Adams in Wem 1960-64
Left at 14 to go "dahn sarf"
First break on first day at Forest in Winnersh penned in a corner of the classroom and asked "you a Mod or a Rocker". Coming from Shropshire I had no idea what either was so was tolerated as a village idiot rather than having to side with half the class against the other half. When eventually had to chose me and my mate became surfers (not easy in Berkshire when you can't swim)

Priory School of Caning 1963--1970. Managed to "earn" 14 strokes during my time there. 1. 6 for smoking in the toilets. 2. 4 for being 5 mins late for a maths lesson. 3. 4 for having the audacity to talk during assembly. It depended on who gave it to you. If CWEP did the deed the strokes were well spread. If it was Jock"deadeye"Scott,he managed to get them all in the same area. After the punishment it was the done thing to rush down to the senior bogs, drop your kegs and see the bruise pattern on your arse in the mirrors. Happy days!!!

A Grammar school called Shrewsbury Technical High School, from 1958 to 1963. The school was renamed "The Wakeman School", when I was in the 3rd year, after Sir Offley Wakeman, who was probably chairman of the school governors, at the time. Played in goal for all age groups of the school football team, and returned later to play for the old boys, against the school. The keeper at the other end was Terry Gennoe, who I later followed into the Bricklayers Sports team, when he joined Blackburn.

st Giles primary, then Priory leaving in 1976. Am I the only one to have a good word for it?
It changed after CWEP left in 1970, and moved into the 20th century.

I think copying yours and Gareth Ileys maths work got me my GCSE in it. Good job i'm not an account now As for the drinking the teachers always said we were a funny year, mind you i bet they said that to most years as well.

This isn't Bobby Treherne is it? If so you grossly under estimate the number of strokes you got mate, you've missed a 0 off! No chance of that - he has written to Shropshire Star about hating his time there. I was at Priory from 1964 -1971. I don't recall being caned, but plenty of detentions.

Priory in the first year that it was all mixed. Still had a lot of the Girls school logos everywhere. Imagine the poor buggers who were the first boys. Being a first year boy in a school full of girls right up to sixth form level. Also barelöy knew anyone there as I should have gone to Meole but my sisters went to Priory so they thought I should. Had quite a good time there though mind.

Used to play netball against St Peters! (and beat them!) Also swam against them in the schools county championships, and chucked a rounders ball at the county athletics. Can't remember if we played your lot at badminton or tennis though. Did you play in the Woodley Carnival tournaments? Would you have ended up at Bulmershe, Maiden Erlegh or Suttons if you had stayed there? Bulmershe as it was the closest to where we lived. Last time we played Lodden at football pretty sure we won 8-2. Might have to get my mum to dig out the old school magazines. Don't remember the Woodley Carnival but do remember taking part in the District Sports.
