The ground regulations also state you are not allowed to join in with racist abuse and yet we all know people who conststently flout this and yet nothing happens to them.
I am less offended by a camera.

Last time I read the ground regulations you weren't allowed to take an umbrella into the ground as it's potentially dangerous.

Whitters is right on this point yes.
But the club are wrong to flout some ground regulations while making a big deal about others.
I think a quiet PM or text message to Geoff would suffice, not to threaten him about his potential work experience being taken away.
Somehow it is easier to crack down on a 14 year old with a digital camera than it is a six foot racist.
I know that is nothing to do with Whitters, he is quite within his rights to do what he wants and it is his call. he is the media manager and he is trying to protect Geoff.
I just all seems a bit odd. I get told off for standing on a yellow line while someone else can shout "get back to your curry house" at an asian referee and the same steward who told me off minutes before just ignores that comment, even when it is reported to them.
It is a crazy world out there, I'm not trying to pick on Whitters because he is one of the good guys, I just wish other people the ground regs as seriously.

After considering the matter, I have come to the conclusion that I was wrong to post up the pictures.
I accept that some people may be affected and in future I will refrain from doing so.
But, To claim that one post was 'Totally out of order' and bring some work-experience into the equation is a tad pathetic.
Also, note my Dad can't defend himself. He has never posted on B&A.
It's a shame that some pictures posted for intentionally good reasons have been completely fcuked on.

dave, nowhere have i 'cracked down' on geoff, all i've done is point out things to him which could affect a future career in the media.. the b&a way seems to be to publically highlight things on here so i'm following that route if you have regaularly witnessed racial abuse at the meadow then continuially report it, if nothing gets done then the club is letting you down so go to the papers.

Fair enough,
not an easy job, as you are the one point of contact between here and the club, so its always likely to happen, but i think that in someways little bits of helped offered by B and A users have helped to make your job a little bet easyer at times too???

That is a fair point about the programme Ian. maybe we should have a new sub board for "mistakes you want to make whitters aware of without being nasty"

fao stfc my view is b&a attracts fans down to the gay meadow they alert fans of events supporting stfc they advertise stfc stfc get free adverts and links on b&a b&a make no money out of stfc if we set www.shrewsburytown.premiumtv.co.uk/page/Home as a censored word to block the link then i'm sure stfc etc might stop jumping up and down when we post 'illegal' stuff when we start putting 'fanzine' profits in our pocket then moan, until then maybe stop using the only fanzne member that did put money into his own pocket pilchy, you more than entitled to block shrewsweb with your filters, please do it if that's what b&a want to do i have no problem what so ever with it... i'm reading the last point as a dig at me for using fagin to write for the website and programme, is that correct? persoanlly i don't give a monkeys what a fanzine does with it's money..i'd have thought giving the money to the something like shrewstrust would be better as fanzines are meant to be subversive and away from the club? in all the posts i've never asked for anything to be taken down, all i've done is point out the legal points. if geoff, yourself and whoever wants to regualrarly put up several pages of match action pictures onto the board then do it, i'm not going to report you. i didn't say we are going to block the link i was just indicating it would be just as petty as moaning about cameras in grounds i love it when a night air shot of a ground is showed and flashes are going off like theres no tomorrow, when it costs a club money i agree they should jump up and down but until then its just a case of 'jobsworth' and yes i was moaning about you using fagin no wonder your laptops went missing (joke)

when you point out the legalities we have to act, for all we know you are also contacting proboards telling them that you've warned us and want to take legal action Ian did make a point of saying he wasn't going to report it, he was just pointing out the facts. This has generally been an interesting and educational thread for those of us who have little idea of the rules, but occasionally take a digital camera to grounds.

I think the law is quite clear on this. If I take a photograph than I automatically own the copyright of that photograph (unless I am taking it as part of my employment or I have signed it away to someone else), and that would apply if I that photograph inside Gay Meadow. Now, Shrewsbury Town may have a no camera rule, in which case they would be in their rights to throw me out of the ground and bar me from ever coming again. However, that does not alter the fact that the photos I'd taken before that happened belonged to me and were my copyright. Similarly, the club could do nothing at all if I or someone else found a vantage point from outside the ground in a public area with a good zoom and managed to take pictures inside the ground. I wouldn't be breaking any law and I would own the copyright on the pictures.

while most people may not know the full story. I fail to see how an incident with fagin has anything to do with Geoff and photos. Whilst it would be good if the matter was resolved publically once and for all, it does noone any good to continually have unsubtle digs at the lad

I can that you are stuck between a rock and a hard place with some people in regards to what you post / how you post it on here. I think the rules are pretty clear, & if Geoff has been in comms with Ian previously about posting images then he really shoud heed those words of advice, regardless if hes 14 or 84.

I can that you are stuck between a rock and a hard place with some people in regards to what you post / how you post it on here. i tend to put 'personally speaking' or the like when it's my thoughts but tend not post to a lot of things i would like to.. i never get involved in discussions about the players, tactics etc as it wouldn't be the tight thing to do, i will post the odd thing like on saturday when someone was on about players out of position but forgetting those players had played in the same postions for the previous 3 games. i tend to reply to discussions about the club where i think i can clear something up or stop a pointless discussion. think most people think i come over as a **** but hey ho that's life

As someone very close to the situation for all sorts of reasons I find stuff like this really insulting. And Rob - where are the continual digs? Maybe two or three, mostly from guests, in the last 3 months? I would say that was pretty restrained given the circumstances. Of course it is very awkward for him, but equally it could be a lot lot worse. No-one wins in a situation like this, it isn't an easy ride for anyone. and yes it would be good if things were resolved publicly once and for all, I completely agree. There should be significant progress very soon.

I wouldn't be breaking any law and I would own the copyright on the pictures. lets get back to the logistics and not fagin ! Steve - you are absolutley right.. except one thing. Its not 1975 down the meadow anymore, its 2006. Take it as if Town were playing Chelsea live on BBC and someone from ITV had got in and filmed again. Basically they would be thrown out and prosecuted because BBC brought the rights to film the game. There have been many arguments about shooting and filming in public arenas but in my book me taking pics at GM is the same as me coming to your private residence and taking pictures. Taking pics in a public place is one set of law.. but I am entering a private establishment that unless I pay as a fan, or have media access to, I can not enter. When you enter the ground, if the laws are up on the walls of the riverside or not remains a different issue - and DO YOU REALLY want to drink a hot coffee from McDonalds like in the USA with WARNING HOT DRINK so you cant sue them if you scold yourself - but STFC play in the Football League and are goverened by the League restrictions which are no filming, no pictures - games are covered by SKY, no other websites are allowed to report the match except the official ones or those who pay for dataco stats like BBC etc. Liverpool FC often moan at an agency as they stand in trees to shoot Gerrard training for the Daily Star, Mirror and Sun but subsequently they are banned from shooting actual games at Anfield. Talk Sport is a prime example in the BBC have rights to broadcast from the ground, and TS commentate from monitors in the studio getting around the rights issue. Technically if you rang Beacon Radio from the terraces and gave a report live from the ground you would be breaking severe rules as the BBC have broadcast rights from the ground. Its Shrewsbury Town's 'house' and what is filmed, recorded, photographed, advertised is up to them. Like Whits, I was simply pointing out the wrongs of what was done as I simply dont want Whits or the club getting into trouble - as they will if found out and the consequences are not nice. Shoot the Meadow and record your own memories for prosterity but just dont produce a 50 page unofficial publication as you will get done and STFC will get done by the League for allowing unaccredited people in the ground. Publishing laws apply to the internet too.
