Evo is a good example to Tolley and Edwards- very talented local footballer who put a lot into the club and when he left for better things, commanded a decent transfer fee. Carl Griffiths and Bernard McNally are other examples I can think of. I really hope that with the current youth set up there will be a few others joining this list soon

very important point re evo - been mentioned a couple of times, but just to make sure nobody is in any doubt....
he left to join Brentford before the end of the season when he could have waited until the end when his contract was up. he could then have commmanded a decent signing-on fee for himself, but he chose to go sooner rather than later so that Brentford would have to pay Salop a fee. He did it as a thankyou to Salop. Not insubstantial either - £80k or something??
Top player - top guy.

Just one more thing about evo. His last match for us was against Darlington if I remember correctly and didn't he score (? a penalty). It was weird at the time because that is about the only game I have been to where I just knew we would win - it never occurred to me we wouldn't and I just somehow knew he would score - it had never happened before to me and it certainly hasn't happened since.

Got incredible amounts of stick from the Wakeman, mainly because he played for Wales..... Incredible gesture by the guy to lose out on a few grand to benefit the club, and had his reward by picking up the third division championship as captain that same year. Unfortunately missed his home match for Wales put was still a proud moment watching it on television. STFC Legend, and with a goal every 6 games or so, a real asset. Good luck Evo.

Evo not only scored from the half way line about a fortnight after Beckham beat Sullivan but he repeated it the following game. The goals he scored against Watford and Stockport were two of the best ever.
P.S. Jason van Blerk has moved from Woolagong to Mansfield on loan!

Really? Jason Van Blerk? The Town legend? Or was that bellend? Sorry, yes it was.
Now he was poor in a poor team. Feel sorry for Mansfield. And it ain't often I'll admit to that.

Evo. A true legend although second to Throb obviously in my greats list The slagging he used to get from some sections of the crowd were unbelievable, he had a great range of passing and although sometimes the fifty yard cross pitch passes did not come off sometimes they did and were absolutely. Probably the last player Town had, who whenever he had the ball in the oppositions half you had a feeling in your stomach something exciting might happen THe Stocport goal is the one i always remember. He said he just aimed for the statue in the Abbey Gardens a screamer from almost level with dugouts. Although i am sure my memroy has pushed it back 10 yards at least

I'll always remember his last game against Darlo. I remember him running over to the Riverside after he scored with quite an emotional celebration. Then at the end of the match he came over to the Riverside and threw his shirt, boots and everything else he had into the crowd. Also remember him fighting back the tears at the end of the game. Didnt we go and get a 0-0 draw at Brentford just after he left for them?? Seem to remember Evo drilling a couple of shots past the post in the game and someone said to me he missed on purpose!!!!! Recentley went to Crewe to watch Bradford and he scored another great goal there. The boy is a legend, and as gpricey said - he will be back. P.S I beleive his mum is still a big big Shrews fan

One of the great aspects of being a Shrewsbury fan is remembering the good times and the good people who have been in our club Evo is always welcome, the man's a legend

A very good player for us and Brentford indeed. How many goals did he score for Brentford that season they lost to Stoke in the play-offs? Upwards of 15 or something, a fabulous return for a midfielder.
One thing tho' Wrighty I'd say that when Luke Rodgers picks up the ball in the oppositions half, that not only is there a greater element of expectation but also of excitement.
