Thanks to MF and those idiots, the atmosphere on the Riverside was the worse that it's been since GP urged us all to get behind the team. The only people joining in the pathetic Combat 18 songs were themselves; the rest of us felt no motivation to join in. The result: a lot of quiet fans.

As Steve said, today's atmosphere was very poor due to the minority of idiots singing stupid songs and throwing coke bottles.
I must admit, I don't join in as many town songs as I used to - mainly because 70% of songs sang at the Meadow no longer have anything to do with Salop.
I'd also like to know if the people singing 'keep St. George in me....' know that he actually Turkish? I'm sure that would raise a few eyebrows in the 'pass the brain cell brigade'

Actually, he wasn't a real person just a character in a children's story who fought a dragon. He was born in Turkey and lived in Palestine. He almost certainly had a dark complexion which is rather ironic given how his name is used in some circles wouldn't you say?

Not really sure what Myddlesfinest's motives are for contributing to this thread but either way it hasn't helped a great deal.
This type of incident is easily combatted if stewards who are paid to do a job do just that and not watch the game.
I'm also glad that i stand on the Wakeman if this is a picture of life on the Riverside.

They sing the ira song for 1 reason and 1 reason only
to get a response from the fans in front
anyone who sings it be honest and admit it
sing football songs instead please

can i make a suggestion.... i dunno how others wud feela nd i cant really do it myself cos im away, but for the last game of the season, regular riversiders who are singers and like to create an atmosphere, go stand on the wakeman, leave the idiots in the riverside.
create a good atmosphere in wakeman, wud be great if you could get a large group in there and sing, some mite see this as backing down to the t**ts at back but i dunno.... just an idea

There should have been stewards in that area as soon as the idiots started singing. It doesn't take a genius to realise they aren't proper fans.

I think it's a top idea porky, an atmosphere can be created in the wakeman, believe it or not. If it's a nice day, I reckon it'd be great to get singing at the end, especially while we're kicking that way.

Whilst I can see what you mean Pork's and I dont see why we should let these buggers win, that is our little area and so should it remain.
They should be the ones to desperse not us

This type of incident is easily combatted if stewards who are paid to do a job do just that and not watch the game. Check my post on Page One of this thread. (2nd post down) Its fair to say Jamo you had a few words with a Rochdale player last week with 10 mins to go. He seemed to give it back to you. The stewards and two police were no more than 5 rows from you, they laugh and let you get on with it, but all game they faced THE crowd.

Couldn't make the game yesterday as I was working, but I can totally sympathise with the frustration having seen it all too often. Makes you wonder what would have happened if the bottle had landed on the pitch? Then the Club would have had to have done something, especially if the ref reported it.
Can I suggest that JP, or someone who was there makes this point to the club? Maybe that will act as sufficient spur to get some proper Stewarding?

They should be the ones to desperse not us As I suggested earlier in the thread, there will be an opportunity to isolate the idiots by the singers that actually want to sing positive songs sitting elsewhere in the New Meadow.

This just reminds me of the Wycombe game at the end of January when some mindless idiot decided to shout racist stuff at Gus Uhllenbeek from the 'safety' of being amongst so called friends on The Wakeman End. What happened over that event? A pathetic and embarassing effort by the club by means of a half time announcment warning that such behaviour would not be tolerated. What has happened since then? Absolutely diddley squatt, nothing. There is still racist abuse handed out at random and there are still mindless idiots intent on spoiling an afternoon/evening out for the majority who go to The Meadow to support their local team. My point here is that there are very few stewards who actually do their job, ie - monitor and enforce spectator movements and behaviour, and also it seems that within the club itself there is very little being done to actually eradicate the problems by taking positive action. I sometimes wonder as to whether the club are happy to take the money at the gate and turn a blind eye to the immature and offensive behaviour that goes on within the ground. On several occasions I have spoken to a steward and even written to the club but still I see no positive response, infact I haven't even received acknowledgement from the club

It will be interesting to see if the club respond in any way to yesterday's incident, assuming of course that the stewards bother to report it, which is by no means certain.

I dont stand that close to that lot as most of you know bit seems to me that the booing has only made matters worse - they hardley ever used to sing that untill the booing started Now all the booing has done hes inflamed the situation where its provoked confruntion Bad as people think it is - Nothing will ever get dojne about it, as is the usual in the meadow lso its wecking the atmos on the Riverside recently I left my normal spot 10 mins into the second half and stood on the Wakeman so baord with it all was I Sadley like most things just egnoring it and hopeing it goes away and shying back from more confruntation seems the best approach Its a far cry fronm the atmos at the oxford game
