I moved to Wales, from God's own County, with my job and, despite now being self-employed. chose to stay. I love where I live and like the Country and (most of) its people. But would some kind, sensitive and diplomatic individual please point out to (many of) them that - YOURE NOT IN THE WORLD CUP!! Why when, out of personal choice, England fans start displaying the national flag from their car windows - directly influnced by the fact that they will actually be appearing - do loads of Welsh flags appear? Is it wishfull thinking, hope, dispair, jealousy or plain old fashioed hatred? Whatever the reason - it looks stupid. The flags are displayed to show support for the nation as they compete in the greatest sporting event in the world - No other reason. Please, someone, let know how rediculous they look. You'll be doing them a favour - Honest.

I'm sure they'll hit Gwynedd soon. Sorry about the spelling - pretty crap at it actually - stick to my opinon though. Cheers

Was speaking to a super opinionated and damn right annoying Welsh bloke from Aberystwyth the other month in the Nags. He was banging on about the Welsh and how proud he is of being Welsh; only when speaking about the English national team he referred to them as 'we'.

As far as i know and i do know a lot of Welsh people, most people in Wales will support and want England to win the world cup. Wales is probably our dearest of allies at the end of the day and would be with us at the last stand if there ever was one. 95% of Welsh people deep down will want us to win it, the 5% of which is probably plaid cymru from the north west corner probably won't. As English people we don't give Wales as much credit as it deserves, which is more so than Scotland who tend to hate us more every day for some reason, must be Celtic fans Don't forget England and Wales United have already won 1 world cup this year!

When i was working down in Merthyr Tydfill, i made the mistake of going in to a pub. They were saying all sorts to me, the stand out comment was that England has no history and doesn't exist. The people i met down there certainly didn't seem to fond of the English, i was advised to stay away from the clubs etc, and this was not north Wales, this was in the South.

I have represented Wales on the international scene and have had some abuse for not being pure Welsh. I was actually speaking to someone the other day who I thought was Spanish (he was from Swansea ) He asked if I was Welsh and I explained my history to which he cut me short and said 'Can you speak Welsh?' I replied with a 'no' to which he said Well, you're not f&*king Welsh then! He also could not speak Welsh. Wales has a proud history and was largely unconquered whe England appeared to fall to the Normans et al but at the end of the day it isn't even a country

When I sponsored the Darlo game, I had several Welsh guests. Some are Rellies. Welsh speakers. I also both work and buy from Wales regularly. Never had a problem. On the other hand, I know a Brummie butcher who moved to Wales, had a hostile reception from locals and moved back to Brum.

I worked in Anglesey for a year and thought the locals were some of the friendliest people I had worked and socialised with. I never noticed any anti-English vibe, but they were very passionate about their country and I don't think there's anything wrong with that. A few 'differences' I noticed
1. They spoke Welsh, English was very much a 2nd language. I've got no problems with that but in the schools the English kids had big problems adjusting as the teachers taught in Welsh. Not ideal, but understandable. Their country, their language.
2. They were very laid back. Much like when somebody tells you to chill out when you go to Greece, it was like that in Wales. It took 10 days to get my head gasket repaired.
3. I felt no 'talking behind my back or slagging me off' vibe.
4. They were always arguing with each other but always seemed to end up laughing.
5. They all seemed to look older than what they were !
6. They all seemed to be making a little bit of extra cash doing something on the side.
7. They were paid rubbish but seemed very content with it.
8. They supported Premiership teams not Welsh Premier ones but were stereotypically mad about Rugby.
9. Tom Jones was on the radio all the time and seemed to be treated as some kind of God.
10. On the Welsh news (in Welsh) Tom Jones and Charlotte Church seemed to feature in every bulletin.
None of that is bulls**t. It's just what it 'felt' like !
Nice people but it felt as foreign to me as holidaying on the continent.

When I joined the RAF I was nicknamed 'Taff'. Don't know what that says about the Shrewsbury accent.

A few of us off here went to Barcelona a few years ago.
I took a Salop flag (pre clippy) and a bully from Wales made me put a small Welch Flag in the corner.
I am also canoing and walking in the Welsh hills this weekend...love the place.

Loads of Welsh flags flying around here (Aberystwyth) because it is the start of the Eisted Eistyd... Welsh Music Festival season.
The Welsh are proud of their Country and fair play to them for that. They are not as petty and small minded as the majority of Scots in that they would be fairly happy for England to win the World Cup. No they're not going to come out in full support of England but, unlike the Scots, they're not going to shout from the roof tops how much they want England to fail.
I will be flying the England flag here as I am English and the majority of people who have holiday homes on our Park are English. If Wales had made it then the Welsh flag would have flown alongside it.

Everyone is talking about Wales as if it's a foreign country thousands of miles away. It is 3rd world though. There language is fake (just trying to be different) it's so depressing there and there's never ever any phone signal!

Just to clarify; I could have lived anywhere, when I became self-employed, just over 8 years ago but, although we moved house at the time, chose to stay in Wales. That says enough about how I feel about the place and it's people. If other's want to debate pro and anti, that's fine but it's not what this (slightly ) thread was about. It's just that I think the flying of the Welsh flag, just because there are English flags about - when Wales are not competing - is a little bit weird. That's all

I wish I could put my car flags on here but I have a good chance of having the windows smashed!
There are Australian flags available too only not the traditional ozzy flag, its green and gold and has 'socceroos' on it. Kinda lame.
I wonder if you have to buy a set of aboriginal flags too or risk a fine from the Victorian government.

And the reason the Welsh do not have a Parliament but have an "Assembly" is presumably because they need to say their prayers and then be taught a lesson
