Started his career here in a blaze of glory and looked like he was going to be a bit of a legend............ to see a tall guy doing step overs and with an electric burst of space was unusual to say the least. But his sending off at Torquay seemed to dent his confidence and the fans confidence in him. He didnt finsh the season too well and his pre season has been interrupted with niggles. He is one of the few to walk away with any credit from his sub's appearance at Oxford and apparently played well v Wolves this week. GT describes his prospects as "outstanding" in the latest Splayer interview and with Regan's injury, it looks like he may start at RB tomorrow. But will the boo boys give him a chance I wonder?

Definite footballer in there somewhere, as a right back im unconvinced tho its area that still worries me greatly this season.

Will GT make just 1 change in the back 4 or be brave and make 2......
I think Jacobson is a cert and based on that does he stick with three experienced defenders alongside by just shoving them all 1 place along or does he drop 1 other along with the injured Regan and go for a back 4 with 2 full backs who have had little football at all this season.
Interesting decision to be made

Intresting to note that Grandison played centre half alongside Connor Goldson v Wolves both doing very well apparantly

Interesting decision to be made GT has to bite the bullet with the defence sooner rather than later even if it means risking a very green unit for a couple of games. SCS has filled in OK at LB but in pre season looked sharp in the middle and should now return there. Jacobsen is a natural LB, a good one by all accounts and needs games desparately. Looks like Grandison will get the RB spot and for all his unpredictability, his pace there my get us out of a few scrapes. That leaves a decision between Hazel (who has done OK) or captain Sharps (who is struggling). Difficult decision as you say

I like GG, never went to the Torquay game and have missed a couple of his stinkers, but hes one of those rare players you can get excited about. Certinly raw abilty there, and has shown us some really intriguing glimpses... if he gets the chance I hope he takes it and does well.

I don't think Hazell or Sherriff have done enough to warrant them being dropped yet, there's options available though.
Assuming Regan's unavailable:
Hazell-Sharps-Sherriff-Jacobson
Grandison-Hazell-Sharps-Sherriff
Grandison-Hazell-Sherriff-Jacobson
Are probably the three most likely options

Hazell-Sharps-Sherriff-Jacobson
THIS - Frankely the guy from office whos an Oldham fans rates Hazell as a better right back than center back anyway. Sharps and Sherrif were decent in all but a handfull of games at centerback and the new lad deserves a chance.

It'd be a bit risky though. When you look are the defensive options on paper which got some real quality for L2, just need to get the combinations and confidence right. I agree with those who think there's summat about Grandison. It was right he was dropped last season as his confidence was shot but generally I'd rather watch a young player with potential develop and accept the odd error than watch a below par journeyman. I've only seen Regan vs Oxford - hope he's better than that normally.

First few games he was very raw, he was doing step-overs and making mistakes, the difference was he was then getting the ball straight back and it was entertaining so the fans liked it
However in the Torquay game he made mistakes and wasnt getting the ball back so fans turned on him. You could see his confidence drain
My biggest frustration with him though is his very lax attitude in closing players down, Torquay's second goal being a prime example

Sharps should be dropped after the 2 recent games. At blame for goals conceded against Burton and Oxford.

The future: Grandison centre back, Goldson centre mid.
Tomorrow: Who knows?

Having seen all competitive matches so far this season, apart from Oxford, i feel that Sharps needs to be rested (dropped). My back four against Crewe would be ;
Hazell ( who is reported to play well and is comfortable in this position) Grandison SCS Jacobson.
I'm a fan of Grandison and feel that he will turn out to be a great player for us. Why we continue to slate our young players over a few bad games beggars belief. Yes, his confidence was shot after the Torquay game, but pouring scorn on him will not get him to play better. Goldson may be a cental midfield player eventually, but having seen him play a few times, i'm sure he will turn out to be a class act. Would not be surprised to see him move on eventually for big money.

Why do you even bother with a post like that? The lad is far from the finished article but has pace, some skills and knows how to control a football, where and when to use these is what he is still to learn but nothing some decent coaching and a bit more experience can sort. I'm sure I could find a post somewhere where you have declared him to be the next Pele in a concise and totally unsubstantiated manner but I really can't be @rsed with trawling through all that garbage.........................

Thing is we don't want defenders to have flair - we expect solid no nonsense sensible stuff from them.
Mr Grandison by the nature of his play is to me not a natural defender.
Whatever happens it will be interesting.

Thought he had a decent game yesterday but he frustrates me at times
A couple of minutes to go and Ainsworth has the ball on around the halfway line, Grandison comes bombing forwards and overlaps Ainsworth. However the ball is then lost and Crewe counter attack us down their left with Grandison nowhere to be seen. In the end Sharps came across and managed to clear it but I deliberately kept an eye on Grandison who was just gently jogging back, seemingly with no desire to get back to his position. Whether its down to fitness or just his attitude Im not sure but could be costly

put him in right or center mid and he will do well because he can tackle sometimes and is very good at getting forward not a defender tho at all because he dosent get back quickly and if you watch him he is never there when needed

Thought Grandison had a good game with a few nice touches and passes.
He visibly tired in the last 20 minutes ----------- he has not played too much football afterall.

Ainsworth duly lost possession and of course Grandison was out of position. Not his fault, unless we want our full backs to stay in their own half. Thought he had a good game against Crewe. Excellent prospect.
