Public footpath for which highways dept of the council are responsible so why not post on their site WRONG As I have stated on here many times before. The land is owned by Network Rail and they aren't interested by all accounts. I e-mailed the local councillors last season (pointless spouting off on here about it unless you think Jamo or Ratcliffesghost etc will do something because a post has appeared here) and, to be fair, they got it sorted. So, in conclusion, go on the council website and e-mail Jon Tandy, Liz Parsons or Ted Clarke Here is the link Link------> shropsdemserv.web.coop/CommitteeServices/ShropshireCouncillors/ByName

It would be a good P.R. move by the club to run a strimmer over it and say that their fans are are the lifeblood of the club and how important it is to help them walk to the ground as there is very limited parking.
It is easy to say that the path is nothing to do with the club but it is called Superblues Way and the majority of users is probably us fans.

so many moaners, so few do'ers!! Seeing as a lot of fans feel like customers rather than supporters now, why should we do anything? Is it not too much to ask to visit the ground via safe and clear routes? As ive already said a few times that walkway used to be dangerous with an uneven surface caused by rocks/stones. Nothing was done until a few were thrown at Vale fans, maybe theres some stinging nettles we can chuck some Plymouth fans into, Im sure someone would then clear it up

this pathway has been done to death though, we all know it is not the responsibility of the club, and to tend to it once, then it would become the clubs problem!!
speak to the owners, or do it yourself!! its all rather boring now!!

Surely the club should listen to it's customers and proactively seek to fix it. We know they can't touch it themselves but surely a message saying they will be chasing network rail up as they care for the clubs supporters wouldn't go a miss!!! I wonder how much compensation the club will have to pay when someone hurts themselves walking along it. Yes they don't own the land but opening the gate each match day means the club are proactively advertising the route as fit for purpose!

for those who want someone to sort it... fill out an application for some offenders to clear it on a community payback scheme. www.westmerciaprobation.org.uk/probation/payback.htmlProjects must benefit the community, must be work that can be done safely and not take paid work from others! instead of expecting the club to sort it spend ten minutes yourself!

It would cost the club nothing. mainly because the club dont own it!! so they do not have a duty of care to people!!

That's like tesco's saying we will open our back door as a new exit but as it leads onto land we don't own it is not our duty of care

Legally yes they do have a duty of care. That's like tesco's saying we will open our back door as a new exit but as it leads onto land we don't own it is not our duty of care Try it, you will lose!! "What is negligence? Negligence may be loosely defined as a failure to take proper care. If that lack of care is shown by a landlord (network rail) who fails to maintain common parts in safe condition, or a property manager (STFC) who advocates /gives his client access to unmaintained common parts, then they may have to pay compensation to the person injured, or to the person who acted on the advice and lost money. The law says that you must take care if it is 'reasonably foreseeable' that your activities (or inability to act) could cause harm to someone else." So the club opening the gate allowing access to this pathway could be seen a negligence!

Lots of discussion here, so what's the solution? If the club or council or network rail won't sort it - do we have any fans with a strimmer etc. that we could use to cut the brambles back?

I have all the equipment needed. If you can get me permission, I'll go and do it before the Plymouth game, without charge.
I have £5 million public liability by the way.

So the club opening the gate allowing access to this pathway could be seen a negligence! Agree it could be!! How about the negligence shown by the person who put one foot before the other, and using his / her eyes to see where they are going!! Really would be weak, and not even get to a civil court!!

of course the club should sort it do they not care for their own fans safety ? they should have noticed this problem as it it right on their doorstep and it has happened before they should have contacted whoever the onus lies on and demand it be made safe town have a moral duty to ensure their fans arrive safetly as soon as town stop caring about this , fans will get hurt and fans will stop coming whether or not you agree with this thread being on here i will lay money that it does the trick

[/quote That'll be Pilch you're talking about Hey if Jake King was still manager there may be a few of us in with a chance of starting vs Plymouth! On a serious note though just wonder if the club could tap into the 'volunteer culture' that the government are keen to implement. I know that Pilch and a few others have offered in past to clean the seats etc but surely in these austere times the club could save a few quid by getting some of the basic housekeeping stuff done by fans who have the best interests of the club at heart. The 'Rusty Meadow' thread is another prime example. Perhaps this job may be out with what could be done due to H&S constraints but with the stadium being our most important asset it's vital we look after it, using whatever resources are available.

Good work lads. That's the path sorted. It will be if I get permission. I can do that myself, no sweat. I've looked in the diary and I've got a bit of spare time a week on Thursday afternoon. I couldn't accept any help with the cutting/strimming, as you wouldn't be covered by my insurance, either for yourself, or any damage you might do. If anyone wanted to clear the debris behind me, by throwing it further back out of the way, that would be fine, but I wouldn't do anything without the nod.
