I would like to go, but not sure about that week at the moment, due to work - would have preferred it a week later, but hopefully

Wouldnt stay for the whole week but would consider going down for the weekend, which is when I presume the semi finals/final would take place.
Good to see Salop taking part in a tasty pre season tournament in a very nice part of the world for the first time in a long time. Certainly beats Tranmere away!

This invisible new manager is certainly sorting a few things out - firstly getting rid of some coaching staff, then sorting out players contracts, now the pre season schedule. Hmm, I wonder who he might be

If indeed the new manager is pulling strings, why is he not in his seat and announced?

If indeed the new manager is pulling strings, why is he not in his seat and announced? Probably just the samll matter of having to sell his shares somewhere else.

Thats the Director of Football (and will be announced whenever he sells them, however long it takes) - the new manager is already employed by the club and we all know him

Has there been much happening? Apart from speculation in the Star (which is getting tedious now after 3 weeks) it wouldn't seem as though much is happening EXCEPT for getting rid of a few coaching staff, sorting out players contracts and a pre season game or two. That is far more than has ever been sorted out without a manager in the past AFAIK. Nothing to me to suggest it's anything other than DH as team manager & GT as Director of football - and I'd be more than happy with that TBH A young and hopefully up and coming manager with a wise old head that has done it more than once at our level, and at probably a very reasonable price to the club as well compared to the last few appointments

Just read some one of the press releases relating to the tournament and Joma have committed to bringing one of 'Europe's foremost' sides to play in a curtain raiser or in the tournament itself.
Either they are paying us a massive compliment or they are possibly planning to bring over a Seville or Getafe XI to darkest north Devon....

Would be stretching it to call Getafe one of Spain's "foremost" sides, let alone Europe's!

I imagine we will be one of the 4 seeded teams along with Kilmarnock, Doncaster and Leyton Orient. I imagine Accy and Rushden may have something to say about that. Would be great fro our new man whoever it may be to get off to a winning start and win this tourney which i think we are capable of doing. People may say Kilmarnock are the strongest side in it but i imagine Doncaster would be. Its gonna be interesting as longa s we perform to our best!

Agree that Donny are probably stronger than Killie these days.
This looks like a cracking tournament and I'm really quite looking forward to it now.
Anyone have any idea how the structure might work. seeing as there's 12 teams and the thing only takes 8 days?

Would Kilmarnock be counted as the foreign side?

Its runs from Monday 19th July to Sunday 25th July The 12 teams are split into four groups of Three - each group winner will advance to the Semi Final - group games will be played Monday,Wednesday,Friday i assume if its the same as last years tourney. Semi Finals will be played on Saturday and The Final on Sunday, wont be sure until the details are released but i reckon it will go something like that.

This is an ideal tournament in my opinion. Competitive with teams at levels above and below ours, gives valuable match practise and is a far better idea than the training camps in Spain that gave been part of the previous 2 years pre season. We need to get back to basics so we can be well prepared and avoid the annual slump in form once the sun goes in in October!

I personally think because most of us can't go to a world cup then lets treat this tournament world cup style? Group games etc sounds great, i for one may go camping down there for the last group game and possibly the semi final. Gonna be great, i'd like to see the Prostar host such an event with 4 teams though in the future.
My idea would be invite the best placed team from Northen Ireland that hasn't qualified for Europe, invited the Scottish First Dvision Champions and The best placed Welsh Prem side that hasn't qualified for Europe.
Anyhow back to the South West Challenge cup, camps sites in Devon.

I'm gonna definately see if i can get down for a couple of games. I'm not sure if teams are seeded or not, if so i imagine we will be a seeded team. Last years tourament was controversial as Grimsby got to the final and then decided to withdraw from the tournament over safety fears and the fact they had another game the following Monday night and wanted the match played earlier, which was refused because of having to reorganising supporters, sponsors, officials etc So in the end a some non league side was re-instated to play Luton Town in the final!
RESULTS
Group A: Ilfracombe Town 1 Exeter City 4, Eastleigh 1 Ilfracombe Town 0, Exeter City v Eastleigh cancelled.
Group B: Royal Racing FC Montegnee 0 Yeovil Town 5, Grimsby Town 1 Royal Racing FC Montegnee 0, Grimsby Town 3 Yeovil Town 2.
Group C: Bideford 0 Wycombe Wanderers 0 (4-5 on pens), Luton Town 3 Bideford 0, Wycombe Wanderers v Luton Town cancelled.
