as one of the supporters that tries to get the atmosphere going and sings with every song starting some of them I'm personally insulted by some of these comments. banter with the away fans is good and gets the fans up for supporting the team.
if your not happy with the song choices either start some songs yourself or create some songs that us that actually put the effort in can start off. in a ideal world we would be in block 17 but that's not possible.
i think 80% of people in blocks 18/19 sit there not because the away fans but because that's where everyone else that sings sits. i started off at the new ground in block 17 and if i ever tried to join in i would get weird looks off people and got to told to **** off over there if i want to sing. i think that there is alot more people that would sing if we was in block 17 because people wouldn't feel suppressed when wanting to sing.

yeah but i don't see how a dumb song like 'sit down you paedophille' is supporting the team, nor 'going bust, going bust'.

It's not the best, but better than most.

yeah but i don't see how a dumb song like 'sit down you paedophille' is supporting the team, nor 'going bust, going bust'. Thirded. There's nothing wrong with a bit of banter with the away supporters but there's being relevant and then there's singing about paedophiles. Thankfully the 'your sister is your mother, your father is your brother' effort has been thrown on the scrapheap. I think it was mildly funny at first in its original form when we played Telford but such renditions of it since have been tedious to say the least. My particular favourite was 'the Stanley family' that was aired when we played Accrington last season. Maybe I missed the point but I don't know of many families from the 'Stanley' area and unless Craig Stanley was playing, I didnt see the logic of that one. When we played Oxford on the last day of the season I felt genuinely embarrassed for the Oxford fans because every song they sang was directed at Swindon. Nothing like an inferiority complex. Stick to singing about your team, we're not bitter, we're not Man City, we aint Hereford.

Traditionally the 'hardcore' support has tended to come from behind the goal, you're definately right with what you say. Look at the Stretford End, The Kop, Bootham End at Stoke, the north stand at Poljud in Split. Then again on the flip side, it was always the Riverside where the majority of the 'singers' stood back in the good old days. Maybe its a Shrewsbury thing. The singing at the Meadow, I think that was more to do with the fact the Wakeman End wasn't covered, because Town fans use to be in the Station End where they used to do the singing from and the away fans used to be Wakeman/Riverside mixed in with the non singing town fans. That was before segregation really came in.

Everyone is repeating the same thing on here, if you dont rate the atmosphere, and you dont like some of the songs, some of which i agree with, then why sit in silence at home games then come on here and complain? Come in block 18/19 and start your own songs, thats the only way it will change if it ever will, if anyone on here believes block 18/19 will stop singing songs like the ones posted above JUST because some people on a forum dont want them to, your very deluded, they only thing you can do is either start your own songs in 18/19 and refuse to join in with the ones you dont like, or try and create atmosphere somewhere else.
As someone who goes away very regularly, i can confidently say we make a better atmosphere at home then a lot of home sides in this league, of the top of my head i can name several teams who barely broke into a song at their own ground last season, Macclesfield, Cheltenham, Crewe, Northampton, Rotherham, Burton. Some of them teams literally didnt even sing a song whatsoever! Thats without thinking too hard about it. Personally i enjoy the match experience home and away, i usually come home without much of a voice left so it doesnt really bother me if other people dont rate our vocal support, i just think people need to realise we are a 4th division team, in a league where a lot of sides dont sing at home at all, away fans will always be more passionate and vocal so its obvious in a tidy away end like ours, away fans will always compete with our levels of noise.
