Note – Glyn Price – Personal views in Italics Fans Reps Meeting 1 - 7pm - 29th March 2012 – Darwin Meeting Room – Greenhous Meadow – STFC Attended by Representing STFC - Martin James (Chairman of the meeting), Andy Pugh (finance department), Ian Whitfield (Media/Communications) Representing Blue and Amber, ASFC and Fanzine –Glyn Price Representing Official Supporters Club (OSC) – Simon Moore, Ian Venables, Ralph Clayton, Brian Jones Representing SuperBlues/Away Supporters Travel – Chris Smith, Chris Winter, Graham Puttock Representing ShrewsTrust – Adie Plimmer, Colin Storey Martins IntroductionThe meeting with Martin talking about the importance of open and honest communication between the club, and the wider fanbase (via the groups). These meetings will hopefully raise and discuss the issues of the day for the supports and the club, and be a sounding board. These meetings will also be used to give out clarity and information on matters from the club to the fans. At each meeting different members of STFC may attend depending on the type of matters that will be discussed (ie if there are particular matters related to tickets than a member of the senior staff from the ticket office can attend). I personally felt that was a pretty good idea as the discussions we have in the meetings can have more focus. Introductions Andy Pugh said that he was the voice of the club at the meeting and could provided an overview of how the club operates. He would also take any representations to the board following the meeting. Ian Whitfield – Ian set out his history at the club, and how he wished that these meetings would be proactive and regular, and that questions could be raised within shorter timeframes that usual. Ian was also keen on monthly meetings throughout the season, which is significantly regular that has been for the past 5 years. I had my say then, and set out who I was there on behalf of and hoped that the meetings could be a regular fixture and help both the club and fans. NOTE - I’m not sure its fair to say specifically what other reps said at the meetings. I think its fair to say what I said, and the members from the club however, and I shall do in this in all feedback reports. The introductions continued around the room as the remaining reps made there introductions. The main points made by others were that; • improved communication between the club and the fan base and that this meeting should have “teeth” in getting things done. • matchday experience to be a focus of these meetings and how this could it be improved? • Other said that airing views is important directly to the club And that fans want to see an improvement in the club finance position, fan base numbers, kids attending the games and the matchday experience improving. • Others said getting the views of the supporter groups would help working together and to get more interest raised in the club within the community. • It was also commented that a better balance between corporate and ordinary fan treatment would be desirable and that this group can represent the views of ordinary supporters (I particularly agreed with this point). • It was also commented in the introductions, that working together in the meetings, all reps could use there websites and groups to counter false rumours and report the facts as discussed at these meetings. This forum can bring supporter groups together. I found the introductions useful, I personally did not know a number of the people there, and it was good to see that generally the feeling in the room was positive and this could be a fresh start in club/fan liaison. I also thought it was interesting how many people made comments on how they wanted to improve the match day experience. We then moved onto an agenda of sorts which I will cover in each section below. This is not an exhaustive commentary on the talking points. As you will understand some figures were discussed which are private, and issues related to insurance, and other sensitive club matters were set out to the reps to give a flavour of the on going issues the club are dealing with. However the sections below set out in a fair and balanced way how the discussion points were talked about on the night. 1. The Port Vale Fire and Ongoing Aftermath Andy Pugh went over in some detail the events of that night from the bulbs popping, the fire being discovered, the call to the emergency services, the handing over of control to the emergency services, evacuation and repairs. The club had a debrief in which we were congratulatory of many aspects but constructively critical of our whole process. This was an unprecedented incident for a football league club in modern times and some football league clubs had been in contact asking for information and support in their emergency planning. The club set out a couple of interesting points. From the moment that the fire service arrived the evacuation and control of the incident was in there hands. They also set out that asking people to retain there ticket stubs is part of the “evacuation protocol” as it stopped fans milling around a fire scene asking for more details on the ticketing arrangements. That’s why the announcement was made on the night. The fan reps then made a series of observations on how the whole thing had evolved from there view, including stewarding arrangements, club staff and high viz vests, the lack of sound from the west stand tannoy during announcements, evacuation protocols for the disabled supporters in the east stand, a loudhailer to have been used in the carpark, stewards to have lights sticks on hand for better signalling and the time it took to evacuate the stadium. Andy said he would take these really useful comments to the next meetings he has with the stadium safety staff and feedback (presumably at the next meeting). My view on this was that it was nice to see that although the club had had great press over how they dealt with the fire and the evacuation, there is no danger of the club sitting by and not pressing on with improvements to there plans off the back of the incident. Andy then said the electricians were in fixing the lighting circuitry. At the time he set out that it had to be fixed due to a Football League restriction that even in daylight games your lights must work, if not the game would be off. However we all know that ended well. 2. Exit gates onto SuperBlues WayAn issue I raised, was one of getting out onto Superblues Way after the game had been called off. It evolved into a separate discussion point. I noted (supported by others) that congestion on evening games now the Park and Ride site has been opened for use, at the one and only gate onto SuperBlues Way is significantly worse. Its clear that the balance of people travelling left and right onto SBW has changed and that more are now heading towards the Park and Ride. The question was raised, could there be another gate nearer to Sainsbury’s end so that supporter traffic could be separated out? This would also mean that fans need to use less of the dangerous and unlit path and would travel to nearer the underpass to Sainsbury’s inside land held by STFC. The club will be looking into the issue. It was agreed that the club need to sit down with the Council again to discuss the issue of the pathway behind the stadium ( and personal view access in general). The club agreed that it was relevant now that the council have set a precedent of allowing parking on the Meole Brace Park and Ride for night games. It was also interesting to note that this was NOT something which the Club had not been informed of before it happened! Andy Pugh made the comment that the first he heard of it was on the radio on the way to work one morning! 3. Tickets to the Port Vale Replayed GameThings have clearly moved on since the meeting. Headline of the point is I feel that combined with the negative response, the emails the club had received, and the passionate discussion in the meeting, the club were able to take a step back and change the call on the tickets, which was the right thing in my view ( as it was at the time in the meeting). However to be honest at the time of the meeting there was not an inkling of them changing there mind. There was never any discussion at the club on charging ST holders for re-entry. Fans reps agreed about that. Myself and a couple of others picked up on the announcement on the night to “retain your ticket stubs” and how this given hope to those supporters that they would get in free for the replay. Noted above why this was. I set out that even if the ticket stub holders could not have a free ticket, the should have some “bonus” compared to people turning up to the replay for the first time. The former pricing structure and how it came about was set out by Andy Pugh and how it had to bebeen agreed with Port Vale and the FL. It was felt that £10 and £5 was reasonable. Andy Pugh also said that some people would throw stubs away, logistical problems with those saying that had attended but lost stubs. Andy then went on to set out that its hard sometimes for fans to see the intrinsic costs associated with replaying this game. Costs would involve police, 120 stewards, extra hospitality staff, pre and post set up and cleaning of the stadium and more. It was felt at the time even with the pricing the club would not make money on this game, it will lose out. The reduced ticket price was designed to help to cover a proportion of the costs. The club could have asked for a full price of admission but had set these lower rates as gesture towards the fans. Fans asked for a differential in the price for those with stubs would mitigate a lot of displeasure. It was understood that the supporter is only entitled to a free ticket if 45 mins of the game had not elapsed. Some of the fans present actually agreed with the price structure the club had come up with, which caused some heated discussion. There was a feeling that the club could be clearer in the information it released and more frequent. A reduced price does attract more supporters who did not attend the first game to the replay. Fans agreed with this, but asked why this was not mentioned in the first press releases. I think a consensus came about that, this game does represent a great chance for a massive attendants and everyone should work together to make sure this happens, and the costs are covered as much as possible. Andy then set out quite honestly how the past two days had been very challenging for small league two club, with so much distraction, meetings with builders, electricians, insurers and internal events to monitor that the club staff had been under a lot of pressure to get the date of the replay and the ticket pricing sorted. It was agreed that the views aired would be taken back to the club and discussed. The next day everything changed. 4. Misrepresentation of the clubAn issue that was raised is that of how the club is at times misrepresented, particaully in the fanzine and on B and A. One particular incident was discussed and it was felt by the club that a new member of staff was mistreated on B and A. All agreed at the meeting that the comments were outrageous and unwelcoming. As the rep for B and A I had my say, and its worth setting out what I said at the meeting to all users of B and A. About 2 years ago, B and A had a real problem, it was littered with causal rasist comments, internal arguments, threatening behaviour and worse legal liability comments about staff members of the club and at times players. At the time when Ant stepped down from his role as the second Admin of B and A (along side Pilch) I said to Pilch I would be happy to do it as long as I could, alongside him, change a few things. I wanted B and A to be a little more of a friendly place. So we established rules for the first time, cracked down on the posters who were brining B and A down or getting it into trouble (not instantly many many warnings were given). In the end I feel that a few years down the line we have had a positive impact. I also think that despite the issues raised there was a feeling that the club can see how B and A has improved hense the messageboard being invited to the fans reps meetings in the first place. I did also set out that there is a limit to what I (we as Mods) will remove from B and A. I said that B and A operated like people chatting down the pub and as long as the Proboards rules, or our our rules are not broken it will likely never be removed. In all the time the new B and A board has been going on proboards, only a few times has the club asked for a thread to be removed and looking back on all these occasions it was with good reason. However on the matter of rumours, which it really does seem to be a major point of annoyance at the club with B and A, It’s a two way street. I said and fairly, we work hard to keep everything ship shape on B and A, but when a rumour has started due to a lack of information from the club, then that’s not helpful either and there is little that we would do to stop it. The club set out that there have not been announcements on the last three staff members to leave the club doe to a variety of reasons. It was agreed by all that clearer communication from the club about staff comings and goings would prevent the rumour mongering to a large extent which seems to cause so much annoyance at the club. There was also a discussion with some of the other fans reps groups and people who asked if B and A could moderate the type of posts that are made about players, which seem harsh. I set out firmly that this would not be changed. People can speak openly and freely about players they like or dislike… It is hoped that this forum will help to get the real facts out to the supporter base via individual group networks. This means that B and A users attending the meetings can provided clarity at times which may stop rumours spiralling out of control to something which causes a problem between the club and fan base. That’s a good thing IMO. The club also raised issue with the content of the last fanzine, and article on Anton Gunter which its said contained factual inaccuracies about members of staff and movements out of the club. Martin said the club will answer questions raised with it through the right channels which Ian Whitfield had set up (ask the club feature or emailing the club). We want to avoid rumour and misrepresentation especially as there are a minority who take pleasure in spreading false information (this comment was not aimed at the fanzine BTW)My personal view on this was it was good to get this issue out in the open. Its been know for a while that the lack of control the club has over B and A and the fanzine is an issue to them. At times comments can misrepresent the club and people who have and did work for the club. Yes more information from the club can stop a lot of rumours that seem to cause them so much consignation and that’s to be greatly praised if that’s what we see. We will just have to see how much more open the club are going forward. It is noted however that the week after this meeting saw much more information being presented on the club website from ticket sales updates, banning issues, and the change on ticket prices. However, don’t expect to see any change of B and A. We run as we were before, vigilant to the trouble makers who might cause us legal issues, and leave 99.9% of threads and discussion points un touched. 5. Club response to misbehaviour by fansSeveral issues to do with incidents of unruly behaviour at recent games were discussed (including as far back as Oxford last season). These revolved around racist comments from our fans home and away, what happens to supporters who encroach onto the pitch and banning orders. Both Martin and Andy were keen to stress that the club has a strict anti-racism policy with signs around, messages in the programme etc. Racism is not tolerated but must be reported by fans to stewards who will then take action. Fans have been banned from the ground for this, including one this season. CCTV is used to identify those who go on the pitch or misbehave in the stands. Information is shared with the Police. They will act at their discretion including visiting and arresting alleged wrongdoers at home. As we know two bans from the club were issued the next day, and its clear the club do make that effort to punish people who are tarnishing the club fans and clubs reputation, home or away. 6. General QuestionsTo be fair with the fire and tickets issues, we had already been there over 2 hours! So we never really toutched on some of the more regular issues fans raise (set out below). However there was time for more fans questions. Fans reps asked how season ticket numbers were going. Andy reported over 1000 sold and 104 more than same stage last season. Extended date of Early Bird to April 4th. The club issued a further update on this on Friday last week. Sovereign membership uptake had been very positive. The club had consulted with membership and taken on board constructive criticism. Limited to around 250 members allowed so if do not fill this will circulate season ticket holders if they wish to join. New Away Kit 2012/13 – Ian Whitfield said this had been decided upon and ordered from JOMA for next season. This will be announced in due course and plans are in place for the launch. Andy said always good to get feedback about the quality of the kit following some fans comments that the first JOMA effort the 125 shirt. However these issues were found to be to do with the sponsor logo material not bonding with the Italian material. Returns this season with the Blue and Amber shirt have been very low compared to recent kits and this has sold very very well. Joma have been a very good company to work with and we get a bespoke kit from them not an off the peg effort like many other clubs. Wimbledon tickets – The club hope to have solid news on this ASAP Wimbledon looking to start work on a stand and hence reduce our allocation. STFC and Torquay (who have also got an important game at Wimbledon) are disputing this with the FA. Plans are on going to show a live feed at the GM. An announcement about all of this will be made when the pieces are complete. Im my view this was a much more complicated issue that I would have thought previously, from permission and costs to get a live feed, how they can show it, permissions from Wimbeldon, issues with the ticketing arrangements. I think the club are probably right to wait until everything is sorted 100% rather than disappoint people. Martin then thanked all for attending a very positive and open first meeting. Next meeting to be decided but before the end of the season. Summary of the Meeting – Way Forward for B and A And that was that, almost 2 hours 45 minutes later, I instantly left as I had told the wife I would be home after an hour and a half! I really think these meetings have legs. I’m personally not afraid to go to these meetings and challenge the club on matters, but I’m also wise enough to understand a sensible and reasoned justification. The resp at these meetings for all supports groups are now attending something that they should be using to take there supporters issues to the club. I see my role as alittle different though. Representing B and A, is essentially representing everyone and anyone. There are membership criteria for B and A, and discussion and view points vary massively. Its upon me to try anf get to the bottom of what we think as a group, alongside the feedback I get from playing for the ASFC and selling fanzines. At the end of the day B and A is now seen as a supportrs group, and that’s a real positive IMO. However from this feedback I hope people can see that this is a different type of meeting. One which 99% of the details are being presented to fans, and one I think has already had some results. These meeting used to happen and then stuff would seep out to the fan base. By this long post I hope to make it a more direct form of communication. For each of the next meetings Martin will be setting up agendas. As a rep for this messageboard, I would therefore ask if you have any issue you want to raise, which you just want an answer on, lift them on this thread and I will take them with me. I have already had people asking me to talk about; • Loyalty Points for 2012/13 and what’s going to happen • Pre Season games, and a reasonable pricing structure • The Club Badge, its still not gone away for a lot of fans • The Online Shop and how bad it is • Half time entertainment, and how this can be improved • Access to the ground from Otley Road (another issue the club have addressed, but fans are still not happy about) I cant say that everything will get raised straight away, you can seen that the meeting agenda may end up being really long, but to be able to raise a couple of issues in the next meeting would be good. Lastly, I’m sure there are a tonne of grammatical and spelling errors in the above so good luck Cheers Pricey

Note - Glyn Price – Personal views in Italics Original Meeting Noteswww.shrewsburytown.com/page/NewsDetail/0,,10443~2803310,00.html Fans Reps Meeting 2 - 7.30pm - 28th May 2012 – Darwin Meeting Room – Greenhous Meadow – STFC Attended by Representing STFC - Martin James (Chairman of the meeting), Ian Bebbington, Ian Whitfield (Media/Communications), Alan Robers (Safety Officer) Representing Blue and Amber, ASFC and B and A Fanzine – Glyn Price Representing Official Supporters Club (OSC) – Simon Moore, Ian Venables, Ralph Clayton, Brian Jones Representing SuperBlues/Away Supporters Travel – Chris Smith, Chris Winter, Graham Puttock Representing ShrewsTrust – Mike Davies, Colin Storey Apologies Sam Morris – ASFC Dave Matthias – Blue and Amber Fanzine Martins IntroductionMartin thanks everyone for coming, said that we did not want to be here almost 3 hours like the last meeting, breifley went over the purpose of the meeting, agenda and we soon cracked on. 1 - Feedback from the Club on issue raised in last meeting on access and egress from the stadium behind the West Stand. The increased use of the path towards Sainsbury’s, particularly since the Council decision to open the Meole Brace Park and Ride site on several Tuesday night games last season, raised concerns from the club and supporters over the state of the footpath, access to the ground health and safety issues. The club has been in conversation with the Council. The Club have produced evidence that the Council do have a responsibility for the path. I thought this was great to here and a final say on the matter of who owns Superblues way.The Council have now referred the matter to their maintenance department. The club have looked into the costs of upgrading the path and lighting and will assist where appropriate with the Council. A new exit gate in the West Stand fence is being sourced and its position ascertained in time for the start of the new season. We all talked about where and what form this gate should take, and plenty of good ideas were brought up by the reps from a much larger gate in the current location, to a separate gate so that north and southbound flows can be split. However it was agreed that its almost impossible for the club to know which would work better until the new gate is installed. The club and the Council are in discussions regarding potential use of the MB Park and Ride next season for night games. No decision has been made to date. The club has looked at the potential for a set of steps from the Oteley Road down onto the Super Blues Way approach road. Again this is the Council/Highways responsibility and there were concerns raised by the Highways regarding not allowing a spill of pedestrians exiting onto the Otely Road footpath and on to the road in the face of traffic. The Club continues to be in dialogue with the Council to find a solution. At the meeting is was very glad to here that this issue, something I feel really strong about is still on the clubs radar… case of watching the club. The club are committed to work with the Council and Supporter Groups to ensure that travel to and from the stadium is safe and secure. Off the back of the above discussion, it was also felt that fans could help the clubs case with the council in terms of applying pressure to them to get to grips with maintenance and lighting/surfacing of the Superblues way. I personally feel this is where B and A can be involved the most, with the writing of letters. Something that I need to discuss with Martin, but again something to keep an eye out for on B and A. With the discussions on going this is finally the right time to get involved and actively help the club. 2 - The Open day – date and planning. Planned for Sunday 5th August. Supporter groups asked to suggest how they would like to be involved. Any suggestions for help with family based activities. 3 - Supporter groups supporta - Active support for each other’s events through website, message board postings etc OSC expressed disappointment at comments made on Blue and Amber regarding their website having problems. It is under reconstruction. B and A said comments were jokes and not meant to offend. Essentially when there site went down I made a joke about them not paying there bills (and it was a joke), which in retrospect was not ideal. It did bring up the point that should any of the reps have an issue with something on B and A, then mods should be contacted in the first instance to discuss, and all reps should have a member on B and A to address any falsehoods as they see them (as happened in this case). The meeting agreed that each group should support the others in whatever way they can, particularly by flagging up events in as many forums as possible as most for the benefit of the general fan base. I also set out that despite the online presence of the OSC, Superblues, and Shrewstrust, the message board is a open community and all events by the clubs supporters groups can be advertised there. The Trust are generally the only ones to take advantage of this, but it was clear at the meeting that the offer is open to all groups. b - Future dates of supporter group events The club asked for each group to submit future dates of events so that a working calendar could be hosted on the club website. c - Supporters Player of the Year awards evening General feeling of the meeting was that the awards had gone well. Two issues were raised. One was that the food seemed to be all gone before some got a chance to reach it. Issues there of people piling up their plates or going back for seconds before others had any. Next year will look to have two food stations at either end of the room. The other point was about the awards going to just a few players. This will happen when each group has the same category of award and a highly popular winner scoops all the awards. Each group to look at another award e.g. performance of the season, so that more players are rewarded. Ideas to be put forward to Graham turner for his views on suitability. I stated, that B and A also voted for the same player to be player of the season (although we don’t give an award). I said that next season we would vote on an “alternative award” (as long as GT is happy) and give it out on the night. Need B and A members ideas on what the award could be though – initial ideas “Best Away Player”, “Unsung Hero”, “Moment of the Season”… thoughts would be good. 4 - Loyalty points – how it will work next season The club was asked for more clarity on the process of applying loyalty points as the issue of the Wimbledon game and supporters finding they had no loyalty points or less than they thought etc, had caused all sorts of confusion and concern. The club responded that the operating system in itself is quite simple but requires supporters to follow some specific guidance. All supporters wishing to accumulate loyalty points must be registered onto the ticketing system. If a supporter purchases a ticket for friends and family they must also quote these numbers separately on each purchase. Normally approximately 30mins before kick off the ticket office reverts to “generic sales” this allows tickets to be sold without supporter numbers – This is so the Ticket office staff can concentrate of reducing queues as quickly as possible before kick off! Please be aware supporters purchasing tickets in this time frame might not have loyalty points attributed to them. An upgrade to the ticketing system is almost complete it will allow for multiple purchase and recording of the supporter numbers of each ticket holder if the purchaser has those details. All tickets will have the accumulated loyalty points printed on them beginning from the new season, which will enable the supporter to see exactly how many they have and can report any issues in good time to the ticket office. Supporters will also be able to access their account through the online system to see when and where loyalty points were allocated. At the next meeting of the SGF we will discuss the possibility of extra loyalty points for users of the away support coaches and issues of regular away supporters who live away from Shrewsbury. Season Ticket holders and Super Blues members will have an allocation of points awarded prior to the season starting as this is a benefit of membership. My thoughts on this were very positive and the club are clearly looking to avoid another Wimbledon. This is an issue that will be taken forward into the next meeting, when the initial ideas discussed can be formalised more. I personally like the idea of the bus people getting an extra point or two as it mean a list of names is give to the club each week, so that come the end of the season its known who the regular bus travlers are. How many points and how that works will be a focus of the next meeting not doubt. The point is, and I will make it as clear as the club now, that next season should it arise, you need to be getting your own tickets, and getting the points on your account. YOU NEED A FAN NUMBER plain and simple, the club cant prove anything about your attendance without one. It was mentioned that the club will set out the formal process for all ticket games on the website before the start of the season so there will not be an excuse if the situation arises again (likely FA cup away). Thankfully all ticket away games will be rare this season due to size of the clubs were going to. Also it was mentioned briefly but missed off the meeting notes, that as part of the upgrade to the ticketing website, there is also improvements being made to the online club shop. 5 - Pre-Season pricing structure The club was asked if a £10 and £5 pricing structure or a group purchase reduced ticket price was going to be available. The club appreciate that most supporters wish to see the new team play in as many home pre-season friendlies as possible and that this is costly. However, the club are bound by agreed contracts with those clubs as is indicated in the information below. Each match is treated separately as they have entered into a contract with each Championship club. They cannot therefore group matches together for sales. The contract includes the clubs bringing their 1st team squads to give Grahams’ team the best opposition and quality for the supporters to watch. The pricing structure has to be agreed with each individual club. Most likely is a 50:50 share of the gate receipts after expenses including match costs, referee and officials, stewarding, policing (likely to be considerable for Birmingham and Wolves) etc. We will have to pay their coach travel costs if asked for. The club reported that the Safety Advisory Group will have a say in the category of the matches and will insist upon the levels of stewarding and policing for each individual game. As an example policing costs outside of the stadium, within our perimeter, run at £5000, if the police come into the stadium that can escalate to around £14000. Our average stewarding costs are £4000 per match Some of the numbers we were told about costs (such as above) are actually way higher than I thought, and its good to get them out in the public arena IMO. Having said that, Martin could not confirm the prices, as contracts are being discussed, so hopefully there is at least one of them that’s a bit cheaper than full price, who knows. I think one of the agenda items for next meeting from B and A will be the issue of new and more innovative ticketing solutions for the league campaign?? 6 - The Club BadgeThis issue was raised as the B and A representative pointed out that the petition was started by two younger supporters not by a group It was not an issue that would go away. There may be activities pre-season to increase awareness of the campaign. The club statement had caused issues with the supporter base. It had “put people’s back up”, was dismissive of the feeling of a section of the football club support. It was felt that should a change be made in future to the branding of the club that the supporters should be included in the consultation as had happened with the blue and amber shirts. The club position was explained. The original change to the business plan over 5 years ago had been publicised many times over the past few years and debated on various forums. The club initiated a review of its business plan to move the club forward from its position in League Two at the Gay Meadow into a club looking to its future. A part of that plan was a re-branding of the club, including the whole of the badge. The club needed to have its own registered trade mark. This was done and the club still use it on all of their branded equipment, merchandising and intellectual materials. The club’s position is that there is no desire to change that branding at this time. It was a business decision to protect its registered trade mark and have control over its merchandising. The Club embraces its history and celebrates it around the ground in the concourses and in the hospitality areas and through initiatives that have, by design, involved supporter groups. These include the Legends and the Hall of Fame, the Shrews Tales and More heritage project, the West Stand mural and the panels on the walls of the South and West stands. The club is proud of its history and all eras of the club’s existence are to be found within the Greenhous Meadow. The Club appreciates and accepts the feelings a section of its large and widespread fan base have towards a logo used on shirts in the past. The Club decision to change its registered trade mark was not made with sentiment in mind it was a clear business case at that time. Since we have moved to the Greenhous Meadow shirt sales have increased year on year, last season reaching record levels. This was due to the shirt design itself, designed by a supporter, not the badge. Merchandise is bought to support Shrewsbury Town FC. The club have instigated proceedings against sellers of counterfeit merchandise that bears our club’s badge. Solicitor’s letters are sent to anyone who fails to heed a warning shot. The Council have responsibility for sales outside the ground footprint. The Club and Council have discussed the matter of these sales and the Council will act through their officers on the ground. The celebration parade was not felt to be the time or place to quell the general euphoria and mood of celebration by acting to close sellers down. The Club is prepared to receive the petition with grace and invite its originators to join a future SGF meeting to discuss the issues and possible ways forward for the future, but its position on the current badge remains. The Club accept that its statement at the launch of the petition was poorly phrased. There was a genuine feeling of disappointment and upset within the club, not just by the Board and the Manager, at the timing of the launch of such a petition when the feel good factor of gaining promotion was flowing through the Club and the mass of supporters. In retrospect the statement could have recognised the issue whilst expressing disappointment at it being raised again at this time. The club regrets the impression of dismissiveness that some perceived, it was not meant. Petitions are not the best way to engage with the Club. This Supporter Group Forum is designed to do that. To bring forward issues for face to face, thoughtful, informed and reasoned presentation and discussion. The Club want to communicate with the supporters but through a medium which allows for genuine two-way discussion. If the issue of the badge still needs to be discussed a separate meeting of the Supporter Groups Forum can be organised, if that is the desire of the membership of the Forum. Interesting discussion, that went back and forth, and there were plenty of things said from both sides. Essentially, as set out above, a further meeting on this with the lads who started the petition, is likely needed. The petition has now been sent to the club, and I know there seeking to have a chat with the lads behind it (Geoff and Justin). I really think it would be helpful to both sides to sit down and set out where they are with it, and if necessary have some of the fans reps in attendance too (said that B and A would come if needed). I will pass on what came out of the meeting to the lads and inform them (they already have been by email I think) that the club would like to engage with them. Martin then thanked all for attending a very positive and open second meeting. Next meeting within a month. My Summary of the Meeting I think it was better than we could have expected, after the first meeting we are already seeing REAL progress on the issues of access and ticketing which blighted the end of last season. This can only be seen as positive for the club and reps meetings, even the steps onto Otley Road are still on the agenda, who would have thought that!!! In terms of B and A and what wee can go off the back of this one, its going to be letters to the council, and letters to the paper, in support of them taking control of Superblues way and in conjunction with the club getting the issues sorted. I will speak with Martin and the club about how best this is done, and then post up an action plan if required. In terms of the badge, well it is what it is at the moment, great to see an apologie for the manner of the initial statement on the petition, much needed. As for the way forward, the reps have done there bit in getting the campaign recognised with the club, and they are fairly asking to meet the two lads and other reps for a further meeting on the matter. Things move on so quick with this that there is more to add into the pot as we go. The balls in both courts though, the club have the petition and as such need to respond, and the lads who started and pushed the campaign have been asked to attend a meeting. Issued for the next meeting from B and A I think clearly we will need a review of the issues above and progress, but for the next meeting I propose the following agenda items from B and A - Half time Entertainment and how it can be improved - Innovative ticketing solutions for next season However I also need the community to chip in with any more key agenda items that we might want to cover. I cant say that everything will get raised straight away, you can seen that the meeting agenda may end up being really long, but to be able to raise a couple of issues in the next meeting would be good. Return of the B and A Questions to the ClubHowever as previously mentioned, we have agreed to return the B and A ask the club feature, for all the little day to day questions, and issues. I will be starting that from next week, but in the mean time, if you want something answered by the club just speak direct to them on the Q and A section of the website. Cheers Pricey

You need to have a looma the first meeting notes...
In that meeting lots of discussion on the access egress issue, and its clear the club have done a LOT of work behind the sceans to adress the issues. Hopefully by the start of the season (and the assistance of the council) there will be on the groud improvements.
Im sure looking back in a month or two there will be prgress on some of the issues dicsussed in the 2nd meeting (loyalty points and ticketing system)

Thanks for putting on your comments, Glyn. Can I please re-emphasise that the Club is working well with the Council on the access issues at the back of the stadium. We are looking for support for the combined efforts of Club and Supporter Groups but do not wish anyone to take up a "campaign for action". That is not what is needed and may set back discussions. Simple messages of support for improved access, especially from those supporters who use that route, will help the process.
Thanks all.
Martin

Hi Geoff
I think that it might be appropriate to collect such messages together a) so they can be read by all (and seen to be appropriate and supportive using the right language!) b) the Club need to find out who the best recipient will be for such support c) the timing of sending such messages of support needs to be co-ordinated for maximum effect in the support of the process of discussion between the Club and Supporter Groups and the Council. d)Individual messages delivered over a period ot time may be diluted in their effect? Not sure, and would take opinions on this.
I will speak to Whitters, but perhaps sending in via the Q and A to the Club he can file the messages together and put them on the website for access? Just a thought and I will need to check whether this is appropriate or there is some other option.

Third Fans Reps Meeting
Supporter Groups Forum Agenda – Wed 11th July
I was not present at this meeting (illness) so none of the regular commentary from B and A's End. Plenty of interesting issues fell out of this meeting though.
Feedback from the club on pre-season issues
The Club related the new prices for the season ahead with broadly speaking a £2 increase in adult prices and a £1 increase in child prices. The Club would be releasing a statement the next day. A review was carried out on last season’s prices for League 1 clubs and consideration was given to their location and time in the League. The increase in admission prices means we remain on the mid to lower end of the scale on prices. On deciding the pricing thought also had to be given to the fact League payments to the clubs have reduced (League 1 payments compared to the same last year), funding for the COE through the new EPPP means the club have a greatly increased financial commitment along with the increased requirements for match day provision. The ticket price increase helps to contribute towards some of these areas, not to fully cover. We have also to fund an increasing player budget for League One.
New Ticketing System
A new ticketing system has been developed and is now “live”. It allows for on line selection of seats and payment for tickets as well as on line shopping through access to the club shop and other opportunities.
New Website
A new website is about to be launched which will be more user friendly and offer easier access to information about the club.
New TV and Scoreboard
A new deal has been secured to provide 24 TV screens around the concourses and a new colour , LED scoreboard will be in place for the start of the season. Both allow for better viewing and the ability to put up sponsors messages etc.
Tom Bradshaw Issues
The Club position with regard to Tom Bradshaw and Aberystwyth Town was explained. In both this case and that of Chris Humphrey the Club felt it was in a strong position to refute the compensation claim from Aber and to get compensation from Motherwell. In spite of the FA and the Football League accepting and giving their support to the strength of the STFC case in both situations, the FIFA ruling body had their own rules and gave judgements against us. The cost through lost revenue and legal battles to the Club has exceeded £140,000. The Club will be pursuing Swindon Town for a sizeable compensation amount for the signing of James Collins.
The Meole Brace Park and Ride car park
the Council are undertaking a feasibility study at present as to its potential use for parking on match days. There are many influences on this judgement including the volume of use by non-match car parking at times of the year when the Town is busy ( e.g. Christmas) and also the impact on other car park providers in the area. As more information becomes available the Forum will be informed.
Superblues Way
The Council have acknowledged that they have responsibility for the path at the rear of the West Stand. In the interests of helping the Council the Club asked supporter groups if they felt volunteers would make themselves available as a working party to help clear then weeds and as the Council are making available some surface materials, to fill in the puddle holes. General feeling was that this could well be supported by the fans Ian Bebbington to be asked to co-ordinate this. This could lead to a positive news story for the supporter groups and the Club.
Open Day
The Open day is Sunday 5th August from 10 am to 2 pm. Supporter groups will have space for displays etc and were asked if they can think of any activities that might be attractive to the fans on the day. The Club asked if anyone knew of face painters, jugglers, magicians, clowns etc. who might give their time on the day. The players will attend a training session on the pitch followed by a signing session. Fans will be able to circulate the stadium on a self led tour using a map rather than having to wait for a tour.
Branding of the club going forward
The Club said that how and why the present badge was introduced has been well documented and we have it and will continue with it until a re-branding takes place. The issue was not with the petition itself but with its timing at a moment when the good feelings about promotion were running high – it felt like a negative to the Club. The Club has apologised for the terminology used in its statement about the petition at that time. The representative from the petition organisers produced some interesting data from an on line survey concerning views about the badge and the use of the loggerheads symbol in particular. He presented the views of those who wish to see the return of the loggerheads in some format.
Moving forward the Club wishes to make the point that it is interested in the views of the supporters and through vehicles like the Supporter Groups Forum it was actively engaging in better communication, both ways, between the Club and its supporters. The latest home kit was an example of the Club interacting with the supporters in asking for kit design suggestions and a public vote resulting in the present popular shirt.
The Chairman and Board will wish to engage with the supporter base again in the future branding of the Club, for example through its next badge. This could be through suggested designs by supporters and voting again. The timing of any change is not imminent, but nor is it a long term promise.
There are various contractual obligations the Club has with suppliers that have to be part of the decision process on when to change. However, a gradual implementation of a change of badge is probable. The Club would wish to see the round badge design retained as part of the copyrighted brand. The content of the centre to be open to design suggestions. One or two designs that had been submitted were looked at by the Forum as examples of what supporters can provide.
Half time entertainment (pre/match also)
Comments were made about the lack of half time entertainment and the fact that it is difficult to see what is going on at present in the corner of the family and south stands. Could it be rotated around the ground at different matches? Interviews with past players are too short. Could things happen on the pitch as they do at other clubs e.g. football matches? The issue here is the managers view on watering of the pitch at half time to ensure a slick passing surface and the desire to maintain a good playing surface for the whole season. The Club will speak to the manager about use of the pitch. The club asked the supporters groups to put out the word that people who are face painters, clowns, jugglers, magicians etc. would be welcome to contact Martin James with a view to entertaining families and adults before the match starts and at half time. Perhaps local bands, dance groups could be featured.
West and South Stand Buffet congestion at half time
There were expressions of concern about crowding around the buffets especially on busy match days. Many points were raised and will be taken forward for analysis and discussion with Jenny’s also. Markings at the buffets to encourage manageable queues, mobile units for sale of drinks or food at points around the stands, encouraging stewards to ask people to move away from the buffet areas once served, move the tv’s away from the buffet area, more shelving away from the buffet areas.
Reserved stickers on season ticket holders seats
This has been done. Yellow stickers beneath the seat are in place to identify a season ticket holders seat
Ticket deals – what room is there for manoeuvre?
The subject of ticket deals arises each season and a response given that it is not as easy as offering a deal, there are League rules, timeframes etc etc, coupled with the fact the Club have set their prices at a rate throughout the season to be able to ensure sustainability and a match day experience both the fans and the club expect. Ideas were mentioned including offers such as a discount voucher if a batch of matches were brought for the club shop, this will be reviewed for practicality. The new ticketing system allows for the logging of loyalty points, supporter details and regular attendance etc that may be useful in future discussions about potential discounts or merchandise offers.
Details of the length of players contract – impact on shirt labelling with favourite players
Players contracts are subject to confidentiality rules set between the Club and the player. Permission from the player would need to be sought for release of information. In the lead up to the new season the release of information about contract terms for one player could influence negotiations with the next players being interviewed. The length of contracts is often agreed to be released much later in the season.
The Club Shop – how can it be freshened up?
Comments about the size of the shop and the quality, variety and availability of the stock were mentioned. The Club responded by saying that plans were in place to upgrade the infrastructure of the shop but we are stuck with the size of the room. Also changes to the range of stock was being finalised. There are issues of minimum order sizes which affect what is purchased. The new on-line shopping experience through the ticketing software would improve the club shopping experience.
The idea was raised of having stalls set up around the ground selling items such as scarves, hats , flags etc. This will be looked at.
Pre-match jingle
Raised as the possibility of having a pre-match jingle for the team to run out to as at the likes of Chelsea. General view of the meeting was not to adopt this. There are a great many views for and against any type of music before the match and also around goal celebrations. It is very difficult to get a consensus of opinion on what would be acceptable.

Supporter Groups Forum 4 – September 12th 2012 - Darwin Meeting Room – Greenhous Meadow – STFC Note - Glyn Price – Personal views in Italics Original Meeting Notes on Shrewsweb www.shrewsburytown.com/news/artic....rum-387251.aspxAttended by
Representing STFC - Martin James (Chairman of the meeting), Ian Pugh Representatives from Blue and Amber, ASFC and B and A Fanzine ( Glyn Price, Dave Matthias), Official Supporters Club (OSC), SuperBlues/Away Supporters Travel and ShrewsTrust Martins Introduction
Martin thanks everyone for coming, apologised for the delay between the last meeting and this one, said we should crack on. A) Refurbishment of Super Blues Way and possibility of installing safety lighting (Raised by SuperBlues)
The council had provided 40 tonnes of stone for the refurbishment of the pathway towards Sainsbury’s behind the West Stand. This was enough to top dress the existing Super Blues Way also. Thanks to the Super Blues for financing the work to install the stone. The Council are responsible for any decision on the potential lighting of the path. I raised the issue that if electricity costs were an issue for lighting the path, solar lighting could be an option to at least provided a directional lighting scheme in the dark. Said would forward information to the club. B) Proposed timetable for installation of new scoreboard and television screens (Asked by SuperBlues/ B and A)
Richard Hill says the length of time that it has taken since the first announcement is because the club are taking all the right precautions to make sure that once this process is complete that every angle can be covered both law/structurally and the benefit of Shrewsbury Town and its fans. The steel work frame , roof joist alterations will commence this week with a 3 – 4 week turnaround to get everything in place, fans must realise this is not a score board like the previous one and that it would be considerably heavier, a lot more technically advanced and will have electronic hoists installed so that the screen could be maintained. Therefore rather than go to the expense of installing a pontoon bridge or any other permanent rear access structure we needed all of these avenues to be explored to see which would be most practical before installation. The TV company who are installing the appliances are currently building a bespoke system to put on the screens, we are In consultation with them to make sure they will maximise the potential revenue streams for Shrewsbury Town whilst looking good and providing our fans with all the services they would require on a match day. We are moving the club forward off the pitch so that we can help move the club move forward on the pitch and realise the dreams and aspirations of our fans. This should be finalised this week which means we should be looking unveiling both additions in October. I thought this was fair enough. A lot of questions were asked about the actual TV and Scoreboard system, and we were pleased to hear that they have been purchased with some future media options in mind “Future proofing”. We can get stuff like replays, match highlights, ect down the line but STFC don’t have the media staff in place to provided this at the moment (Whits pointed out that Sheffield united had a large team on this at there place hence why there scoreboard stuff was so good, we just have whits and a helper at the moment). Scoreboard will also be able to help convey the messages, golden gamble numbers, birthdays. It works by uploading media files to it and pressing play (thats what I understood of it). The TVs work much the same and will have the mixed media feeds on them promised when we first moved to the new stadium (one section the Sky feed, one announcements, one advertising, one section possible town highlights?). All in all be good to get them up and running, and see what the club can do with it. C) Any further progress in improving the buffet arrangements and concourse shelving etc. (Asked by ShrewsTrust)
Concourse shelving in the West Stand to be removed from opposite the buffets to either end of the stand This has now been done D) Clarification on the issue of loyalty points (Asked by ShrewsTrust)
Andrew Pugh gave a proposal for discussion by the group of a simplified and fair apportioning of loyalty points. After much positive discussion with the supporter groups reps a simplified proposal was developed to take forward for further discussion within the club. Proposed Loyalty points structure for League and Cup matches (excluding reserve games) Home Matches: 1 Point Away Matches: 1.5 Points All season ticket holders, sovereign members and box holders (those who have given an advance commitment for the season) will receive 23 home points at the start of the season, extra points will be awarded if these members attend cup matches through the season where they are not included within the membership. Andrew Pugh has agreed to discuss with the ticketing software provider whether it is possible to split the points recording between home and away therefore if it is a home match which is predicted to be a sell-out then those with the most home awarded loyalty points will have priority with the same being applied to away matches. Personally this seemed like a decent idea, but until its sorted and the final status posted on the website, program for all fans to be aware off we cant chalk this issue off yet! Interested to see what other fans make of this idea, and the basic fact that the club want to first reward people pledging support the to the club with advanced money (ST, Sovereign) before everyone else? Away fans still get the slight benefit as well with the .5 point. The key for me is also setting limits then for all ticket games and the club sticking by this. As I have said in these meeting notes before, if you don’t have a fans number already, get one. The club need this to get you in the system and see if you are actually going to games and thus should situation arise be fairly due a ticket for a all ticket game. Not sure what more they can do really. E) What is the new management structure and the roles of Martin James and Andrew Pugh in particular? (Asked by ShrewsTrust)
Martin answered that he had been invited to join the club full time as Head of Human Resources and Community Development. This meant a move from his role as Community Development Manager for the Community Sports Trust charity. He would manage the transition to find a replacement for him to help the Trust and would be supporting their work from his position within the club. Andrew is now General Manager of the club and still maintains his Finance Manager role. Both Andrew and Martin are directly responsible to the Board. They are accountable for the functioning of the non-football side of the business. Each department head reports directly to them. Each department head manages their own staff. A simple structure of accountability and responsibility is being set up to ensure that, along with better inter-department communication, the business is more efficient and effective. Alan Roberts has been appointed to full time Stadium Manager and Safety Officer. His responsibilities include all aspects of match and non-match health and safety, the maintenance programme for the stadium, all dealings with the Safety Advisory Group. F) Can the issue of people smoking by the bricks at the reception entrance be resolved? (Asked by ShrewsTrust/ OSC)
This was discussed and the issue is especially bad when there are non-match day evening events. The club will look at better signage and roping off the brick areas as well as more regular cleaning. There was some discussion about moving the bricks to new location, or a wall on the side of the stadium, but it was deemed to difficult and the OSC would not like the idea. Possible new bricks could be located elsewhere though. G) Can a carnet of tickets be possible so supporters can by say 5 tickets at once but use them for games at their leisure? (Asked by B and A)
The simple answer is no. It is not a workable solution for our club at present with the way the ticketing software allows the management of ticketing for matches over the season. In addition, allowing the advance sale of tickets with no specific allocation provides a number of challenges and variables to match day planning which would impact on the match day experience. H) Has the club considered putting solar panels on the roof of the South Stand? (Asked by B and A)
Yes, two years ago the club looked into the costs and income benefits of installing solar panels. The benefits were not acceptable. The calculations at that time showed a return on investment through electricity generation savings would take over 40 years to cover initial costs. Subsequent tariff changes have ruled out the club ever following this route. We are however looking at LED lighting around various parts of the stadium I) Half time entertainment on the pitch. It is done at other clubs why not at ours? (Asked by B and A)
Martin said he would take the point on to speak with Graham Turner. This he did and the Manager was, in principle, in favour of some small sided games for children. Martin is now researching how this can be best operated with the coaches form the Community sports Trust and the Ground staff before reporting back to GT for permission to be granted. Personally as one of my bugbears at the moment, found that this was massive progress to getting something substantial happing at half time that is entertaining, and gives kids a “once in a life time” experience to play on the Meadow, and possibly hook them for life as town fans, which is what the future of the club will depend on! Looking forward to seeing what the club can bring forward on this. Something like this alongside the scoreboard half time offerings means that half time at the meadow might not be so stale from now on. J) Is there any likelihood of roving refreshment sellers to ease pressure on the buffet outlets? (B and A)
Jenny’s caterers have invested a lot of money into the infrastructure they have in place within the concourse buffets. Andrew will be speaking to them about the possibility of smaller outlets in other areas of the stadium. It was also suggested that Jennys might attend a meeting with the fans next time we meet. General censuses was that they do a great job, and there was much amusement when comparing it to the food offered at GM in the earl late 90’s!

Supporter Groups Forum 5 – Wednesday
December 12th 2012 - Darwin Meeting Room – Greenhous Meadow – STFC From the Club - Martin James, Ian Pugh, Alan Roberts, Ian Whitfield Fans groups present – Superblues, OSC, STFC ASFC, Blue and Amber, B and A Fanzine, Shrewstrust Note - Glyn Price – Personal - views in Italics
Original Meeting Notes on Shrewsweb
Meeting Started with an update on the issues raised over recent meetings to see there is any progress. 1 - Lighting of the SuperBlues Way - any change to the previous position
No
2 - Branding of the club – 5 months has passed since the last update, has anything changed? No, there are no plans as yet to re-brand the club
3 - Access to the Oteley Road.
There is nothing to update.
Its fair to say this part of the meeting flew by! I guess if the club don’t have anything to add the three points above then thats that... These questions will keep coming up in the forum I would think as they seem to be the three most talked about issues with the fans ATM.
4 - What is STFC’s position on the Safe Standing Areas initiative? Alan Roberts, Safety Officer, has attended a safety conference and seen the demo. Realistically we would have to install in the whole of the South Stand or a whole block. The rise and tread of the existing steps would lead to support rails having to be put across the whole width of the stand or block and all the way to the top of the stand. This would be financially unmanageable at this time. The stadium was built to be as safe as it could be as an “all seater” venue fit for the Championship and to be certified for UEFA matches. The club have no desire to change the existing seating and as is the case with the majority of league clubs we have not expressed an interest in this initiative. We have no problems with the SSA road show coming to the ground for supporters to see it. If we were to build new stands in the corners this may be a time to look at standing areas, subject to league regulations.
I found this to be an understandable answer, and left the door open for looking at it should the law, financial and safety requirements ease over the years.
5 -What is the position regarding stadium and shirt sponsorship going forward? Andy Pugh, General Manager, stated that both were in the final stages of very promising negotiations. There would be the appropriate release of this information in due course. 6 - Scoreboard update?
Alan Roberts said that the issue was entirely with the company installing the scoreboard. They are world class fitters of these types of screens and ours was bespoke built for this stadium. They had never had a problem before. Due to a catastrophic malfunction during the erection process the steel work and screen were damaged. The Health and Safety Executive have been involved in reviewing the original installation and advising on the re-installation. Effectively the process has had to start again and we are not willing to propose a completion date at this time.
Guess we are just unlucky, and personally I cant see this being the clubs fault in anyway. Again we discussed what the scoreboard can do a little and its going to be class when we finally get it installed!
7 - STFC home shirts for 2013/14 – will the fans be asked for designs to vote on this time? Yes, Ian Whitfield will be placing competition rules and guidance on the website shortly to encourage fans to come up with designs to be voted on early next year. The club colours of white, blue and amber will be the only colours accepted.
Great, this is the sort of thing that gives us fans a chance to have a say on what kit the club has. Think the deadline has passed now so interesting to see when we get an idea of the winner!
8 - Match day experience. Martin James, Head of Community Development, asked the supporter group reps for suggestions to improve the match day experience for fans. Conversations revolved around half time entertainments on the pitch e.g. crossbar challenge, 5 a side games for kids, pom pom girl displays, marching bands. Difficult to put on things before the matches as most fans arrive in the 20 mins before kick off. Occasional family day type activities were supported especially when the weather is good. Feature days e.g. wearing club colours, fancy dress and a legends day when the former players circulate the pitch.
We spent a LONG time talking about this as it’s something the club are keen to improve. However since December we have yet to see anything happen on this thus far. I'm sure the question will be raised at the next meeting. Personally I felt that its HT where something should be focused for all fans (young and old - a active competition on the pitch - cross bar challenge, kids football game), while entertainment for younger fans (mascot, games, ect) should be in the 30 mins run up to the KO as that’s when most of them arrive...
The scoreboard will play a big part in Halftime entertainment IMO when its up. Feature days was something I put forward and could work well with some promotion, and funds (not much though) spend on it... much like the Blue and Amber days the fanzine have promoted over the years... The club are all ears to anyone out there who has good ideas for entertainment at the ground.
9 - What are STFC’s thoughts on the club’s location for the Shrewsbury Sustainable Urban Extension (SUE) around the site and along the Oteley Road?
9a) Did the club submit anything to the Council as part of the public consultation.
The consultation period is still going on. The existing documentation released to the public are proposals not what actually will happen. The land for the Percy Thrower and Sutton Grange developments are the only parts at present which are agreed with developers. We are part of a Liaison Group which was established before the club moved to the present site. All aspects of the SUE will be part of our group meetings. We will attend meetings and offer views on aspects of the new development that may affect STFC.
9b) As part of this (long term development) does the club believe some of the issues with parking, lighting, access etc will be addressed.
Residential and employment areas are part of this development. The link underpass between Meole Brace Retail Park and the proposed new employment zone behind the ground will be developed and we expect to see people coming from several different directions to the ground. Changes to the present systems are expected to be implemented by the developers through the consultation process.
9c) Will the club be making itself heard as a key player in the area?
Yes as stated above we will be involved.
9d) Does STFC own land holdings outside of the gated area and if so is it considered this could generate funds down the line if required?
The land STFC owns lies within the green fence boundary. We do not own the land from the lights to the gates. As this will be a main access to the employment zone behind the ground we will be keen to ensure safe and clear access to the ground.
Nice to have this finally confirmed, although it’s a shame they dont as they could have made a lot out of it selling it to the final developers. The main access to the ground now will be part of the main access road as set out in the meeting, which means that its likely there will be a second junction into the ground at a later point from the existing road which will continue along the green fence boundary (this is a personal view from my experience in transport planning)
From this chat I think most at the meeting we happy that the club is playing its part and will as the process of developing the local area goes forward into making sure the things that are around the ground that may be changed are done in a way that helps the current access issues to the ground and does not mean a detrimental issue to the football club. This is a long term issue and im sure that little bits of this will be discussed time moves on again.
10 - Tickets – any changes to accommodate special offers during the season for potential low gate matches or a relegation battle?
There are currently no plans. We have the January transfer window coming up and we need to generate funds for the expenditure to come. We will not know about relegation battles until nearer the time and this is when any possible offers might be put forward. The view that halving prices doubles attendances does not work in reality and does not lead to increased revenue. It does not necessarily lead to new supporters who will then continue to attend at the full price. It can dilute the takings from existing fans. Some supporters see discounted price matches as of less value because of the opposition and do not come. Those fans asking for reductions have often not taken advantage of generous “early bird” season ticket offers where 10 matches are effectively free over the season. These can be paid for in instalments over the season.
Out of an average attendance of 5500 we have 3000 season ticket holders, around 750 family groups who benefit from existing ticket offers. There will be a ticketing review at the end of season where the issue of pensionable age and the differential between 16 and 17 year old prices will be discussed for next season. The Football League have to be informed about ticket offers before the season starts though there is a little leeway during the season as long as they agree. We encourage our fans to participate in the best deal of all and purchase a season ticket.
Positive to here that the club will review the issues we raised at the meeting about older and younger fans. Again a wait and see as to if this discussion means any changes. I was still disappointed that the club never took the fans feedback on what other clubs are doing re ticket offers to tempt new fans or old ones back... im sure they get around the FL rules somehow and the gesture to the fans it provides is welcome in this tough times. I kinda understand why, and I guess having raised the issue and made it clear that what other clubs are doing the club can do with that information what they want.
AOB.
Swearing
The club have had a complaint from a local resident about the amount of swearing and abusive chanting at matches that can be heard passing by as well as in the stadium. The club has assured them that it does all it can to reduce the impact of such behaviour through signage and advice from stewards, however the issue is not just confined to STFC – it is a universal issue in football.
What could fans reps say to this.... its football culture and its way better than it was at the old ground which effected more people!
Supporters Bar – discussion about the lack of a facility at the ground.
The club reiterated once again that there is nowhere to site a supporters bar in the existing facilities and that if new developments came forward at the club to extend the hospitality areas or fill in the corners then there would be room for discussion about a supporters bar possibly being incorporated into plans. The discussion moved to supporter groups combining to put together a proposal to either the Power Leagues or a local pub (Brooklands) to allow for a supporters bar (badge holder access) for home and away supporter club members. This will be taken on further by the supporter club reps for discussion and possible presentation to the venues.
Interesting chat between the bigger supporter groups (OSC, Superbles and the Trust) on this issue and where they could have a bar in the mean time until the ground is developed. Hopefully something comes of it to fans a “home base” where social activities can be arranged and take place... Long term I think most of us at the meeting have our eyes on a corner being filled in a nice big bar/social room. <

Supporter Groups Forum Meeting - 6
Tues 19th March 2013
AP is Andrew Pugh, General Manager of STFCMJ is Martin James, Head of Community Development at STFC
Original Meeting Notes on Shrewsweb - www.shrewsburytown.com/news/article/4apr13-supporter-groups-forum-meeting-751777.aspxGlyn Price Comments in Italics MJ - In future meetings will be organised on a bi-monthly first Tuesday in the month setting. Bearing in mind Tuesday night matches may result in movement to another day. Raised by OSC 1 - Another travel group are running cheap travel to Carlisle and Yeovil; they were planning on picking up at the football ground. Club views please?
MJ -The club have not been approached about this. We do not support picking up from the ground by any travel group. Only where travel is arranged through the club would be this allowed. Raised by SuperBlues 2- Season tickets have increased in price will match day prices for 2013/14 increase?
AP - Last year’s ST prices were frozen. The previous year rose by 2% in consideration of the Vat change from 17.5% to 20% which had not previously been recognised. For next year they will rise by a maximum of 5%, where have been conscious that the increasing costs experienced by STFC are also experienced by the supporters so we have kept any increase to a minimum. We have the retained the early bird season ticket (up to 8 matches free) and the Zebra finance offer to spread payments over 10 months with a very low interest rate (approx. £30 on the highest season ticket price). Match day pricing for next season has yet to be decided upon and will be part of the season’s end review. And we wait for the match day prices, which will have a big impact on how people view the clubs ticket price policy for next season I think. I personally think the EB offer is still good value, but as it increases, its defiantly worth the supporters groups pushing for more benefits. I guess the proof is in the pudding when we announce ST sales, if its disappointing, the issue will be revisited in these meetings no doubt. 3 - Concession discounts – Age 60 not 65 AP - There are variances between the offers from clubs in League One and Two. We have spoken to clubs and some are looking at increasing the age due to official retirement ages increasing. We have no plans to change at present. This will be part of our end of season review of ticket pricing. We have recognised requests from previous forums and as a result extended the Student rate to all 16-18 year olds for the early bird season ticket pricing, we have also changed the match day pricing to enable more fans to decide on the day whether to attend at the pre match price (this can also be utilised online)Great news about the student rate, something that was first raised in the last meeting and then changed in the next ticket price review, feels like progress. Older ticket prices, not so much progress, but it was also discussed that over the course of the year STFC/Fans groups will look at the league one/two prices and age categories and this can be used as part of the review next season. Good news about cheaper on the day ticket prices too something else that’s been discussed before and there is movement on. 4 - Away match ticket allocations seem to vary for Season ticket holders. Some clarification please? Also multiple away tickets purchased at the same time have sometimes been for different areas of the away stands at some matches. Stewards can insist that fans sit in designated seats which means apart from other members of the group AP- The allocation for the Season Ticket holders can vary depending on the total allocation for the match and the importance of the match e.g. if we have an allocation of 1800 tickets there is likely to be enough for all season ticket holders (who attend the away matches) to buy up to 5 and for there to still be enough for the remaining fans, however if there is only an allocation of 500 then the number may be reduced. If the supporters prefer we can restrict it for all matches so the Season Ticket holders have clarity. Season ticket holders (as with all fans) who are registered online, have the availability to allocate “friends and family” to their account enabling them to buy for the others allocated next to their name, this can sometimes give the impression they can buy more than their general allocation.
With regards the distribution of seats, not all clubs have the same technology as us and the way they are received by STFC can vary. Apart from going through all tickets received and sorting them in to the relevant rows and finding where isles are unfortunately we have very little option when it comes to allocation, we make our best efforts but some may be missed. The club are still getting to grips with this I think, as there is no consistent message coming about exactly how many tickets for away games ST holders can buy. It needs to be in clear. This response helps to set out that it fluctuates, but it should be clear that for all ticket games at a place with restricted capacity this comes down to one and its first come first served for ST holders. Not much the club can do about seat distribution. < Raised by B and A 5 - Season Tickets
What’s the Reason for such an early cut off on Earl Bird Prices? (There are a lot of fans who would like the season to finish and save for a season ticket.)
AP -The cut-off date is actually the same as last year. People’s perception may be it gets earlier. Last year the date was extended a little to take into consideration Easter and paydays. Sales reflect the success of the team on the field. Last year there was a heavy uptake of the early bird offer as promotion was on the horizon. This year the uptake so far is comparable to the 2010/11 season. So no slow down in uptake compared to comparable years, but the final figures not announced yet. We shall see the fin al numbers, but think there was certainly a lot of renewals on Wednesday/Thursday.
6 - Direct Debit – Other clubs allow fans to pay for the ST by direct Debit (Doncaster for example) and as such avoid the need for credit checks. Direct debits are much more customer friendly so why can’t STFC offer this?
AP- The club use the Zebra finance package for several reasons. It was sourced to be an economically viable offer for supporters and to be a low risk option for the club. The club receive the money for the season at the time of taking out the finance package. It protects the club from supporters cancelling direct debits. Club administration of a direct debit system would be financially prohibitive.
I thought as much and the club have been stung with this before, so no surprise there not willing to take on the risk again. We asked though!
7 - Finances – A little more on the reasons for such a loss. Is this something the club can sustain or are worried about? AP- The loss is an accounting loss not a cash loss, without wanting to bore everyone on accounting policies, depreciation and amortisation accounted for £241,679 in the period, with the cash situation actually showing an increase of £67,855. I would encourage anyone looking at the accounts to review the cashflow statement rather than just the overall profit/ loss in isolation. Cracking news, and the discussion turned to getting the message out there, to combat some rather unhelpfull press headlines. Read that above again, there is actually though the magic of accounting positive news out of the figures. I was discussed that promotion bonuses played a part in the accounted loss, something I had kinda not considered. 8 - Other than that updates on the usual things, only if there is progress - Access, SB Way, Ticket Review, Half time entertainment MJ - The only thing to report here is the changes to half time entertainment. At the Oldham and Bournemouth matches the community coaches will have kids on the pitch at half time playing 5 a side football. These children are from Community courses and schools engaging the community coaches. Secondly the Cheer leader group is under formation. Auditions have taken place and nearly 70 youngsters are now signed up for the development squad through the community and Topaz Dance School. They will perform pre-match and half time from next season as well as representing the club at events around the county.
Well after banging on the wall about half time entertainment involving local schools competitions, with trophies and pride to play for, seems like we are heading in the right direction.
Be interesting to see how the cheer leaders work, I suspect its not the up the street of many of the normal fans, but its certainly encouraging to see how many kids have been engaged by the project and brought into the club. Fingers crossed its not another uptown girls! Raised by ShrewsTrust 9 - Recent change in structure of the Football Club.
Is this the first step into separating ownership of the Ground and the Football Club?AP- The simple answer is no! 10 - Fans choice for a new home strip competition Was there a poor handling of choices?MJ -This was supporter led initiative. Over 100 designs were submitted. These were sorted into similar design effects e.g. stripes, hoops, diagonals etc. Some had to be discounted as they were too elaborate to be able to manufacture without excessive costs. Five were short listed for public vote as most popular design styles. The club took account of the early voting and comments made directly to the club and indirectly through contacts about the range of designs on offer many of which were negative. The two least popular designs were then replaced with two others from the original submission. The club received more favourable responses on the new five designs and the vote was completed. The winning design will be announced in due course, as we are in discussions with the kit suppliers about final design specifications and manufacture, but a date has yet to be decided upon, but is unlikely to be before the end of the season. In MY view it could have been handled better, the kit designs like what we have this year were just discounted, but that was not clear at the design stage. However the club are right this was led by fans, all the designs were fan designs, and someone will be able to say they designed the town kit for 2013/14. Hopefully the idea remains, as its something that involves fans in a key decision at the club. It would be nice for fans to be part of the panel that sifts through the ideas and comes up with a short list, just for that extra transparency, but that’s for next time I guess? 11 - Is this and opportunity to ‘re-brand’, change the badge?
MJ - Discussion again was held in the meeting and a reminder was given that the club have come out and officially said that a re-branding of the club will take place in the future and that supporters would be involved in badge design. This is not the time for that re-branding to take place.
A large discussion happened again on this with a lot of fans reps discussion the whys and wherefores again, and being firm in the stance that this “wont go away”. I’m happy the club are firmly aware of the stance of each supporters group, including the Bringbacktheloggerheads groups, and that its something that they are not kicking in to touch 100%, but its still something that is in long term strategic decisions that they will make. One things for sure when the time comes and the fans have there input, it will create a lot of different ideas, and as a fan base may cause conflict. We better not mess it up when it does happen! 12 - Use of facilities at the Greenhous Meadow. Clarification of the review of hospitality venue use and potential impact on community exposure after Slimming World ?AP/MJ - The club reviewed the use of its hospitality facilities and decided that it could not warrant the long term block booking of any part of the facilities for the future. We need to be flexible in our response to the very varied customer base we serve and their needs. We have some clients who book every box, room and suite for a day. We also need to maximise the revenue from our whole hospitality facility and long term booking of a suite at a very low price (which we lose money on servicing) is restrictive on our booking practice. Despite the initial poor publicity caused by the Slimming World story we have had good bookings from other community based organisations. The club will keep its own counsel on the SW events and the way it has been reported. 13 - Supporters Liaison Officer. How the role is carried out at Shrewsbury Town? MJ - The SLO for the club is Martin James. Supporter liaison officers (SLOs) are a bridge between the fans and the club and help to improve the dialogue between the two sides. Their work is dependent on the information they receive from both sides and the credibility they enjoy with both parties. The SLO informs fans about relevant decisions made by the club management and, in the other direction, communicates the points of view of fans to the club management. The SLO builds relationships not just with various fan groups and initiatives but also with the police and security officers. At the club Alan Roberts, Safety Officer works with Martin to engage with SLOs of other clubs before matches to contribute to supporters behaving in accordance with security guidelines. The Q and A to the club, direct emailing and letters, and the Supporter Groups Forum are ways in which dialogue with the fans can be supported. This is supplemented by personal contact through telephone or in the car park or in the concourse chats about concerns of supporters. I think its fair to say the club is more open, approachable then for a long time since the move to the new ground, and cooperate face draped over the club initially. Fans reps praised Martin for the roll he’s taken on and the job he’s done since joining the club. To have a fan of the club in this roll has helped immeasurably… many of us there have been at games home and away with him for a long time before he joined the club, so its clear martin has the view of the fans at heart, and attempts to balance this with the needs/resources of the club. 14 Community Sports Trust/ shrewsTRUST and the potential to work together?
MJ welcomed this and advised contact to be made with Lee Pugh the Community Development Manager 15 - Fans representation/ club relationship in general Chairman has commented that club would rather talk to one body. Would the club support that body being a constituted body such as a Supporters Trust? MJ said that it was his own view that the supporters may be better served by an umbrella “Supporters Association” which encompassed all of the existing groups. Fans may be unsure at present which group to join, what they stood for, what the differences were between them? His view was that there would be the potential for increased membership, attracting new volunteers with skills to bring to the organisation. Each individual group has its strengths in fund-raising, away travel, supporter events etc. and these could be brought under one roof so to speak. Clear accounting of finances and the constitution of the group could be easily available to supporters. The club respects the efforts of the existing groups and the benefits they have brought to the supporters and the club. The club encouraged the individual groups to meet and open dialogue about potential partnerships going forward.
The supporter groups spoke of a need to get together to discuss a possible way forward towards some form of “association” Interesting conversation mainly lead by the Trust, and something that’s now gone back to each groups membership (hence the email on B and A, and subsequent discussion). Next stage is various meetings and something B and A will be involved in, and something I will update about on this thread. 17 - Investing in the football club? Does the club welcome investment from individuals and interested fans groups such as the Trust?
AP- The football club welcomes investment of many different forms, and there are many ways that both individuals and organisations can contribute other than through shares. AP talked through the process of the change in the company from PLC to Limited Company and explained the reasons behind it and emphasised that shareholders would not be disadvantaged. PLC is confusing to many people we are Shrewsbury Town FC we are not BP, Marks and Spencer’s or Tesco with shares traded on the stock exchange where investors buy these shares looking for capital growth or dividends rather we are a football club and supporters buy our shares to support their local football club not as an investment. In fact STFC were the only PLC in Leagues 1 & 2 Three others are all Ex-top flight current Championship clubs of the 72 Football League clubs. Share issue – expensive, not needed at present. On order to perform a share issue STFC would need to be looking at raising ‘000’s of thousands for it to be viable, this is not currently within our plans.
18 - What happens to relinquished shares? AP- There are actually very few relinquished shares, many are passed from generation to generation as many shareholders hold very few shares (sub 200). Where shares are relinquished they are offered to existing shareholders first before being open to the wider base. 19 - What thoughts do the club they have on other income streams they would consider the trust supporting? AP asked what the Trust is able to support. He would be willing to explore avenues that the Trust came up with. The Trustrepresentatives said they would come back to him after consultation. AOB It was agreed that the individual groups should bring to the Forum information about what they were doing in the near future so that more exposure could be given to events etc, possible help from other groups. Comments were made about some supporters occupying the West Stand toilets for illicit smoking, the stewards would be told to be more vigilant in future. Also that many fans were entering the toilets via the exit doors. It was requested that stewards could stand by the exit doors at half time to deter this practice.

Some good ideas here,
For my feedback as the rep
The badge, is part of the question I always ask, Update on issues from last meeting of which the badge is one...
As for youth team on the pitch, nice idea, and something that could be asked, but I suspect logistically its a problem, IE we only have the one set of home away changing rooms I think (I could be wrong?) Also we are VERY precious about the pitch/playing surface and it took a long battle just to get the kids playing football at half time back on there which will be running again next season from what we have been told.
Statue Idea, several thoughts on this, and something I will ask, but likely need to be supporter lead initiative, but might ask club about fund matching... to be honest it needs someone to find out how much it might cost? Also did Rowleys family not state that they did not want one..
Casino idea, bit mad that...If someone is really that passionate about it, please send that directly to the club, as far as I can see that's just one persons idea ATM...
Goal Music, will add this to the agenda too... its been do it don't do it for a long time, some people like it some don't.. Personally I don't like it... but might be worth running a poll on this one before I take anything to the club...
Finally there is no meeting scheduled, we agreed to go Bi Monthly I think so might not be long, and will be soon as the club like to discuss the open day stuff..
Oh and Open day... thoughts on this from the fan base... what would you like to see... that would be something constructive to take to the club... anything that B and A members could sort and run?
Also Kit Price is another to add to list when meeting comes around

Pre season games, along with the JPT trophy game last year, was there any need to waste resources having all the stands open? Its a waste of electricity and human resources having both the west and south stands open. Its also made for a poor atmosphere. I hope I. Future that the club does close one of the West or South stands when an attendance is sub 3,000. There is no need for such waste.

Supporter Groups Forum Meeting - 718th June 2013Original Meeting Notes on Shrewsweb - www.shrewsburytown.com/news/article/4apr13-supporter-groups-forum-meeting-751777.aspxGlyn Price Comments in Italics General Issues - Key for the Club 1. Open Day Martin asked all of the reps present if they could give some thought and ask for help with ideas for and voluntary support for the Open Day. The objective is to have a larger, more inclusive programme of activities staged outside of the stadium for the most part. The Power Leagues will be involved too and we have the community coaches lined up to do some sports games with youngsters. We are looking for information on activity providers e.g. inflatables, clowns, jugglers, climbing walls, giant games for adults and kids, music groups like a steel band etc. We want to make the activities free so we are asking contributors with activities to offer their services for free with the knowledge that they can advertise their services to large numbers of people for future bookings. All groups have asked about helping out. Ideas please and support for the day, please to Martin at the club. The potential date is Sunday 28th July. Sounded like a decent different approach to the open day, with more of a fete vibe to it. I put up a thread on B and A pointing people in the direction of the club for assistance. If anyone from B and A has anything else to offer, please contact Martin. Put forward the assistance of a couple of B and A members (through the fanzine) to assist with running a competition, but yet to hear back if required. 2. Kit update All groups have asked about an update on the new kit. Richard Hill reported back. Large suppliers such as Adidas often want to take over club shops completely and only stock their own merchandise. We wish to have independence to provide a range of products and price ranges. The contract for the new supplier was a 9 month process in which we engaged with 7 suppliers initially. These were reduced to the best three. We discussed what they would do for the club, for example gift of kit. Joma were one of the three. We had a three year deal which was ending. Joma had benefitted by getting their brand out there in the league structure with us. Our deal meant that we had a minimum order of 3000 shirts and this meant we were left with unsold stock at the end of a season. Despite communication and stock control we also had issues with the quality of the products with many complaints especially about the stitching. A higher quality of kit was needed for the players and fans alike. The contract with Surridge allows us to order in batches of 500. We will have a bespoke kit designed to the specifications given to them, again something larger companies only provide to clubs who will sell tens of thousands of shirts. The home shirt will reflect the winning design sent in and voted on by the fans. The contract also includes the bonus of the sponsorship of the West Stand which means more investment in the club Surridge can be flexible in the production of bespoke products for us, allowing greater flexibility to satisfy demand.. Some examples of football shirts, polo shirts and a track suit were handed round to the members to inspect with pleasing responses. It is clear that the change to surridge was not a last minute thing and this was a deal that had been worked on. Personally I found the kit that were handed around (Bury) not bad put not great, its hard to compare to what we might end up with as the Bury one is just plain white! They looked ok but felt heavy to me (more of a Cricket style fabric). We shall see what we end up with, but they were certainly better made than JOMA. The training wear presented was decent though to be honest. 3. Pre-season fixtures? Details? Pricing structure? Andrew Pugh, General Manager, reported that at the time of the meeting fixtures against Bolton and Birmingham City had been confirmed and they would be sold at £10 per adult and £5 for concessions. Other potential fixtures were likely to be higher than this due to the level of the opposition and associated costs that had to be paid to them but he hoped they would not be full prices. As we know that that big game has been announced and priced at £15. Personally its not too bad and could have been worse. 4. Electronic cigarettes/ smoking at half time outside stadium Alan Roberts , Safety Officer, stated that electronic cigarettes had been banned from the stadium during last season and that this ban would remain in force .He had attended West Midlands and National Conferences on safety at stadia and the general consensus was for banning the electronic cigarettes. The common reasons found around the country are that there is a perception by supporters who see someone smoking an e-cigarette from a distance that they are smoking a real cigarette and so they will light up. This then causes problems in their area of the stadium and stewards have to intervene. In addition Alan said that he was prepared to look at opening up certain gates at the stadium to allow smokers to go out at half time for a cigarette break. He would take advice from the Safety Advisory Group who advise on stadium issues. Restricted points would need be used to reduce the removal of too many stewards from their posts. The success of the trials would lay firmly in the court of the supporters as their behaviour and understanding of simple rules applied would be necessary. After seeking advice Alan will identify those simple rules in advance of the games through the club media channels. Not much to say, a common sense solution to what most considered to be a minor problem. Great to see Alan coming up with ideas though and prepared to give them a go. E-Cigs, sounds more and more like town may have jumped the cun banning them, but it was something that’s become standard practice and most clubs will have by the start of the season.5. Unreserved seating for pre-season matches?
Andrew Pugh answered a question about whether there could be un-reserved seating around the ground. In his reply he said there was as much support for un-reserved as reserved seating. There needed to be designated seating for families and groups of supporters. Occasionally individuals ask stewards if they can move within a stand to be with friends or even move from the West to South Stand for example. The club use a common sense approach to this allowing individuals but certainly not a mass movement between stands. It also depends upon the popularity of the match and space available. The simple answer is for fans to ask if they can move seats either at the time of purchasing e.g. if they have season ticket for a particular seat and want to move for a match or once inside the stadium. Again, was not considered to be a massive issue, when we don’t sell games out. The days of un reserved seating are gone, and to be honest its never really that much of an issue when people when the ground is half full just do it adhoc anyway. Blue and Amber Glyn Price6. Goal Music We did a snap poll – Yes or no and out of 82 fans 61 (72%) stated that they would rather not have it (13 for) . If this is reflective of the fan base can we just go back to the sound of fans cheering? The club are in favour of dropping the goal celebration music too so it will stop. Boom – Result – Quite simply this took all of about 60 seconds to resolve. Up to the fans now to show that the atmpshere of a goal celebration is much better and louder than some awful music!
7. Statue at the stadium – not something we have discussed before, but what are the clubs official thoughts on this? If Fans fundraised would club contribute, where would be the best locations, and are the fans right in assuming that Rowley’s family would not want a statue? The proposal for a full sized statue of a legend (Arthur Rowley?) was raised. It may cost many tens of thousands of pounds for bronze sculpture and fans could be asked if they would contribute to fund raising. The club were asked if they would contribute? Discussion was had around a greater spread of supporters being able to be involved rather than just through the traditional supporter groups. Such a proposal would need careful thought, consultation and planning to enable a structured fund-raising programme to be devised. Costings are vital. It was suggested that perhaps busts of the legends might work out as a cheaper alternative and be more attractive to supporters rather than all monies raised going into one project. Raising enough money for a bust would take less time. This topic was one to take forward to a club/supporter consultation. For the record, this is something that I was taking a lead on, and you may have seen the latest idea of portrait statues on B and A. This is ongoing. To enable any meaningful discussion at the next meeting (or separate meetings) I need detailed costing, for the range of options, and other details to enable all parties to agree a way forward. A medium term scheme. Also as in the meeting notes, its not to step on anyone’s toes of other groups, but this is something I feel through B and A that fans want and are passionate about, and as such could be arranges, and fundraised through independent channels. 8. Update on the Badge issues keyser soze was welcomed to the meeting as representative of the group who are campaigning for a return to the loggerheads style of badge for the club. He said that the issue of the badge would not go away and that there was a lot of support for change. He put forward the example of Everton changing their badge to a more modern style and then fans complaining and after consultation it was decided that they will return to the original badge at the end of the season. He raised the concern that disaffected supporters were planning to produce a badged shirt of their own and this would take sales away from the club. He hoped there was a way forward through discussion with the club and asked if there was a time frame for change. It was asked whether the club would like the supporters to carry out a survey? Martin James said this was something that should not be done on an isolated issue, but as part of a wider consultation about the supporter’s impressions of the club. He would refer to this later. Some of the representatives present expressed support for the idea of a return to a loggerheads design others preferred the existing badge or held no preference and this was perceived to be the crux of the matter that there was not a consensus of opinion though some evidence had been gathered as Geoff put forward. Andrew Pugh said that no time scale for change could be promised at present. The issue here was that we should be talking about a “future re-branding” rather than a “return to the loggerheads”. Consultation needed to be had between the club with as many supporters as possible going forward. This would lead to a popular decision when any new brand was decided upon. That may be a loggerheads design or incorporated in a new more complex design or whatever the supporters and club decided through consultation and design. A collective discussion led to several interesting ideas and comments being made which help to identify ways forward. A question was raised whether Surridge could produce bespoke retro-polo shirts with any of the 10 badges that Shrewsbury had played under in its history. It would make commercial sense for fans to be able to buy retro produce from the club shop Richard Hill said that they would look into this and other possible ways of introducing “retro-style” merchandise. Finding out which past badges broke copyright rules could be researched as there have been issues between the Shrewsbury Council and users of their loggerheads logo in the past. It was suggested that the loggerheads with “Floreat Salopia” was not copyrighted? One member of the group said it was time to sit down in a professional, constructive manner to stop bickering and mud-slinging etc.to engage with the club in a consultative way. Martin James said that this was a positive way forward as confrontation leads to entrenched positions and would not lead to progress. It leads to frustrations. He said there needed to be a review of how the club and the supporters should work together on a far-reaching consultation process covering a wide range of issues, of which the badge is one, which he would return to later in the meeting. To all that say the club are stonewalling the issue, please read the above. There is clear motion from the club that if they are engaged now both the groups and the club will work towards the goal of re-branding. Its clear a next step is match day surveys and a collection of the thoughts and feelings of the supports base in general. I look forward to seeing how this progresses.9. Decoration on the outside of the ground. Could be large flags/pendants hanging down representing the legends? Does not have to be all done at once, get them over the years. Like what Arsenal had outside the ground. Would smarten the look of the stadium up and give it a talking point of interest? This was certainly a very effective way of showing off the history of a club, legends, favourite occasions etc. The idea fits in well with a view to decorating the concourse walls, hanging banners etc which could form part of a long term strategy to represent the history of the club. Martin James said this was an excellent idea which could get a lot of supporters involved as other clubs had success in these ventures and the result was a much more welcoming stadium. Sounds like this was something the club were already looking at. No firm proposals, but clear that it will be engaging fans down the line over specific ideas. Again not something that will disappear off the agenda, and certain to be discussed next time with more clarity. Shrewstrust and OSC had raised support for the Open Day and the kit update as questions for the agenda. Super Blues 10. Age limit for concessions should be 60 not 65 (11 clubs in league 1 last season were 60). Andrew Pugh said we had covered this issue at a previous meeting. The club had decided to support a move to reducing prices for young adults at this stage as they were felt to be in most need in this economic climate where many are students or without work. Clubs in the league are still re-assessing the qualification age for older concessions so the figures were not as clear as stated. The club has no plans to change the age limit for next season. The super blues member knew this had been raised before and wasn't expecting any change this season he wanted to demonstrate the results of his research on the subject so the matter wouldn't be forgotten for next season. It was covered in a previous meeting, but on a personal level was pleased to see the better deal going to younger fans who we want to keep than older fans. It makes sense to me, but clearly has annoyed a number of the older generation and understandably so. 11. Car parking at Sutton Grange and Greenhous Meadow update.
There is a waiting list for places at the Greenhous Meadow, though on one occasion due to the snow all the people who parked at Sutton Grange were accommodated at Greenhous Meadow. This was because there were few sponsors and a reserved area was able to be freed up. We have found out after the meeting that Sutton Farm car park will be available for the whole of the 2013/14 season. So business as usual. Just to add, parking passes are now for sale on the Shrewsbury Town Website. 12. Improvements are needed for club shop? The representative questioned the size of the shop and the range of products available. Richard Hill said the shop was the size we had to work with it would not be extended in the near future. He said that the regularity of change of stock would be more frequent next season and the range of products was being reviewed, including smaller items. The on-line shop had seen sales increase to a position where it represents 20% of total sales (increasing from 10% the year before) He said he was using sports shops in town to sell some products as we could not contemplate our own outlet as the costs would be prohibitive. He was also looking at enquiring whether other shops would sell our products with little overheads for the club. All good things, particularly about the online shop, which is something that the club could benefit greatly from a revamped stoke listing. Like the idea of a town center shop assisting the club. They were primarily looking a sports shops, and then we discussed the idea of one of the many gift shops in town stocking STFC gift products. Gives us a “space” in town and a foothold on people who would never get to the ground for gift type things for birthdays/Christmas. Weather it can ever be achieved in this retail environment is something Richard Hill will be working hard on. 13. Why is there no availability of tickets for away games after 2-00pm?The club said that it was policy to stop selling future match tickets on match day at 2pm to ensure that the operatives were concentrating on quickly dealing with those who were wishing to purchase for that days match so they could get in before the kick off. The ticket office is open up to 2pm and then after the match for future match sales. Pre-booked tickets could be collected from the collection point up to kick off time. Nothing really to add, Makes sense, and happens at most other clubs. 14. Loyalty Points, starting season with clean sheets? Yes. Loyalty points have already been reset to zero. The only ones who will have points are season ticket and sovereign holders who will have 23 points to their account (works out at 1 point per game) and also Super Blues members who have 12 points. Remember, get your supporters number. This season we have a few big games and if it becomes all ticket, they will be using the “more than x points” system again. If you cant prove you went to the games and have that many points, really by now its not the clubs fault. Any time you get a ticket just register at the club and each time you come back get the next tickets (home and away) on your supporters number. Works online as well. The process is out there, everyone just needs to make sure they are doing it right. 15. Match day experience – working with supporters.Martin James raised this as a topic for conversation. After the discussions earlier had incidentally highlighted where club/supporter discussions could lead to positive actions being taken to benefit both parties. Martin said that he had been working on a plan to move supporter/club engagement to a new level and had received the Board’s support to move this forward. He had visited other clubs and been to meetings where ideas and best practice had been discussed on how to grow the relationship between a club and its fan base. Together so many of the issues that are raised by supporters could be sorted and the club would benefit from greater and wider support in promoting the club matches and off field activities. He indicated a desire to set up a Supporter/club communication group similar to that of the fan parliament at Wolvers where supporters representing all sections of the fan base e.g. disabled, family, young adult, senior citizens etc. could be present. To take a place in such a group supporters would have to apply and be seen not to represent a particular agenda, but to have a more holistic approach to the whole supporter/club relationship. We need supporters who are prepared to take part in discussions, support initiatives that come from those discussions and galvanise supporters into actively helping the club move forward. The club would benefit from a survey of supporters to look at what the club does well, not so well, what the club means to them, views on the match day experience, issues such as support for re-branding of the club etc. The results of which would help the supporter/club group to discuss positive ways forward to improve various aspects and to introduce new initiatives that may arise from supporter/club suggestions. A structured and directed line of questions would need to be planned out in order to get the best possible feedback. Supporters could help to manage this survey. Martin mentioned a few of the ways that a supporter/club discussion group could aid the match day experience. These included ideas on developing the decoration of the concourses and outside walls of the stadium to reflect the club history. “Meeters and Greeters” – supporters who help on match day to welcome new fans and guide them around. Pre-match activities to get supporters to the ground earlier including fun activities for adults and children – staffed by supporters. Half time activities. Competitions to raise awareness of STFC. Signage at the stadium. Stories including real fans views. The club are wishing to develop the discussions with supporters building on the success of the Supporter Groups Forum. This will now be a focus for the near future. Interested to see how this would work and it would seem there would be some sort of elections to the position on the parliament, which is sure to be a fun and interesting event if it happens. I do wonder if it means some of us at the meetings currently might be left out, which may not be a good thing as there are some passionate people trying to good things, but we shall see. Like the meeters and greeters idea. Summary All in all another good meeting with plenty of positives. It was also confirmed that the kit design competition will valid for the new deal with surridge. These mid summer meetings are sometimes not the ones that get the most actioned, but this one did open up a number of channels with the club they are now willing to engage on and move forward with (parliament, brightening up the stadium, fan engagement, the badge and rebranding, and retro merchandise). That’s a decent result for a couple of hours of discussion.

The question about Directors raised by the Trust was one that I discussed with them in the Darwin. I am not a member as it happens, but I’m glad that others who are members seem interested in this side of things.
When I was involved in the Trust and had meetings with the Club and Chairman it was made perfectly clear that to have any sort of say in how the Club was run you had to invest money, the reply suggests that this may have changed, well that’s nice...
To my knowledge James Hughes has been called a puppet once on this message board, by one person that I know of. Maybe once is unacceptable, but still it is a stick to beat supporters with.
I accept that people who invest in something are not necessarily involved in the decision making process, fine but the Club is still lacking suitable investors. Why isn’t the Club attractive to potential local investors despite the current economic climate which we are told is improving?
Nice to see long term Club servant and friend of the Chairman Mal Starkey is involved in making executive decisions.
We all except that the Club has been shrewd in recent times and we are all aware of the fact of Wrexham, Chester, and Portsmouth. However if football clubs where really “...subject to review and regulation from the FA, Football League and other organisations which audit and monitor its governance.” Then the former examples may not have happened.
Just thinking out loud like.

I thought that about James Hughes. One post ever in amongst hundreds of posts a day had made that comment.
Now it's a big drama, but it does highlight a few issues.
No matter how many times they say they ignore it STFC must follow B&A with a fine toothcomb.
If that is a cause of such offence then why highlight it to be discussed more? Now anyone wanting a dig at the club knows their Achilles heel. People ranting who don't even know who James Hughes is can chuck it in as a throw away jibe.
It almost feels like they are raking the place for evidence of nasty fans in some sort of tit for tat exercise.
Roland was very offended by a comment on B&A about his heart that no-one could even remember. Apparently it upset family members who thought he actually had a heart problem. Well over a year later it was still a cause of consternation, yet no-one I know who is involved with this messageboard has any recollection of what he was talking about.

Dave, my first ever meeting with the Chairman as a member of the Trust was mostly spent listening to Marcus explain to him comments that had been made on B & A. That was after him asking how much money the Trust was going to put in the Club.
This is when I realised I (and the Trust) was wasting my/its time.

"promotion to League One followed by the clubs highest league position, 16th in League One for around 30 years"
What a shocking inaccurate comment from the club on their official website

I would have thought promoting and supporting the club in a way that encourages others to become supporters and thus raise the clubs regular income is more important than buying a seat on the board with a 1 off investment although this is also very welcome......... There are not many who have the spare funds to donate (or lend via the purchase of shares) but wouldn't it be better to welcome anyone or any group prepared to put in time to increase the awareness and support of the club which generates an ongoing income stream and perhaps should entitle them to a say (like the trust)? Seems a little shortsighted to say only people with a bung available can 'buy' a say in how the club is run
