Sore losers United at the end Filthy challenge by Scholes aswell, disgraceful. If I was Zabaleta I'd give him a good smack next time I see him. Very deserved win, and no treble for United this year.

Cheeky blighters just cost me a tenner. How dare they vastly exceed expectations. Note(s) to self - do not go to bookies to collect daytime winnings when an in-play betting match is just kicking off. Also, never bet on red.

Pure filth on tape. A great player, but doesn't half reinforce the Angry Ging stereotype.

SWP trying to hold back Rio was the best moment of the match.

I need a new sarcasm detector, this one just melted down. Do note the way he actually used his right foot to "push off" Zab's leg, rather than trying to bend at the knee, pull back his leg or fall backwards out of the inevitable impact.

Thought Joe Hart was exceptional, thought Scholes deserved to go and City just about deserved it overall.

Not on your nelly, Sirrah! I went back to the not-so-ok Coral after the RvB match finished, and the first thing I did when I got to the counter (my afternoon matches hadn't settled when I walked in earlier, which is probably why I bet on Man U due to not getting a sense of Closure on proceedings), was flip over the leaflets advertising Bolton vs Stoke to hide any tempting markets. This is also precisely why I never, ever, ever ever ever use online betting any more. There's no 5-minute walk to re-assess my risks Well done on that treble, I eased in with a fairly safe one of Town, Bury and Chesterfield for a few dollars more.

6 inches above the knee is a long way from the hip Bit sad if you're discussing which bone he could have broken. OK it was the femur, that is pretty darn high.

Clumsy is when you clatter someone accidentally because you've lost control after your original intent, normally because you're sliding on your arse.
Looking at the slow-mo there, he's physically thrusting his leg in harder to push-off from Zab's thigh AFTER the ball has passed, possibly even using the impact as leverage for his spin to get his eyes back on the ball.
Yeah, it was a dumb high tackle to start initially, but it looks like once the ball wasn't an option he then exploited that position, with no consideration for the other player. Scholes should have bent his leg back, and taken a fall to the turf or stumbled in his original direction of travel. Instead, he used somebody's leg as a handbrake.
The ones you've seen that are worse should be equally condemned if not moreso. The amount of skin broken is not of a direct correlation to the contempt shown by the tackler. I don't give a damn what colour shirt they wear, or how passionate the game is, sometimes a red card seems insufficient penalty for an action.

Oh come on, it's not like Man U are a one-man team In the most provable cases it should obviously be left to the criminal courts (such as Hong Kong Cantona, Zidane's and Duncan Ferguson's nutjobbing, etc). In the ones where it's not so clear-cut perhaps an enhanced "community service duty" to the FA where beyond the usual fines and suspensions the players are required to take part in high-visibility campaigns against aggressive foulplay in the sport including acknowledgement of their mistakes beyond a press office-written apology. Some behavioural counselling wouldn't go amiss either.

Some behavioural counselling wouldn't go amiss either. Calm down mate. I, for one, do not want to see Shrek and the Ginger Dwarf in a double act, apologising for their previous sins. Lets just hit them where it hurts most by introducing much longer bans. Maybe then clubs will be the ones that enforce the "FAIR PLAY" initiatives, fearful of losing their best players for long periods. 2 or 3 game bans and a £20,000 fine is like "p**sing in the wind" for some of these overpaid morons. Taking them away from the game which they proffess to "love" would hurt them far more. By the way, Stoke to score a 5th goal @12/5..... luvverley jubberly.

Pilch, take your Manc tinted specs off. Scholes kick was 100% intentional, he clearly followed through with the leg, and just because he was rightly punished doesn't mean I can't discuss it. I recall Jonny Evans putting Holden of Bolton out of the game for months so United are no saints.
The most surprising thing to come from those incidents was the refs actually gave reds to both the incidents.
And there was a difference between criticising Nani and defending Carragher. I critcized Nani for his baby-ish, over the top reaction, his tears, his whining after match only to return a week later, I also said Carragher should have seen red if you dig up the old thread. As should Rafael for a terrible twofooted lunge minutes later.
Easy bites really.
