Time to vote yes!
So today I voted for change. I voted for our football club to change its badge.
In the early nineties, I was part of the editorial team of the Shrewsbury Town independent fanzine ‘A Large Scotch’. As well as raising the issue of fans being heard, we wanted more than anything to see the Loggerheads badge and Blue and Amber stripped shirts returned.
We campaigned. We did a survey. 80% of those polled stated they wanted Loggerheads back. Eventually in 1992, the Loggerheads returned (as did Blue and Amber).
I was very proud to part of that campaign. Very proud of fans having a voice and it being heard. Fast forward to 2007. A meeting at the old Gay Meadow. The Chairman and the ‘well to do of football supporters groups’ in attendance. A new shirt and a new badge.
The rationale seemed fair enough. The badge actually looked, nice. Clean, crisp, modern. As I said at the time, if we have to change the badge, let’s do it once. Let’s do it right.
But we missed a trick. We should have been more challenging. Why weren’t the fans given more of a say? So the badge came out, and off we went. But there was a nagging doubt. Some of us get it sooner rather than later (I was the later). As much as the badge looked good etc., it wasn’t our badge was it.
Then ‘Clippy’ was exposed, the rationale for having a badge that could be copyrighted exposed as not being that easy to enforce, and so on.
Someone once said it wouldn’t matter if they had a badge of ‘Mary Poppins’ on the shirt, they would still support Salop.
Whilst I understand the sentiment, it misses the point. The whole reason football clubs were set up was to represent the area they came from. It is why football clubs are called ‘Shrewsbury Town’ and not ‘Team 1’. With that link to their local community, comes civic pride. And hence why the borough or county coat arms became the club badges of football clubs all over the world.
Football badges on club shirts are still a pretty modern phenomenon. In the early days of football, they were very adhoc. It wasn’t really until the 60’s that they started becoming widespread. And even then the badges on the shirt could be very different to the official club crest (think of us in the 60’s). Mainly due to difficulties of producing them on football shirts.
But without doubt there is nothing better than supporting your team with club colours you associate with, with the badge of your town, and with players you identify with.
So today I voted for change. To start that journey. You have until the end of August. Have you voice heard. Vote yes! I did!

Not far off 400 responses on just the online survey in less than a week. With the paper copies to all ST holders, the match day survey and email we should get a healthy number of fans to base any decision on.
Quite a few people chancing it and not putting any details which mean they can be tracked at all so those votes have to be removed. probs only happend 3/4 times though thus far.
All in all a good start.
Keep the votes coming guys. #Haveyoursay

Is the supporters number a five digit one that's in brackets next to your name on the store website??

Is how you Voted known? Are Voters voting against the way you wish being put off sending you their details? Does voting no automatically count as a vote for the Loggerheads?
I don't mind registering and Voting but people knowing which way and having my details is another thing.

Visibility of who voted for what runs to about 3/4 people one of which is myself as I sorted survey monkey. Whits can see it too, couple others from SP, couple more from club just to check no one is adding rouge votes. If you are voting you need a supporters number and thus the club already have your details. To be honest I can't see why anyone would be put off, it's been fair and totally open, the only reason any details are needed was at the request of the club to prove it was town fans voting legitimately. Still getting a healthy amount of votes each day in this phase of emails and online. Will keep getting bigger as we gat paper copies and then the match day survey.

I don't mind registering and Voting but people knowing which way and having my details is another thing. No problem. Only a democratic Egyptian judge will know your details. If you want to vote for the comedy clipart lion, you will be required to go to Cairo to formally vote. If you wish cast your vote this way, I am quite prepared to come and act as your defence lawyer, arguing your case for insanity, and pleading hideous corpus.

Does voting no automatically count as a vote for the Loggerheads? Absolutely not. A VOTE YES is what we're hoping for from Shrewsbury Town fans. The question fans have been asked is whether or not they'd like to see the current corporate logo (a standalone, irrelevant, clip art lion) removed as our club's badge. To VOTE YES is to plump for history, heritage, identity, pride, financial return, longevity, a sense of belonging, 1886, Shrewsbury Town Football Club, community and passion. To vote no is to be happy with what we've got currently; a random commercial logo masquerading as a football club's badge. We urge all Salop fans to VOTE YES before September.

I got mixed up with Yes and No.I meant does a Yes Vote automatically mean a Vote for Loggerheads? Is their a Vote for a change but not back to the old style Loggerheads? Do People have a choice of neither the current badge or Loggerheads?
Don't all purchasers of Tickets get a Member Number including away supporters including fans of Wrexham,Hereford and Port Vale? If the Loggerheads vote wins then will another vote occur where designs are put forward? And who will be responsible for what gets put forward the Club or B&A? Will Fans send there ideas in or will Professional designers be asked to submit choices?

The impression I have been given (although there are many on here who will know better than me) is that if there is a majority who vote to change, then there will be consultations over the design of the new badge with fans.

Will Fans send there ideas in or will Professional designers be asked to submit choices? A Yes vote means you would like to change the badge from its current form (no mention of return of the loggerheads) There will be further consultation with the fans by the club and supporters parliament if a "yes" vote is achieved as a majority. The form and scope of this is yet to be established. They do not have a choice of neither the current badge or loggerheads this is just a vote to understand if a new badge is wanted. No away fans are voting in this, I have been monitoring the vote online and this is not an issue. Yes another vote will occur but the choices, options and breath of this second vote (if a majority yes is established) has yet to be agreed and will require further consultation with the fans. Who is responsible is again not quite 100% established. Its fair to say both the SP and STFC are working closely together and that after the issues with the last badge clear and regular consultation with the fan base as a whole will be required, and is vital. Unknown, but in the initial stages, both fans and pros have sent in ideas to the SP. Hope that gives as little more background. Cheers

As another update, the online vote is passed the 500 mark over the weekend, but the responses have fallen to 5-6 a day.
If you know people who have still not had their vote, and need to, still plenty of time.

550 up now... a slow creep creep up of votes now, but still plenty of time to have your say.
Next focus is getting paper vote forms ready for the season tickets and to be handed out.
Onwards and upwards.

600 Up now on the online vote.
Voting slips being delivered to the club today.
I think the club will be doing an email shot in August, will check that. BBLH will be emailing all the people who signed the initial petition as well I believe. Think we we could hit 1000 on the Survey Monkey survay now which would be amazing

Vote yes from Lord Ha Ha
Maybe this is the start of me beginning to re-love the club who in the recent past have tried to disappear some corporate ar&ehole epitimised by that clip art piece of corporate vandalism known as , and here's the funny thing, a creditable dignified club badge.
OUT WITH CLIPPY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Any idea on how many people have voted yet? Does anyone know if there is a minimum amount of votes required for the club to take any action or not? I got mine and the old man's votes in ages ago (both YES). Just hoping that most of the 5,000 who made it to the Emirates for a midweek match and the 20,000 for the play off finals will have supporter numbers and prepared to make their voices heard when it matters.
