Throughout the match I couldn't help wishing that Ben Davies was still in blue rather than black and white. The celebration didn't bother me, the way we defended before the goal bothered me as we had appeared to learn nothing from the first twenty minutes.
On the subject of booing or applauding former players I never give ex players grief regardless of how they performed for us. However, I always make a point of applauding players who did their best for us when they were here, Ben Davies (and Luke Rodgers) fall into that category.

Typical Davies went missing in the big games. I didn't notice him second half unless he was diving. How is scoring the only goal of the match going missing? Wish some of our players did your description of 'going missing' in games this season. Unfortunately many of them actually go missing. I said in the second half. He did a few runs scored a goal (which could have ben saved) inthe first half and then that was it. Can't remember anything else after that.

Perhaps it's not saying much but purely from a playing point of view would you rather have him here or do without him.

Yes I would have him over our bunch at the moment but watching him in another teams colours and without my rose tinted specs on I did realise more that he was very quiet for the second half.

He was the best attacking player on the park yesterday, evidenced by the fact that he
- Scored the goal - Set up County's best two other chances (Edwards' header which was brilliantly saved and Hughes effort which just wide)
He also had County's only effort on goal in the second half too with a volley straight at Button.
These are his stats from recent seasons:
Current season - 13 goals, 10 assists 2008/09 season - 13 goals, 9 assists 2007/08 season - 6 goals (only played from mid November onwards due to injury) 2006/07 season - 12 goals, 13 assists
Clearly one of the best attacking midfielders in the division.

What I can never understand about his contract at Shrewsbury was that we did not offer him a new one because we " did not know which division we would be playing in", the same excuse given this year.
Firstly, Davies is easily good enough for league one so should have had a new contract either way.
Secondly, the contract could have involved different figures depending on our position the following season.
Thirdly, without players like Davies at the club you can be darn sure we WILL know which division we will be in next season, and the season after.
Letting him go on a free was a horrendous mistake, and time after the event just makes it look worse and worse.

Agreed with those last two posts.
Davies has probably scored more goals this season than the rest of our midfield including loanees put together.
Anyone suggesting that he's not that good is either mad or very very bitter.

Nothing wrong with his celebrations
EXCEPT
that he got as far as he could celebrating toward block 19 where i think it was Westcarr that stopped him from actually taking another couple of strides and making it to the end where he could have provoked very ugly scenes between both sets of fans .
He knew full well what he was doing .
Why did he not run towards the block 2 side ?
Yes, go celebrate even if its over the top but to deliberately attempt to antagonize fans to where it could have caused fighting is absolutely reprehensible and it shows him to be shallower than i thought .

Now the reaction supporters have to Hughes I can understand partially. However Davies has done nothing of the sort. Why is it okay for some knuckle draggers to hurl abuse at him for 90 minutes yet when he lets his football do the talking and runs past them there is uproar. Love Kopthis xXx

However, I dont think Davies has ever played higher than 4th division football despite the figures Ant put up showing his contribution from midfield. At 28/29years old, he really should have stepped up by now should he not? Re the contract issues - a poor excuse, no arguments there, and clearly those decisions are coming home to counter any claim of a forward moving club with aspirations of successful promotions.

Yes he should, and was a play off final away from making the step up twice in the last three years. Unfortunately for him, when hoping to further his career after Chester, he backed the wrong horse when he chose us above league one clubs interested at the time. But two play off finals in three years show it was by a whisker.

A lot of people say similar things about some premiership players who haven't played in the champions league by now e.g. barry, keane in the past.
