I really can't believe this topic. The team is struggling and all some people seem interested in is sticking a b***dy statue outside the ground. I'm sure the past golden greats of this club would prefer to see a winning team. I'm sure they would. However , theres still room for a bit of nostalgia , takes the mind off the current situation on the field and makes us all feel good about the club and its history. We may stay up , we may be relegated but , hopefully , we will still have a smashing club with a history to be proud of. Nothing wrong in celebrating our existence in a way that all supporters can take pride in . Lets make sure the plinth incorporates the wonderful Loggerheads - also part of our proud history.

There is far more to a football club than a "winning team". Tradition, heritage and identity are equally important. Go play on the motorway.

Don't quite get this idea that by focusing on some off field issues fans thoughts are distracted from what's happening on the pitch? To be frank aside from cheering to team on every Saturday there is bugger all the fans can do to influence the team on the pitch. What they can do is demonstrate their support for the club through off field stuff, be they supporters clubs, developing statues or defining the clubs identity Having fans willing to put their own time and effort into such things should be seen as a massive plus for the club not something to bleat about.

To answer the original questions as well: If not the coracle man - I would love to see 'The holy trinity' built in front of the main stand entrance (around where Roland parks his Roller) It would consist of Rowley (club legend), GT (greatest manager) & Alf Wood (largely accepted to the best player the club has ever had). Sorry , but the greatest player the club has ever had was Peter Broadbent . Brilliant. Apologies I did mean broadbent, I hang my head in shame. Although I believe alf wasn't too shabby either!

Broadbent was a " footballer " wonderful to watch , a real fans favourite. When Alf came to us from , I think Man City , he was a Centre Half . At first he was dreadful and many fans thought what on earth are we doing with this clown. He was converted to play as a forward and then the love affair between the fans and Alf took off. Would'nt say he was a "footballer" in the Broadbent mode , but there again I couldn't see Peter put himself about in the box like Alf. He scored some wonderful goals did Alf and must have been an absolute friggin nightmare to play against. I think Alf went to Millwall playing in the same side as Millwalls legend Harry Cripps. I feel privileged to have seen Peter and Alf play for Shrewsbury Town.

My vote would go for a bust of that ginger steward to recognise the unsung heroes at salop.
If they did it in bronze it would be quite a realistic portrayal as well.

If that steward sees this post you could be in trouble for such a sexist remark in this now forbidden, cctv, written forum, big brother, 1984+28 years world we live in!

I do feel strongly we could get some nice former legend player decor though on the outside of the ground made out of that material Salop Leisure have to sponsor the south stand. They could be put up over those bland metal sheets, would look great a huge image of Rowley striking a ball or Grant Holt winning a header. I'm sure it wouldn't cost that much either and would look great.

By the way, my choice would be Rowley, Turner and Kelly, and i also have seen Broadbent play in a Town shirt but his tenure with us was only of a short duration, his best days being in a gold shirt! DOH.

What I like about you is that you do like to state the blindingly obvious. Broadbent played 452 times for Wolves over the period 1951-65. He played 69 times for Town from 1965-66.
Tony Kelly played from 1989-91 for Town making 101 appearances before moving on to Bolton.
You haven't seen Broadbent play, you have seen pictures of him in a Town shirt probably from your fine collection of football books - 3 in all at my last count and your hoping for the Match Annual this christmas to complete your fine collection.
Goods struth you are a numpty . Look in your books and see if you can spot Tony Kelly in a Town shirt, you can then post that you have seen him play for the Town. Stop making things up , you lying t**t. I shall be here to help you because , as I know only too well you and the truth are strangers . p.s stop putting DOH after every bloody post - its childish . A man of your age , nearing 63 and you finish posts with DOH. For Gods sake get a grip and grow up , you ageing lickspittle . Jesus Christ how many more times do I have to point out your shortcomings -DOH( have that one for free).

I have nothing original to add, my half dozen names of STFC greats would be the same as most on here, wether it be Statues/Busts/ or the pictures Emirates style of former players forming a "Wall". Another option might be to think about the main approach into the STFC car park off Otley Rd , its just like any entrance into an out of town retail park or new stadium, and maybe some kind of STFC Gate could be funded, or named player gate etc. I would like "This is ...... Meadow" but the name changes every couple of years.

Jonah, thanks for your support. It's a relief to know there are fans out there who actually appreciate the whole point of being in any competition.... to win! Merely taking part is for losers, are you listening KL8! In the words of the immortal Bill Shankley 'If you are first you are first. If you are second you are nothing.' At present we are nowhere!

Care to explain how having a statue at the ground is going to cause the team to lose games?

Right, and since Town (and about 85 other clubs) have absolutely no chance of ever winning the Prem or the Champions League then we might just as well jack it in. Of course there is more to it than just winning, some quote from Bill Shankley means nothing.

Agree with Gareths post.
Provided it was launched in the correct way, had the backing of the club (I mean not just platitudes) I don't see why a number of local, but well known businesses wouldn't get on board.
If it was for someone like Arthur, I don't see why the FA/League also might not get involved-after all he is in their history books.
Great thinking GP.

so no one wants a statue of roland then, the man who built our new stadium, the man who rescued the shrews from bancrupcy, the man who is about to restore the loggerheads! ok a statue of lenny the lion may have to suffice!

I think having the main stand named after him is more appropriate. Remind me - who took the loggerheads away in the first place?

We should have a statue of the Loggerheads at the ground.
Something like the sphinx in tryptych.

No need for one of Luke now that we have the real thing again. If he fails, then we could have him stuffed and mounted and save a bob or two.
