Well as I say I am no expert but I found a few things pleasing. Planned (by the previous government) inflation rise in fuel duty due in April to be delayed until 2012 Annual 1p above inflation "fuel escalator" rise scr@pped until 2015 Measures to be paid for by £2bn extra taxes on North Sea oil firms. I think thats ok. Horrible thing is many millions of people up and down the country will be saying the same thing: 'I think that's ok'. Purely from a budget point of view, I am an extra £2.36 per week worse off. I think thats ok. What I don't think is ok, is my 2 year pay freeze; a 3 year annual incremental pay freeze; and my increased pensions contributions. Effectively, this puts me out of pocket to the tune of £1300 per year, without taking into account inflationary reductions to wage values. I don't think thats ok.

Is the police pension a final salary type one ?
I know you guys put a fair bit in already..do the tax payer subsidise the same as the forces ?

I'd always thought windsor was an intelligent bloke, despite being myopically tory - totally blown out of the water by comments in this thread. Horrible thing is many millions of people up and down the country will be saying the same thing: 'I think that's ok'. I have freely admitted not understanding a lot of the content ( and implications). However on the face of it I was quite happy with the part of the budget posted.

As a volunteer for a charity I have to say that the proposed simplification of Gift Aid is very welcome. Also relieved that NI and Income Tax have not been combined - this would be a disaster for us pensioners. Something for volunteer drivers too.

With regard to the NI/ Tax combined, it would make sense because the phallacy that the NI is purely for the NHS, is just that, but that is apparently what a lot of people think. NI & Income Tax go into a Govt. pot = TAX There would obviously be different levels for different liabilty groups, but as an administrative item, one single deduction called TAX makes sense. But making out that NI is anything other than TAX is just silly. But for the ordinary tax payer, surely a lot easier just to say the TAX = 32% instead of phaffing about with NI.

I agree in principle, but there would have to be many exemptions which will add complication. For example, I have not yet reached state pension age but am retired and living on my occupational pension - a 12% income tax hike would be a major problem for me.

Point out that in 2008 some 14Billion was lost in Tax Avoidance / Evasion and then expects us to go "WOW" when he targets recovering 1 Billion a year ! Oh , and I'm so pleased that he raised the Entrepreneurs Relief for capital gains to 10 million !! £5 million was such a miserably low figure !! Been told today that £900m has been allocated to HMRC's tax avoidance busting efforts- aiming to bring in an additional £7bn
