In my opinion its game over, for some unknown reason they know how to play against us and comfortably doing it outplaying us all over the park. I'm being truthful saying this but we aint got a hope on Friday. Overall they haven't been as good as us agint the rest of League 2 but versus ourselves they know how to play against us. Having them in the play offs was the worst team we could have played. My reasons for this, they had chances and should have beat us comfortably at home in the 1-1 draw, i also remember them missing a penalty in the same game. 5-0 speaks fro itself utterly ripped apart and yesterday well in theory we got lucky as it should have been at least 5-0 again maybe 6 or 7! They know how to play us and without Sharps, we will loose again Friday. If I was Turner i'd be looking to next season now.

Agree, no hope. Need to sort out contracts etc ASAP otherwise we will miss the best players and it will be yet another 2 years till we reach the playoffs - 2007, 2009, 2011 ? 2013.

I agree we aint gonna turn this around as they know us inside out for some reason, Robinson and his intelligence(apparently his icue) has obviousley told Buckle everything he needs to know. My concern now is we will loose players because we havent gone up, the frustration alone will make th players move on. I won't blame Jon Taylor or Bradshaw for moving on and I think they will. Turner will have to rebuild a team overnight during the summer. We got no chance of keeping our young best players in this division. One word screwed by Ref Wigglesworth.

One word screwed by Ref Wigglesworth Yesterday was very disappointing, utter cr@p again when we're on sky, just like Bury. We ain't completely out of it and that will be the attitude of the players I'm sure. If Sharps is back for Friday then we have an outside chance. Can't see us beating them by 3 goals so if we're to go through it'll be after extra/time penalties. 2-0/3-1 to us is more than a reachable scoreline but we haven't made it easy for ourselves.

despite my apparent outrage on other threads, i disagree. i dont think it is all over.
i just pray that, whichever players get picked for friday, our team is the confident, flowing, attacking one that on its day is a match for any in this league.
we really are jeckle and hyde and thats been a big problem all season. players like wrighty who on his day is unbeatable in this league, has on far too many occassions been absent for 90 minutes, shying away from tackles and watching rather than doing. his recent resurgance should not detract from imo him being a key player for us and when he is on fire we shine. and he aint on his own. as a team we are shockingly inconsistant.
if we get it right friday, torquay are ****ed and its going to be a good night, if they play like yesterday, kopthis and the inbreds from hereford are going to have a great time on here.

There's only one way for Town to play on Friday which may work in our favour. Torquay strike me as one of those "out the way on the map and will always have a cracking home record" teams but I think it would be majorly disappointing if we can't win at home.
There's various other examples of game where a team has turned it completely around. I never though we'd score at Bury in the play off's that time and look what happened.
Anything's possible - so let's get right behind the team! Unfortunately it's my Graduation Ball so won't be able to see it but thank the lord for Smartphones!

Completely Disagree. 1 early goal and pressure will be fully on Torquay.

8,000 + fans and it being a game under the lights.
Remember the games we had under Peters on Fridays nights, the place will be rocking.
Get behind them, ain't over at all.... Ask me if Shrewsbury Town can beat Torquay Utd at home and I'll say yes all day long.
It's Torquay FFS not Barcelona.
Game on.

SSS being positive for once I agree with others, get an early goal , perhaps in the first 20 mins and I can see us getting through from there. Carlisle lost 3-0 away at Huddersfield in the JPT semi finals and still went through to the final and won it. COYB

There is every chance, don't be daunted. We were 4-1 down to Birminghan City in 93/94 and came back to win 6-4. Keep the faith mates.

As bad as yesterday was we still have a chance, and need to go for it in the second leg.
Am possibly clutching at straws but 2.0 is a funny score and now Torquay are big favourites to go through it might affect the way they play.
I'd go for Ainsworth and Harrold up front and try to get wright and Taylor behind their defence to stretch them a bit. There centre backs aren't the quickest and if we get behind them there is always the chance of a poor tackle and a red card and then it's a whole new game

Deflated, exasperated and angry after yesterday's game, but completely disagree with the original poster.
There's six days left to concentrate on this season, if that doesn't work out then we can start looking at next season (well, I say 'we', I mean the club - I'll be off to lick my wounds and try to forget about football for a bit).
It's been a noticeable trend over the last few seasons that as soon as we hit a set back, some fans want to throw in the towel and start 'concentrating on next season' - when, of course everything will go smoothly and we'll cruise to the League 2 Championship with 46 wins.
Bristol Rovers, Plymouth, Swindon, Crawley, D&R and either AFC Wimbledon or Luton will be in the mix next season ,and you'd expect most of those to be competing at the right end of the table next time round.
Going into the game with Sharps injured doesn't help, but beating Torquay by two clear goals within 90 minutes certainly isn't beyond the realms of possibility.

In my opinion its game over, for some unknown reason they know how to play against us and comfortably doing it outplaying us all over the park. I admit I felt like this at first- especially after watching an interview with Buckle at Torquay- and noting how "hungry" they were, as they are "the underdogs". I felt very down- I thought there seems to have been a conspiracy of events against us: First that goal that never was- which cost us automatic promotion, Second THEN the oversight that allowed Robinson to play against his "parent" club- and obviously he's relished it!! Third Sharpy injured which upset the team as he's a great captain. By Friday, they will have learned to cope and will be stronger. WHO was responsible for that oversight that allowed Robinson to play? Apparently it could have been written into his contract or agreement or whatever it is, that he couldn't play against us? We have been the "victims" of two major errors and one mishap and it's about time things turned round for us!!! But- then I thought that if Robinson HAS told Buckle all he needs to know- then Turner will have realised it by now- and they will come up with a game plan that takes the visitors by surprise. Plus the fact that we'll be playing on a vastly better pitch. Everything seems against us- but surely we are then due for a day when everything goes right for us?

There is still one game to play this season. All I want is for Shrewsbury Town to be - at the fourth time of asking this season - the better side in a fixture against Torquay United. There isn't much hope and certainly no basis now for expectation but at least you would hope that the players don't want to humiliate themselves.

I think you need to stay away on Friday and possibly next season if you cant deal with the situation. The players, staff and fans need to show mental strength and deal with the adverse score and give it a go, which of course they will do. I still believe this team has the quality to turn the tie round, and if we do turn it round befief and confidence will be the main catalyst because we know the quality is there, 4th place in League 2 and 79 points proves that . If we fail then yes we can have a post mortem and a sulk!

Crawley will throw money at it and buy their way out of the league (already some strong rumours about Le Fondre on his way there to partener Tubbs), Plymouth will certainly be a strong contender, Dagenham will have learned from their time in league 1, The Gas will be up there with a new manager in situ, Rotherham under Scott, Gillingham again.....the list could go on Add to that a strong possibility that next seasons squad could well follow GTs philosophy on giving youngsters a chance and I have a feeling we could well see a much younger and thus less experienced squad, if we dn't do the business on Friday night I wouldn't be surprised to see us in league 2 for a while longer yet. That said the Torquay side last night were quite a young side.

If we don't get up with GT this season or next, he will not be the Manager to eventually get us promoted, personally I think we will be stronger next season.

Very unlikely, people can say we are at home so its different, but we are still playing against a team who has scored 7 with no reply and we have hardly threatened in 180 minutes, just because its at our place rather then theres it doesnt make much difference, its still a grass pitch with a goal at either end, and without Sharps, i see them scoring atleast once. Im more confident of us beating them at home rather then away, but its still a football pitch against the same team who have coasted past us twice recently.

just woke from the night before, quick reply before long journey back to salop , i agree that bradshaw an taylor may move on and again agree that i wouldnt blame them ,toms lack of starts will start to frustrate him and mayfeel his future lies elsewere as taylors lack of invitations to join the game with ball to his feet or be it down the line to run on to will also frustrate him too as he works so hard on and off the ball for the town like tom never letting his head down , so i hope we all enjoyed watching these young gents in towns colours this season alas i dont think we will next season, oh well time to hit the road , charles darwin i,m on my way

Can I suggest you stay away on friday if you can't take being beaten? The rest of us could do without you whilst we've still got some semblance of hope. Fk me as someone else has said, it's 2-0 not 6!!

Purposely opted against posting last night and allowed some of the red mist to clear. Was very much a case of learning very little from the match at Plainmoor in March. Torquay approached the match in the same manner and unfortunately so did we. Turner's philosophy of 'let them worry about us' backfired on this occasion and his belief that 'they won't play that well again and we won't play that badly' was well wide of the mark.
However, as stated before it is only half time. Would always back us to beat any side in this league at home. Clawing back the 2 goals is a big ask but certainly not impossible. I certainly have faith!

Look to next season, what are you expecting him to rest players or maybe get all the contracts sorted this week
