Just been reading an article on web pr. About how Fulham players are phoning fans who have renewed season tickets for next year, to thank them, a great PR stunt that hasn't cost a penny! How come we don't think of ideas like that? Surely it would bring the club and fans closer. On the other hand how many of the players who could phone up would be here next year? In an age when many fans feel alienated by the club I thought this was a great initiative by one of the more friendly premier league clubs

Wouldn't work with me. These days suspect any call from someone I don't know is a potential scam and just put the phone down.

Appreciate Fulham are also in trouble but I think I'd rather our lads focus on football at the minute, put all their effort towards the two games this weekend. But it is a nice gesture, maybe something the clubs should consider in the future...when they might not get laughed at...

It would only have a chance of working if we thought the players we're going to be around next season. In town's casee we'd probably have loanees ringing us up. & the thought of Dave Winfield ringing might persuade some people to hand in their season ticket

This plan wouldn't work for us.
We don't know half the players on our books from one week to the next.

How about a meet and greet for those who have bought season tickets at the Greenhous facilities around the time the retained list is announced after season end? Will either be a huge celebration or a chance to look forward and draw a line under this season with available players/management who are going to be part of next season. Might even send fans and players off on their holidays in a positive mood. Would also sell some drinks/merchandise and bring in some revenue.

There is the open day which serves a similar kind of purpose.

There is the open day which serves a similar kind of purpose. Absolutely, a good day out it is too, but it's after the holidays and I just felt that something specifically for season ticket holders, before everyone goes away on hols, might make them feel valued, send everyone away a little more positive and bring in additional revenue.

How are we supposed to keep our shoestring budget intact with pointless extra costs such as this? Ludicrous. We'd be much better off spending the money on next seasons loanees.

If the players have a contract mobile phone then get them to use a few of their "free" minutes, cost = zero. Alternatively, do we have a calls included package on the GM phone lines, cost = zero. Or, season ticket holders get a call from players "It's a Shrewsbury town footballer on the line for you, will you accept the charges?". Er, no, that option might not work....

Well I actually heard from a (fairly) reliable source that there is not a calls included package in operation at the GM in order to keep costs low. Anyway as to asking the players to call fans..I'd prefer them to be spending their time on the training pitch to be honest, they need all the extra time on there they can get right now.

Don't think the idea would suit us, but not sure if more time on the training pitch is good either - that's where most of our injuries seem to occur. At some, more downmarket club's, training grounds players/captains can even get beaten up!

Idea. Why don't the players concentrate on their training etc. and get their wives/girlfriends (wags) to phone on their behalf. Just a friendly chat, like they do on the Adult Channels on t.v. late at night, lying on a fur -lined bed, with nothing on but a very skimpy pair of pant... sorry got to go.

Wouldn't work. I haven't heard any fans renewing their tickets for next season.
