I don't see any reason for people to support him just because he's British. Love the people who get wound up by it though!
However, the guy has been operating at Top 5 level in the world for a long time now and you can directly compare to Lee Westwood, who also by our Beancounter's definition is a 'bottler'....

Who else could you add to that list of Uk "bottlers"
People who are top 10 in world in there sport but seemingly not able to get over the line for the win... Golf there are few Paul Casey and Luke Donnald....
Matthew Wilson in Rallying top ten but locked out of winning anything major by the Scandinavians...
Cant really think of any others brits who are top 5-10 but never one the major competitions?

Ah yes, but you forgot he wore a Paraguay shirt once and he's a bit moany. Makes all the difference for some. I think he lost alot of fans after that but in all honesty I dont blame him at all I always route for teams who are playing Scotland or Wales It was misleading journalism. Nothing more than humourous banter (given back after being on the receiving end) reported out-of-context. And anyway, he's Scottish - he's supposed to hate England when it comes to footie. Nowt wrong with that. And I quite like that he is sometimes a bit moany or gets in a black mood and implodes occasionally. At least we see his real character and he's not a bland goody-goody also-ran like Henman.

Don't think Murray has it upstairs yet. Certainly the ability to win majors but it's frustrating for me to see him be so easily frustrated!

A bit early on a Sunday for me Quite amazing at times how the point seems to be over and then Djokavic appears from nowhere to get it back...

He's a good player, trouble is with being our only british player in the top 100 (or whatever) he will always be under so much pressure to deliver on behalf of the nation, a la Henman mania previously.

Djokovic played at a level above Murray don't think you can say he bottled it just not good enough Djokovic played at a level above everyone in the world currently. He was awesome. Murray was below par, but still, would've taken something special to do anything more than take a set. Federer couldn't either.

Murray is one of the best in the world, and for that you have to give him great credit. His time will come, he's still young. He doesn't endear himself to me though.

Bottletastic Perhaps with your expert tennis knowledge Rats you would like to explain to us simple folk why he will "never" have an opportunity like that again. Surely he was never favourite to win against a higher ranked player who had just demolished Roger Federer

As Murray has reached 3 grand slam finals in as many years and has not been favourite in any of them, I am sure Rats can explain

As Murray has reached 3 grand slam finals in as many years and has not been favourite in any of them, I am sure Rats can explain Favourites do not always win. And if you gave him a choice of who he would like to play out of Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic in a Slam Final I dare say he who choose Novak Djokovic. Still say his best chance is the US Open.

When one limps out injured and the other has a sub standard tournament surely ................................ .................but no Try again Rats, much harder this time. He's ranked 4....... he was not the favourite against an in form Serb who had already won the Open there. You said he would never have such a good opportunity. Federer is still great but has not been unbeatable in the last couple of seasons......... at 29 is his motivation still there. Nadal is also a great player but in the last year or so has been a bit hampered by injury (something you used to criticise Murray for). So why is it not possible that Murray, who has now shown he can get to Grand Slam finals, not make a few more, and have a better opportunity because he is playing a lesser ranked player??

BOTTLER Yes almost as predictable as you not answering a straight question. I will try once more. You said he will NEVER get the opportunity he had today. Why won't he, irrespective of whether he takes it or not

Dont get angry owd lad. I can see you golden boy failed again, we all can. With Federer and Nadal out of the way its bleedin obvious why this was this was his best chance, just accept the fact he's a bottler. Regards
