Hi All Right we're up and running with the Alf Wood fundraiser, see the Virgin Giving page below, now get giving! Hope you're all happy with this being in blue and amber's name! uk.virginmoneygiving.com/alfwoodthanks Please publicise this anyway you can (can this be pinned?), if you need some blurb this is what i've written: In March of this year it was publically revealed by his family that Shrewsbury Town legend Alf Wood is suffering from dementia. Alf also played for Man City, Millwall, Hull City, Middlesborough, Walsall and Stafford Rangers making 488 professional appearances and scoring 117 goals.
As a show of thanks to Alf for the great footballing moments he gave to so many and in recognition of the amazing efforts of those caring for dementia suffers we are trying to raise £488 for Dementia UK - a pound for every game he played. We urge fans of all of Alf's former clubs (and anyone else!) to dig deep for a great cause.

All the best Alf!Cheers Blue and amber (Shrewsbury fans)

Also you have typed "it was" twice in the first sentence, not being picky just thought I would point it out.

Great work Monty Could someone tweet details to the Sloppy Star, Birmingham Mail, Express & Star, GazetteLive (Middlesbrough), Hull Dailymail and other papers local to Alf's former clubs (sorry, I'm not on Twitter)? Reckon the likes of Stuart Dunn will also retweat this plus might be worth getting a few of the current squad to publicise this is they will. Up to £45 so far, let's really get this flying before kick off on Saturday. Thanks! uk.virginmoneygiving.com/alfwoodthanks

All the best Alf!Cheers Blue and amber (Shrewsbury fans) Hi all I just want to say thank you for all your kind thoughts and wishes and raising awareness and money for Dementia UK, which needs so much support. Alf would be overwhelmed with the support you have shown towards him, and it means so much to me and the family that your thoughts are with us. Thank you again! Joan

Ian - any chance of STFC getting on the case and putting something on the website and twitter before the game on Saturday? I see Boro have already tweeted. Might be worth tweeting Millwall fan Danny Baker - can someone help with that? We've just topped the £150 mark - thanks to all who have donated so far

Great to see this support for a true Salop Legend... One of the best One suggestion though shouldn't we raise the bar to £10 per appearance ?

Well done for setting this up. Alf was a legend in our house - to put it mildly! I later found out that I'd known Alf's brother for donkey's years in a completely different context before we made the connection, I couldn't have been more shocked had someone chucked a bucket of ice cubes down my back. Alf certainly made football exciting, I think anyone who remembers will be glad to give something back.

I'm good for £20.00 African, but I don't do any online stuff any more. I'll gladly meet up with you, or post a cheque if you send me a PM with the details.
Regards,
J.T.

Thanks to all who have donated so far, after one day we're about halfway there, £240 and counting (plus £20 off line).
Let's keep the momentum up - please promote this however you can.
PM me if you can't pay online for any reason and we can sort something out.

Typical of Joan to say thank you she has always been a real brick in their family.
Why don't the Club arrange a pre-season game with Hull, Middlesbrough, Millwall or even Walsall with all the proceeds going to the cause. Many players have suffered with this problem in later life, currently Jimmy McLaughlin and not that long ago Malcolm Musgrove were hit by the vagaries of the disease.
Malcolm like Cliff Lloyd was a former PFA Chairman but neither received assistance from Graham Taylor - at least that is what Jean Musgrave told me -scandalous.

I like this - a phase two of the Alf masterplan? Something for Fans' Parliament agenda? Realistically (and sadly) Walsall will be a policing cost issue, but Stafford Rangers away would be very realistic for all concerned or possibly Hull or 'Boro at home.

I understand that even friendlies cost money to stage, but a £1.00 per person donation to the fund would be very well received I'm sure.

Two things, with regard to a pre-seasdon match, I said proceeds of the game, so expenses could be deducted, and secondly it is responses like this to real problems which make me proud to be a Salop fan.
