I can't see why Jamo is obliged to give his version of events on here. Clearly he feels that the gentleman in question has been harshly treated, and it seems like he may be intending to make an official complaint about the incident. If that is the case, then posting something on an internet forum which could weaken this complaint would be daft.
Having not been at the game myself I've no idea what happened, but much of this thread comes across as B & A at its worst; sniping, point-scoring and conjecture from many who were in are in no position to do any of the above.

YAWN! & you witnessed the incident sat where? Sorry to interject, but not really sure how you can 'yawn' at another poster on this messageboard. This coming from perhaps one of the biggest simpletons on B&A, constantly spamming the board with links to BBC News and starting hysterical threads about racism. Your 13-year-old style avatar also leaves a lot to be desired. Ohh resorting to personal attacks Spamming the board LOL whatever, BBC a spam website interesting point of view? Hysterical threads about racism, where? As for my Avatar take it up with the Mods if it offends you?

led to believe the 'oxford' incident was him taking the law into his own hands and trying to punch a fan who went on the pitch Superb. So outraged was he by idiots invading the pitch, he decided to invade the pitch as well to teach the aforementioned idiots a lesson?

Well for what its worth this is how I saw it from the concourse in the South Stand. A fat bloke who may or may not have ridden a bicycle at some point in his life may or may not have called the armed Police Officer present a pleb. The Police Officer who is a gentle type realized he has a reputation of unfairness and lying to uphold so got his mates involved for a scuffle jumped on the fat bloke and rolled him around the back. The boy wonder Jamo who was picking his nose at the time and looking the other way may or may not be a close friend of the accused thus the accused is innocent and whatever he may or may not of done is irrelevant. Further to that the Policeman being a figure of authority is indeed the anti - Christ (or Allah). Seriously its better than Plebgate..keep it up gents please

all them coppers and stewards and none of them saw who threw the flare! Or they blanked the embarrassing moment out. I was there for the game, and can't remember seeing a flare! When was this flare thrown?

It was during the first half was it while their No 8 was down injured? It was quite a small flare and if you weren't up their end (I am in Block 2) you may well not have noticed it. It sort of landed to the Block 19 side of the goal.

I don't think it was set off properly. It looked a shambles.

It did look a bit pathetic all on its own. It looked like it had come free with this weeks Beano and to be honest I felt a bit sorry for it. The steward walked up all nonchalantly, tipped his sand bucket to let a few grains of sand fall out and then walked away. Job done, it went out without even a wimper.
It was a sad end to what must have been really exciting to the person who threw it. Since buying their Beano that morning they must've been wetting themselves in anticipation of the commotion it might cause amongst the Greenhous masses.

Is this the bloke who goes by the name 'The General'? . Just out of curiosity can I ask where you heard that? I dont know the bloke personally but know his name and know people that know him. Obviously being a big bloke Ive often seen him around at home and away games but have never heard him been called anything other than his name

As people are crying out for eyewitness reports, and also to clear some of the more ridiculous stories on here, this is what I saw (I was 3 rows behind the chap in question).
A policeman walked over and said something to him, to which he climbed over the seat in front of him to join the policeman (presumably as asked to). The policeman said something else and placed his hand on the mans arm, to which the man became agitated, at one point pulling his hand back with a clenched fist. Further police then got hold of him and threw him out.
For what it's worth, I assumed he had been thrown out for a previous ban, as he didn't seem to have done anything wrong in the build up to it all.

Afro, did you not see the policeman tell him to sit down? He also gestured to him to sit down.
I was several rows behind possibly 8 and could clearly see what the policeman said. I know the chap was busy celebrating the goal and I do sympathise with him being singled out as one person to sit down seeing as most of 18/19 were stood up.
Perhaps it will be on camera somewhere . . .

I wonder how the Walsall fan got the flare into the ground? Wasn't he searched?
I tend to dress very 1970's, and I had to enter the ground with no trousers on, after having my flares confiscated.

They did say they were going to thoroughly search us all, I turned up 5 minutes until KO and walked straight in through the turnstiles.
I'd get me money back on that dire flare/smoke bomb. What a shambles.

Pulled arm back with clenched fist...?Could the officer interpret this as preparing to throw a punch perhaps?

Have been reading "reports" and "eye-witness" accounts of this "shocking" incident and quite frankly i'm amazed at how far people are from the actual events. For the record I have a season ticket directly in front of the said gentleman. Always found him to be decent chap with good banter. Lets look at the facts regarding Saturday's game v Walsall! A huge police presence due to the expected violence between "fans", actually played out in town pre-match. The game is also live on TV. The police were quiet simply on edge having seen what happened earlier in Shrews. Most definitely told to stamp out potential issues within the ground. At the time of the incident I was sat, as always in front of the chap. A police officer, high ranking came to the front of Block 18 to tell everyone to sit down in what I would describe as in a hugely aggressive tone. Absolutely no need as no harm was being done, merely celebrating a 1 nil scoreline. As the police officer said, it's an all-seater stadium so sit down. Harsh in his tone, but correct in his statement. The gentleman behind me said no, clearly a mistake when speaking to an already aggravated officer. The officer could have picked one of hundreds also standing at the time, but just happened to query someone near to him. This was highlighted by the gentlemans refusal in sit down at the time. He then spoke to the officer and his pals. The police were very aggressive towards him and pushed him a little. Rightly having done nothing that warranted arrest / ejection the gentleman was aggetated and shrugged away from the police. They clearly saw this as their ticket to book an innocent fan. Ridiculous considering that flares were being thrown in the Walsall end and several of their fans had scarfs wrapped around their faces, hats pulled down and hoodies up, showing just their eyes. Obviously they must have looked like " decent" folk to the police. I hope the gentleman ejected returns to his rightful seat soon. If anything is to be learnt it is that heavy handing policing is not always the best policy. So much for being as one with the community! Not all football fans are hoodlums!

As the police officer said, it's an all-seater stadium so sit down. Harsh in his tone, but correct in his statement. Just to clarify that it isn't illegal to stand in an all seater stadium, so i'm not ensure why he felt the need to enforce what was a ground regulation www.fsf.org.uk/media/uploaded/Legalities-of-standing.pdf- It is widely believed that this practice is illegal. This is not the case, even within Premier League and Championship grounds. The law only provides that these clubs should provide seats for all supporters, not that supporters must sit on them.
- The point is confirmed by the Department for Culture, Media and Sport: ‘At no point has it been argued that the individual spectator commits a criminal offence by standing in a seated area’ (Source: Letter to Football Supporters Federation, 2008)
- Standing in seated areas, is, however, contrary to ground regulations. For example, the Football League’s model set of ground regulations states: ‘Nobody may stand in any seating area whilst play is in progress. Persistent standing in seated areas whilst play is in progress is strictly forbidden and may result in ejection from the ground’.Now if the club asked him into the ground to enforce the rule then fair enough, but I doubt this was the case. Looks to me like a copper letting power go to his head, struggling to cope with the occasion (albeit it was hardly Celtic vs Rangers) and a fan just not doing as he was told. Completely avoidable on both sides. The fan involved could've just sat down. and the copper could've just handled it much better. Bonkers really. I wonder if the copper felt he had done a 'good job'.

Just a bit more on that:
- The ground regulations of a club (including the ban on persistent standing) form a contract between the supporter and the club. - By standing, the supporter is in breach of that contract. This is a civil, not a criminal matter. - Therefore, a supporter cannot be arrested simply for standing. For that reason, it is not a matter that the police should be involved in, unless (for example) a supporter assaults a steward asking to get people to sit down; that would be a criminal offence.
