Anyone hear Radio Shropshire news, 5pm yesterday? Apparently Alaska/STFC have written to SABC, asking them to buy Gay Meadow, plus 42 acres of land at Oteley Road, (that not needed for the new stadium), for a reported £14million. The letter states that the saga has now dragged on for 8 years, and if the Council refuse to play ball, Alaska will purchase the land for future use, (community housing), and the club's dream of a new stadium, will be dead in the water. The Council are holding an emergency meeting to discuss this, on Monday 22nd December. No doubt our coucillors will receive letters from antis. So get writing and put the case for those who want this stadium to happen.

Just on this. I havent heard the piece on Radio Salop so cant comment.
I can understand Alaska's frustration and the clubs. However the thing is that the club have planning permission for a football stadium, not housing at Oteley Road. And it's in STFC name not Alaska's.
In previous attempts to get the New Meadow at Oteley Road, housing was part of the plan, to enable the developers to pay for the NM. Because of the strutcure of the local plan it would have been very difficult to get this through, because it would have to be proved that there were no other suitable brown field sites for housing. The reason NM was finally approved was that it was proved that no other suitable sites could eb provided for a stadium. The thing is there are other sites for housing.
Whether Alaska are trying to call the councils bluff I don't know. I think the council will take a dim view of them being railroaded. To be fair of late the council have been very supportive of STFC, and do want the stadium to happen. What they cant do is be seen to be giving public money to STFC. The footabll have stated this anyway.
I think obviously we need to see the details of this. Ther is nothing on the Radio Salop website, so I await to see something in the Salop Star.
I would ask people to hold fire for now on writing to the council, it we have more details.

Ta Jonah. It's a reat idea, but I can't see the council paying £14 million for4 the Gay Meadow site and then having to find another £15 milluion for a new theatre. Unless they pay STFC £14 million and for that Alaska then build them the theatre. Also interesting to note that according to press reports the size of the theatre is now a 400 seat capacity rtaher than 600 talked about earlier.
I'm just going to keep my fingers crossed.
