Hillsborough - Where were you when you heard?
I was at the meadow, can't remember who we were playing or what the score was.
I remember an announcement over the tannoy about 15 mins into the game that the match had been abandoned. Immediately thought it was crowd trouble. Wasn't until we got back to the car after the game that we heard what exactly had happened.

It was Oxford at GM and ended 2-2. Pretty sure I was there that day too

At The Meadow, lovely sunny day. The crowd annoncenment on the day gave no indication of what had occurred and almost everyone suspected crowd trouble/disorder as the cause. Not until early evening did the full extent become apparent

On this day 102 years ago 1,517 died during the sinking of Titanic.
Not a good day in history.

Watched it unfold on Grandstand on TV, in disbelief.
Next day I was driving on a slip road joining the M4 and passed a cattle truck. I looked across at the animals inside and found myself in tears. I was on my way to join a packed ground watching Widnes play Wigan in a rugby league championship decider and the minute's silence before that game was probably the most moving one I've experienced. I think quite a few in that crowd had been at Hillsborough.

Not until early evening did the full extent become apparent Its funny the little irrelevant things you remember from that day, possibly in the way I recall my parents always telling me that they knew exactly what they were doing the moment JFK was shot. I was standing on the Wakeman terrace with a friend, it was a lovely sunny day, I remember we were playing Oxford, that it was a great open game and that me and my mate climbed up on the fencing when we scored which still stood around the G.M in those days although not as high as in the away end. Then I remember the announcement at half time...the rest is a blur. Although my memory is a little hazy ref the exact date, I also think Town played away at Sheff Weds in the Littlewoods cup earlier that season, it was a mid week match and the 250 or so away fans stood on the Leppings lane terrace, where the Liverpool fans would be some months later. Although obviously we had no idea of what would come to pass, looking back it certainly made me feel uneasy having stood where only a few months later so many men, women and children would lose their lives for simply attending a football match RIP to the 96.

Truly moving tribute at Anfield. Roberto and Rodgers both making excellent speeches.
For all the bad press that football clubs, fans and players receive, it is moving to see so much unity and sympathy for a truly awful disaster. It is a credit to Liverpool football club for doing this every year.

At my brother-in-law's wedding, sitting in a car listening to the radio for the half-time scores (they said it would never last but they are currently in Hong Kong for their anniversary).

Yes also at GM that day. Remember the announcement being repeated as we left the ground and although details were sketchy everyone seemed very quiet, sensing that something very serious had happened.
From watching my first matches (including some big ones) as a boy in the 70s, I remember being caught up in a few crushes both in and outside grounds. It was such a frightening and helpless situation and I can only imagine the horror that many went through that afternoon at Hillsborough. RIP

i watched the unfolding drama on grandstand, this afternoon i was moved to tears as i watched a very emotional 25 year remembrance event. loved the speeches, especially evertonian andy burnhammp who has grown in my estimation. i was quite taken aback when he praised theresa may home secretary for her part in getting justice. the afternoon was complete with gerry marsdens rendition of you'll never walk again. i first heard him sing that about 51 years ago.
both hillsborough and munich were landmarks in my life.

On this day 102 years ago 1,517 died during the sinking of Titanic. Not a good day in history. Abraham Lincoln, Tommy Cooper, Arthur Lowe and Kenneth Williams all died on 15th April too. Not one of histories great dates Was also at the Meadow when the disaster happened. Back then there wasn't much way of finding out what was happening at games so think most people were unaware of what had happened First I knew was going home on the bus and the driver - who I regularly chatted to and was a big Liverpool fan - told me what happened. He had friends there and didn't know if they were involved

I seem to remember being at a big FA trophy game at Telford on the day, and hearing it on the radio on the way back.
A family on wenlock road lost a relative and had people there so it was very close. It's all a bit sketchy as I was at junior school.
My best friend at uni is from Anfield and I remember some of his stories, kids from the schools losing parents and all sorts. Show him a copy of the Sun and he foams at the mouth.

I was at the other semi final Everton v Norwich with some Evertonian friends. News started to filter through via people with radios. At first, people thought it was Liverpool fans kicking off but it wasn't long before news of the first casualties filtered through. I distinctly remember the walk away from Villa Park -Everton had won but it was quiet like nothing I've experienced before or since. We got back to our car and listened to the radio pretty much in silence all the way back to London. I remember seeing some of the footage later that evening and being exceptionally angry that the police just appeared to be watching.
