Could I ask a favour of the B and A community
A number of you have stated a desire to get a top kit manufacturer to do Town's strips and merhcandise.
As an exercise for the Umbrella Group, could you help us, buy getting information on clubs that have Nike kits or other top brands that are similar clubs to ourselves. Thinking of York, Accrington etc.
What we need to know is
1. Does being with such a supplierb limit numbers of shirts, delivery etc.
2. Are the club limited by the garments they cna have. Ie Rhyl for example can only have certain products. If they want other gear say raincoats they cant because the contract says only the kit manufacturer can supply, and if the kit manyfacturer doesnt do it, its tough.
3. What is the feedback from clubs such as York, Hereford, Accrington. Are Nike really that good?
If you could do this I would really be very thankfully. Please send all your info to als_salop@yahoo.co.uk
Many thanks

This needs looking at because I haven't bought a shirt since the last patrick home one and its starting to look a little tatty! I did get bought the white away shirt by MG (round neck) for my birthday but it was so badly made I took it back to Sports and Games (by The Exchange) to get a replacement. I tried on and looked at a number of the same shirt and they were all awful, even the bloke in the shop agreed and I ended up just getting my money back. Since then I will not buy MG sportwear stuff. Well done for finally bringing this up!!

It doesn't necessarily have to be Nike. I reckon Puma make nice football kits.

I agree, any major kit supplier. Lets see what other clubs do. But stick to the criteria. It is importnat about merchandise rights too. - see my bit about Rhyl
It's in response to Stuttgart Shrew article in B and A 2. The club have there reeasons for staying with MG. Closeness of supplier, not tide to having to pay for stock upfront etc. The question has always been about quality. From the research you guys carry out, this will form the basis of the reply from the Commercial Group in the next B and A, and laos something that we can put as a proposal to the Club.

How about UMBRO, at least they are a British firm, lets keep our money in the country and support British jobs.

How about compiling a want list and putting it out to tender? Let them compete for the business. I don't know anything about the sportswear business and wonder why sportswear company sales execs are not beating a path to the Gay Meadow Also wonder why something so important is not handled by the Commercial Dept.

Nike supply an incredible amount of lower league clubs, Grimsby, Hartlepool, Southend, York, Accrington, Tamworth to name but a few.
Errea supply to a lot of clubs at our level, but do they count as a 'top quality' sports manufacturer?
Kiddy wear Admiral, were going to have Nike on board for this season until they were offered a design which was exactly the same as last year's Manure shirt so they declined, last year they had Le Coq Sportif, MG Sportswear are based in Kidderminster, NUFF SAID.
Rochdale wear Uhlsport, not bad?
Xara, TFG, Vandanel, Paulas Benara, Pro Star, Strikeforce, Carlotti, Sporta and Garman also supply kits to clubs in League Two, whether they are any better than MG Sportswear or not I dont know.

A point worth noting is that the material used for our red (third choice) shirt is quite good, but then it would be considering its exactly the same material used for the old England away 'reversible' shirt.

the arrows on our shirts dont look tatty to me they have a nice gel effect - very smart and very good quality - the overall range of stuff they have supplied us with is great such as tracksuits, jackets, jumpers etc have a word with shakey

The deal with Hereford and Nike is that M&M Sports are sent a pile of basic all white Nike football strips, which leaves M&M with the task to print the badge and Sun Valley logo on them, I think this is the case with most lower league clubs who wear Nike.

think the question you have to ask is can we design the kit and use none standard colours i.e. amber.

Well, we made a rats arse of the last home shirt anyway, so maybe we should just ask can they do blue and amber stripes.

You don’t trust them to come up with a decent design do you? The fools voted for a shirt we’ll hardly wear last time!

I can vouch for Xara being a really really good make They make Norwich Citys merchandise and everything I have ever had has been top quality, and a big range of stuff too They also come up with pretty innovative kits, the new away shirt incorporates lots of new features www.canarystore.co.uk

I think the biggest question is will they let us have our own design and colour, I doubt it?

TBH you say our shirt is very dull yet yours is all blue with a badge and sponsor and the odd orange line - hardly vibrant and exciting id say? My point is someone suggested "even AFCTU have Hummel" when actually, the kit is white with a black goat sown onto it that doesn't exactly float my boat, and is not a good example of what we may be missing out on
