Why would it cause trouble? As long as the people who park there are decent enough to have a drink inside, parking has been free at the Darwin for most of the last 4 years, the one time they started to charge a fiver for parking was the time they started to lose custom.

People will park their cars in the car-park. When there is no longer space in said car-park, people will no longer park in said car-park.

It's free parking and this guy rob has even said he will buy drinks to get people in there, must be desperate! And this guy ran the brooklands hotel last so he must have a chip on his shoulder. Especially if he needs to go on plymouths forum to bribe them to come to the Darwin. Joke!

Good on him for trying to drum up some interest in a pub that with the right management, a bit of promotion and a spruce up could be a handy venue for pre-match, IMO the Brooklands went downhill when he left there never enough staff to cope at busy times.................

The brooklands is now on the up and is fully prepared for tomorow and other busy occasions! Isn't it good manners/ethics to declare an interest when you are denigrating someone's business while bigging up your own?

Word of advice, if your trying to get customers for your mums pub, one of the techniques not normally recommended is slagging off other pubs. Particularly when the people running other pubs are well known to some people on this forum

Will give The Brooklands a chance as i have to walk past it although stopped going at the end of last season as they weren't geared up for the bumper crowds...... like is the function room open? Why dont they have a cans bar outside?

Davey, licensing stops the brooklands having a bottle/can bar it was one of the things i wanted to bring in straight away but was refused 3 seasons ago( but you can purchase a bottle etc and go outside!! madness). I am sure there is enough business to go round for us all and i believe all competition is good competition everyone has their prefered choices and that will never change, good luck to everyone.

It cost £5 to park at the Brooklands but it got a little bit heated outside in the car park after the game.
The police dogs seemed to calm everyone down though.

If you go to the Brooklands and just have a couple of pints and do not go to the match do you have to pay to park?

Darwin for me, out of the two. Went to the Brooklands before the Man U friendly & the bar staff were arsey about plastic glasses even though it was half five & there was only me, my mate,a few pensioners & his son there ! It was the worst pint of London Pride I'd had there - also heard that they were ripping off Elton John concert-goers after the council had agreed a price in their travel plan !Not the best ways to encourage custom

Went to the Darwin for the first time on Saturday - nice pub and atmosphere, could do with a couple of real ales, not too keen on the Banks Bitter.
Beats the Brooklands hands down for me I'm afraid.

If you go to the Brooklands and just have a couple of pints and do not go to the match do you have to pay to park? That used to be the case, don't know at present. Do the new management rip off fans at £5 a time to use and park or have they seen sense and reduced the toll....? Shoddy practice that has become the norm since the ground move.

If the Brooklands ONLY charge football fans to park and not regulars and wedding parties etc. then it is a blatant rip-off and tax on Town fans.
Can the Landlord please come on here and tell us why ONLY Town fans have to pay.

Can the Landlord please come on here and tell us why ONLY Town fans have to pay. the garage across the road charge £5 for match parking, but don't charge if you are going to the shop or looking at used cars - is that a tax on town fans? Match parking is £5 - if you don't like it don't pay it - there are alternatives, but this is no reason to attack the new owners, they are not doing anything different to previous owners. They have other problems to sort out, it seems

Whatever excuses you make Scooter the fact of the matter still is the brooklands is to my knowledge the only pub that "taxes" town supporters.
