to a few premier league fans who occasionally come to games, they asked about prices for next year and I actually said I hadnt seen them. Compare that to a conversation I just had with an Oxford fan where I could take the moral high ground on away supporters prices!

It's good they put it out now and judged the fan's reactions rather than doing it mid season and try and go through the hassle of refunding those who bought one or refused to attend games because of it. The Flexi ticket looks less appealing now for a £90 outlay you will save £2 a game. If you buy a 1 Adult Flexi ticket if an additional Child come's along do you pay the Matchday price or the kid's per game flexi price?

Am I being paranoid when I think this was all just a big PR exercise designed to make it look like the fans are being listened to? It would have been outrageous to charge more after a relegation and I don't think anyone at the club would have been stupid enough to give it any kind of serious thought. I think we have experienced a classic example of an "Ask for tuppence, take a penny" strategy. Surely not even Roland Wycherley could have believed that a £23 matchday ticket price would be accepted. The Board assisted by their new CEO have escaped quite neatly from the £16 dynamic pricing experiment, to a £20 matchday ticket price. The sad thing is, with a bit of success/entertainment on the pitch, dynamic pricing might have taken us towards average home gates of 6000. It's insulting our intelligence for Matt W. to claim that dynamic pricing was too complex for fans to understand. We understood it perfectly well, but when the entertainment was as poor as last season not even an attractive ticket price could persuade fans to attend more games. As it is,some ST holders will be relieved to renew at £330, others will stubbornly resent a price increase after a relegation. The flexi-ticket may suit a few, but it doesn't carry a sufficient incentive to pay upfront for it to be a big success. Whether our online ticket system can cope with its complexities remains to be seen. Cash turnstiles for a friendly are an indicator that the ticketing system may not be in the rudest of health. We have to hope that success on the pitch will make this piece of silly season nonsense rapidly fade from the memory.

I see the shropshire star has made another cock up!
They have stated that the higher pricing structure is for category a MATCHES instead of seats which could confuse a lot of people.

Do find the ticket thing a little odd As ticket income represents a significant proportion of the clubs income, I’d have thought it’s something the club would consider in great detail and base the ticket prices on an estimated income models needed throughout the year. Clearly if you have a good season and get decent cup runs ticket income and attendances will be increased, but there should be a reasonable idea of what income is expected and ticket prices based on that basis. While I didn’t particularly like the ticket increases published a few weeks ago you could understand the need to up prices based on the signings made in the summer and the plan to bounce straight back up, whilst also balancing the budget. I’m not quite sure how you can then rewrite this strategy a few weeks later? Great from a PR point of view but are the prices sustainable? Is there the potential for it to hit our income later in the season, or to have to significantly increase prices next season, especially if we do get back in league one.
Not really clear if the prices the club charge for tickets are based on what the club needs from a finance point of view or what they think they can get away with charging

I think he meant 21 quid was the price of a ticket brought on a matchday (after 2)

I bring 2 12-16 year olds with me.
Last year this was £19 + £5 + £3 = £27
Based on the link it is £24 + 12 = £36
Unless I am reading it wrong that is an increase of £9 per game - or nigh on 36%
Seeking clarification if a second junior will attract a discount as previous. If not that means I shall be missing at quite a few games this season

His e-mail address is Greg.Douglas@shrewsburytown.co.uk he has answered both of my queries raised so far in a very quick and efficient manner. Would be interested in the reply once you have it. It is the same for additional U/11's too, which have been free the last 2/3 seasons.

I sent this off to Greg Douglas this morning. Think I may be flogging a dead horse...?
Hi Greg. Just a quick query regarding this seasons ticket pricing. I am sure that you have had more than a few concerned fans (customers) regarding this issue, but would like to hear from you directly as to why it has become more expensive, and indeed unafordable for me to bring my two sons to watch the team they love this season? This is after a declaration on the Shrewsbury Town website that, "our match day prices will be cheaper than they were for the 2013/14 season". This just isn't the case. Last season we could attend a home game for up to £21, (cheaper if I knew that I had the time off in advance and could get the tickets weeks earlier). This season there is no flexibility at all, and no advantage to getting tickets early, and will cost me £27! I cannot afford a season ticket, or the upfront outlay for a flexi-ticket, (which incidentally if I could stretch to, would still see me out of pocket of a minimum of £2 per game when compared to last seasons prices!) My kids and I have been looking forward to seeing what looks like a dynamic Shrewsbury squad in action on a regular basis this season, (albeit in a lower league than previous) but will have to spend more Saturday afternoons listening to commentary on the radio than the preferred option of supporting in the stands. Would the club really rather have less bums on seats this season? Sincerely P.S. Your pricing for the Watford friendly was also somewhat obtuse. Why Under 11's £1 and 11+ £5, when normal matchday prices are categorised 11 and under? When I queried this, (expecting to pay £13, and in fact having to pay £17), the rather curt reply was "this is a friendly match, and besides, all our prices are changing!" Some explanation!

Reply from Greg. Seems reasonable with regards of season ticket holders, but as my reply to this email stated, it is the childrens prices that I am disappointed with. £20 for an adult is reasonable enough. Guess I will let it lie now and look out for offers, and attend when I can. Still excited for the up-coming season after all is said and done!
Thank you for your email and I apologise for the delay in my reply, I have just returned from holiday.
The ticket pricing for this coming season were introduced to bring it into line with season ticket prices as match day prices shouldn’t be cheaper than a season ticket. Which I believe last season, 4 weeks in advanced were cheaper.
There will be many offers throughout the season on ticket prices and family schemes so hopefully these will appeal to you.
Just so you are aware, we also offer our season tickets on a pay monthly plan which is spread over 10 months if this is something that would interest you.
Many Thanks
Greg Douglas

Poor reply, he didn't address your challenge to the club statement that prices would be cheaper than last year and they're not, seemed to just ignore this point.......

Has anyone asked Greg/the club about the prices for an additional U/11 or additional 12-16 year old?

Has anyone asked Greg/the club about the prices for an additional U/11 or additional 12-16 year old? My reply from Greg was relatively obtuse not really addressing my question regading additional Juniors The gentleman I spoke to in the ticket office when I bought my Killie Friendly tickets said there was a still discount for additional Juniors - so the large increase I alluded to above may not be the case - to get a definitive answer I shall have to wait until I purchase tickets for the home match against Tranmere. I noticed that the pricing in the Killie Programme did not clarify additional Junior prices Whilst appreciating getting the squad sorted is priority - pricing is important to us, the paying fans. Nothing has appeared in writing yet!!

i commend the club for listening and reducing prices. what is needed now from Matt Williams is maximising every drop of income from every inch of the grounds to keep the club a going concern. the stadium and grounds should be used all year round.
the catering needs looking at, and every spare bit of land should be used for paid car parking. pop concerts, open air markets etc. MW needs to set up an events suggestions committee to suggest fund raising to support our gate income. MM's new squad will not have been cheap on Rolands Chubb clasped wallet. a couple of cup runs will be useful with tv coverage.
in fact AJ's cup runneth over!, my nearly new Toshiba is making up for 4 years lack of use.!
Floreat Salopia!
