This thread is part inspired by Fred in his Shed chat with his fairly positive chat with the Chairman this week and reports of a Tranmere Director pressing the flesh of the great Salop unwashed.
Whilst I cannot see RW popping into the Brooklands pre-match or keeping it real by watching a match with those chavs in Block 19, has anyone had their own experiences with our chairman which had left either a positive or negative effect?
Is he the ego-driven, control freak/monster that is often portrayed here? Or have we somehow got the wrong end of the stick?
I personally have never met Roland but to get the ball rolling I can recall a being ejected from the match at Accrington in December 2007. Dave Hibbert headed us in front and as we dashed down the terracing to celebrate with the players, a small exit gate burst open and fans and players alike landed in a heap on the pitch. Before I knew it, Bizzy and myself were being frog-marched off the pitch and eventually ejected by some very apologetic stewards who were 'Just following orders'...
A few days later I was contacted by someone from the club via B&A who told me that Roland was not best pleased with what had happened and wanted to somehow 'make it up' to me for being ejected and missing much of the 2nd half. I thanked him for his kind gesture but wasn't too fussed with taking up the offer as it was just one of these things that happen at a football match....

ok ill bite,
No need for the chav comment! have you been in block 19? I doubt it. just because we get behind the team and show passion means we are chavs? uncalled for imo.

Not met RW, best experience I had was meeting Turner outside Worcester at a friendly match. We had a great chuckle and I asked if he was happy with the team or whether he wanted more signings. He said he was happy with the side the way it was at the time which strikes me as odd as they said they were always wanting another striker, oh well, he was a top chap we had a good chuckle.

Criticising the fans now are we Mark? Grow up, name calling won't do. We all support the club. Apparently you think everything is perfect, but there is no need for that in the slightest. I am usually in block 18 myself but if it wasn't for block 19 members then the meadow would be a dull atmosphere at the best of times. Keep it going lads.

Cant say Ive ever had the pleasure of a conversation with the man, heard lots of stories from family and friends over the years, at the risk of getting anyone into trouble I wont go into those but they are of a similar nature that he's a very strong stubborn character. The story that always made me laugh was that as a local footballer he was a winger and he used to keep a comb down his sock and would use it after flying down the wing and his hair getting messy. God knows if there's any truth in it but a good story and fits in with the arrogant reputation he has
Interesting about the cant imagine him popping into the Brooklands for a drink, I know he does have the reputation on looking down on the common man but Im led to believe that around christmas time he regularly pops in for a drink at somewhere many people on this board look down their noses at.

I met him during the summer of our ill fated relegation season and he spent a good hour talking to me about things, including signings that Quinn had lined up. He was a genuinely nice chap, to me at least, who was devastated that that had happened on his watch.

i have met Roland but knew him not. i may have mentioned before on one of my rare visits to salop, it was the friday afternoon before town v stockport about 3 or 4 years ago when this kind gentleman held the shop door for me, waved to the staff and got into a bentley and drove off. i then realised who he was. a kind but a sharp businessman, certainly. i wish now i had recognised the owd lad, i am sure he is approachable. he might have pushed a glass of albanian merlot my way!

Quite a number of the regular trouble makers off here have been invited into the boardroom for a "coffee and a chat" over the years. That usually brings them to heel

Mind you, if Mark had said that, there's more than a hint of truth in it.
Met Roland just to say "hello" at away matches. Is he stubborn? Yes. Does he like his own way? Yes. Does he lose his temper? Yes. Seen it. Does he live in an ivory tower? Yes. Would I go for coffee, if commanded? invited?
No. What's the point? We wouldn't agree on much. Except our joint love for STFC. Whatever else, he's a fan, same as me.

Any road up, I'd rather have money squandered on coffee spent on signing a quality striker.
Come on, smell the coffee!!! Oh, you can't can you.
I can't smell a quality striker either.

I was at the match. A steward went through a gate and left it unlocked when he came back through. When the Town fans came forward to the front after the goal, the gate came open, and bizzy fell over a sheet which was left by the side of the pitch. I didn't realize that chav Mark was the other. Not their fault. I heard they'd been let back in before the end of the game.

We can look forward to seeing that again next season. I might craftily unlock the gate, then as bizzy surges forward and falls with Mark following him, I'll pinch Mark's Scottish passport from his pocket, and he'll be held in an Accrington cell, awaiting deportation.

I was thinking that the pipes would compliment Alex's Drum superbly for the PNE/Peterboro games. Bear in mind I cannot play a note so you guys are in for treat.

Hilarious really, some elements of truth, some myth and some complete nonsense. He is not one to seek publicity and the PR could be improved, however his passion for the club and the town are completely genuine. I guess that if he was to venture over to the dark side (the West Stand), he could sit with his niece in block 15, two nephews in block 17, or if he was feeling really brave another nephew in block 19. Supporters should be careful about what they wish for, the halcyon days at the old Gay Meadow ? The reality is that when Roland took over the club was in a complete mess and the way in which the club was operating was laughable. Now that is truth.

I was planning another adventure north to watch the mighty Cowden. Best to make sure my passport is in order, I couldn't stand the humiliation of the headlines in The South Shropshire Bugle, "Short, fat, ugly, bald, big nosed Shropshire asylum seeker , handed over to customs in Berwick".
Oh, the shame of it. Fancy me being described as short.

I think I've given Roland some credit for his leadership in the past. You think it's running well now? Is this what we were promised when we moved? Are we moving forward?
No it's not laughable, it's very serious. In fact, as a club, we're stagnating.

Drop in, maybe, but that doesn't make the view any less credible. Weened on the Station End, grew up on the Riverside and now maturing in a seat in the West Stand. About 44 years of moreorless continuous support so I may have a view. Whilst things could be better now I do agree, things could also be a lot worse.

funniest bit was watching them watch from the building site to the side until they opened the exit gates!! Yep and the chants of 'Bizzy, Bizzy give us wave'!! Some great footage of the celebrations in this video (starts at around 1:43) A really bizarre game which took place on a freezing cold Saturday just before Christmas, with an disgustingly poor Town performance transformed by two goals about a minute apart from each other (the Ben Davies strike just before the Hibbert winner is worth a look.) If memory serves, we also had the ball in the net for a third time shortly afterwards, but it was disallowed. The Town fans having to communicate that to Bizzy, who was charging around the hillside in celebration at the time, was a sight to behold.
