That video should come with a health warning. Shrewsbury actually scoring goals....I almost fainted with shock.

I've met Roland on several occasions within the context of supporters meetings, but only ever been 'invited for a coffee' by Rob Bickerton, which I declined.

last october as many oy you know i paid a 2 hour visit to the 3 fishes, and many claimed to know him well. one claimed to knew graham and reckoned it was his last season as it was a long journey from herefordshire. i later found out graham had a home in bicton? GT rented a house in Bicton whilst he was the gaffer here (second time around), but his family home has always remained in Herefordshire.

I've met the chairman a few times. He's a very, very Proud Salopian, both in terms of his background growing up in the town, and perhaps most importantly his love of the football club. I'm sure he has traits that others would find difficult, but there is no one that is not applicable too. Glad he's involved in our football club.

ok ill bite, No need for the chav comment! have you been in block 19? I doubt it. just because we get behind the team and show passion means we are chavs? uncalled for imo. 'Chavs' isn't the correct word, I'd say 'gimps' would be more suitable. P.S. FAO Roland, everyone else seems to have had a coffee invite..where's mine!? Roland OUT!

I've met RW a couple of times in the Directors box at Port Vale...
Came across as a very nice guy, passionate about STFC and very obvioulsy proud to be our chairman.
Like Ant said earlier...i'm glad he is part of our club.

Met Roland just to say "hello" at away matches. Is he stubborn? Yes. Does he like his own way? Yes. Does he lose his temper? Yes. Seen it. Does he live in an ivory tower? Yes. Would I go for coffee, if commanded? invited? No. What's the point? We wouldn't agree on much. Except our joint love for STFC. Whatever else, he's a fan, same as me. Good thread this, particularly the video. But it seems to me that opinions on RW fall into two categories; Those who have actually met him - consensus largely that "he seems a decent fella" Those who haven't met him - consensus largely that "he is arrogant, opinionated, looks down on the common man etc" JT is up there with my favourite posters but the quote above is a classic - only said "hello" but from that small interaction can deduce a man's whole character! Psychic JT.... OK - I'll give it a go. I deduce that JT is tall, handsome, slim, with a cute little button nose. How am I doing? It seems that Roland's character is "received wisdom" on B&A. Pretty much like "none of the players like Jackson" - remember that one? I haven't met RW so he could be Satan for all I know. But that's the point - like almost everyone on here, I don't know. On the other hand why let a bit of logic get in the way of good old fashioned B&A fish-wifery...

Quite a number of the regular trouble makers off here have been invited into the boardroom for a "coffee and a chat" over the years. That usually brings them to heel I was offered one of these by Bickerton after he apparently exception to my researching of the Macclesfield Express in order to find out information as to his time as a Macclesfield director.
I declined.

You're wrong about me as well. None of us are perfect. I've got plenty of faults. I'm very stubborn, I bear grudges to the extreme and can appear arrogant, so I'm informed. The writing on my van gives the last part away.

I was once invited in for coffee with Andrew Burman. I turned up as well. When I left, I thought, "What the hell was all that about?", and vowed not to do it again. I was also invited for coffee with Rob Bickerton, twice. The once was when I posted on here that when Roland steps down, I hope he sells to a local business person.
No wonder the club's losing money, we're spending it all on ****ing coffee.

My experience of RW is that he's taken the football club I support to League One via the most tortuous route possible. And having finally reached that promised land, it looks like we'll be staying than Fred Davies' Gay Meadow based side of '94.
We've moved to a soulless stadium on the outskirts of town, yet the promise of making money '365 days a year' has failed to materialise. We seem no more able to compete at this level than we were 20 years ago. We've got a club shop barely any bigger than the GM portakabin, and couldn't even stock it with replica kits for the start of the season. We've sold a young England goalkeeper but failed to get a sell on clause. We've been lumbered with a meaningless new badge most of us don't want. We've employed a disastrous approach to contracts and loan signings. And Then we repeated it.
Should I take it personally?

Have been acquainted with Roland in the distant past. A good honest bloke,an astute business man, a likeable man who certainly will have the best interests of the club at heart. As a leader he has to make decisions which some may disagree with but they will have been made with due consideration and good intentions. Personally I believe he's done a very good job over the years, you won't please everyone as Chairman of a lower league club who's supporters have challenging but attainable ambitions.

thank you shizo, so the bloke was right in the 3 fishes when he said gt had to travel to herefordshire. i would love to see graham back in football once he has had a good rest.
as for a soulless stadium, we have not had too many good results recently. we should all be bloody proud to have a brand new stadium. once town start putting in performances to be proud off and the stadium is used more and a couple of chippy vans outside, the soul will return. it is you and i who deliver atmosphere, good play and chipfat does help. ' not a word against our illustrious chairman, save for =ROLAND CHANGE THAT RUDDY AWFUL BADGE, TOWN'S 7 YRARS OF BAD LUCK. NOW WILL YOU BE TOLD!
and Roland it's the case of outer mongolian shiraz for the alex directors. you push the boat er coracle out for them. they are not keen on 5-0 reverses!

Met him at the one and only AGM held in the evening (I brought some shares in the Jake King era and used to get an invite - haven't had one years though now). Have to say that I wasn't over impressed with the fact he wanted to rush it through because Man U were on the television that night and he did.
Also have the reason that he does not want to talk to the fans. I have been at Superblue meetings in the stadium and he too has been there but not come in to see us. I know we must all have our views but like others I am just so unimpressed with his PR. This does not mean that I am not eternally grateful for all he has done. I just feel that time has moved on and so have fan's expectations - a few more coffee mornings perhaps for the fans!

I was planning another adventure north to watch the mighty Cowden. Best to make sure my passport is in order, I couldn't stand the humiliation of the headlines in The South Shropshire Bugle, "Short, fat, ugly, bald, big nosed Shropshire asylum seeker , handed over to customs in Berwick".
Oh, the shame of it. Fancy me being described as short. Cowden are known as 'The Blue Brazil' up here. Their stadium a home to stock car racing and fitba. Quite a place to visit BTW.

Drop in, maybe, but that doesn't make the view any less credible. Weened on the Station End, grew up on the Riverside and now maturing in a seat in the West Stand. About 44 years of moreorless continuous support so I may have a view. Whilst things could be better now I do agree, things could also be a lot worse. At a year younger than you you're basically right. Look at some of the opposition we used to face now in non-league football.

i would be happy for uncle roland to smell the coffee, never mind the percolater! unlikely an old eccentric from devon would be allowed any where near the owd lad's coffee rooms or the thermos in the boot of the Bentley.

I have to say Roland was an absolute star towards me quite a few years ago. I went to an open day at the old ground and parked my car by the big blue gates at the Wakeman End, a ginger haired steward told me in no uncertain terms I couldn't park there and to go down to the Station End. I explained that I needed to get my sons wheelchair out of the car as the Station End was not really user friendly, but he wouldn't except my explanation and shift it. At this point I was all for sodding off back home and very disgruntled, just as I was getting into my car Roland turned up so I explained my displeasure. Roland very kindly told me to leave the car there and basically sod the steward and have nice afternoon. I know there are some on here who thinks he's against the fans, but that alone suggests he is a very ammicable falla.
