If the Paul the Octopus is so good, why don't the police stick him on a map of Northumbria so he can point out where Moat is hiding?

As a trainee Journalist, it has been fascinating to watch how this evening's incidents have been covered by the various media outlets.
A very sad incident, but hopefully and thankfully it has reached a conclusion without anymore casualties.

The police should fill him full of lead and be done with it. Brilliant, and then, they'll be equally as bad as him! That would solve absolutely nothing.

An indication of the way our society has developed that Raoul Moat's actions are now the fault of the Police; and that despite holding a gun to his head for six hours, his death is now the responsibility of the Police...the man killed one, attempted to kill two others, and threatened the doctors and nurses who were treating his ex girlfriend and the police officer he shot... Moat did this, no one else.

Moat did this, no one else. Yep. Too right. You can't go round shooting people dead because they're the new boyfriend to your ex. In fact you can't shoot any firearm at anybody. He had his chances to give himself up and chose not to. In the end he killed himself and that endeth that. Deserves no sympathy IMO. If we're going to criticise the Police then maybe it's for the adequacy and thoroughness of the search, but as far as their treatment of Moat and the chances they gave him I think they did more than enough.
