Our team coach left Gay Meadow at 10.30 this morning. Excellent. The correct time to do so. However, it was going to go on some kind of mystery tour eventually going up the M6 on Boxing Day in treacherous weather conditions, picking Kevin Street and David Walton up at Keele Service. Absolutely ridiculous planning. The ASFC team were able to get to the Gay Meadow for 8am to get to Bury. Volunteers were clearing the pitch at Gigg Lane at 9. Unfortunately, we don't seem to have players able to get to Gay Meadow for 10.30. Just another kick in the teeth. How many more?

Perhaps this is one aspect that GP has to look at and put right, ot at least make some alterations to how we do things.
Personally I have never heard of a team coach doing a mystery tour to pick up players on route.
Looks unprofessional. Makes us look like a mickey mouse set up. Surely players should be travelling together?

Ever read "Left Foot Forward" by Gary Nelson? It would seem picking up players enroute to games is common practise.

Ever read "Left Foot Forward" by Gary Nelson? It would seem picking up players enroute to games is common practise. That may be so but common practice does not make it right. Seem to remember there has been talk before about players not training together and not travelling together. All this hardly improves team bonding and morale does it? Seems there are also comments being made about the coach being past the accident and waiting for players to meet it. GP deciding not to continue cos we would not have had a full team. Would love to ask him if this happened, but know that we would not get a proper answer.

GP was at Gigg Lane. Also might be worth reading a post by the press officer at Gigg Lane on the "Incompetent travel arragements" thread.

I know he was there, heard his interview and have read the post you mention. However I didnt say he was on the coach, I said he made the decision about the coach waiting for the other players. It seems he travelled on his own!

But Peters is hardly going to tell anybody the truth is he so the press officer would only hear what they wanted him to hear!

There are at least 3 routes to North Manchester from Shrewsbury. Yes, and the M6 would feature in none.

Yes, and the M6 would feature in none. Well no sensible route would, but if you have to pick up two players from keele services it might have to?

Pick up at Keele then hit the M6 just in time for the jam between 16 and 17. Of course not everyone listens to Radio 5, or local radio, maybe the coach driver had some Classical music on the relax the players so missing the traffic reports

the coach picks up at the meadow, goes m6 to pick-up the birmingham based lads, then up the m6 to pick up the crewe based lads.
the ones who were already at the ground, rids, mossey, ashton, granty, gp are based liverpool/machester, took rids about 30-mins to get to the game.
we went m60 and took the wrong route s/e, got us there in with a clear run, if we'd gone the right way would have got stuck in the james from 11/17.
when we got to j17 there was a dog running around the carridgeway, there was also accidents on the m56 from chester on the way up but luckily on the other carridgeway.

don't suppose anyone thought to ring them up on their mobiles to tell them to make their own way there. I mean it ain't far from Crewe to Bury. Unless they go via Doncaster.

I mean it ain't far from Crewe to Bury. that was two players, would have meant we'd have 6 players.

Unless they go via Doncaster. why do that when almost all our forwards are injured they had been driving round the country for 6 hours until they found an accident to get stuck behind ;D ;D ;D

Yeah but c'mon, we are, after all, a pub team so we could of grabbed 5 of the ASFC who had their boots and played them. Of course if they got booked they'd have to remember the name they were playing under

You misunderstand me Ian. Like all good pub teams this time of year(It's the weather I reckon) only half a dozen turn up so you ring round or get your two left footed brother to play to make up the numbers. You give them the names of registered players. For example Tim Gallon could of been Sam Aiston

Surprised that:
a) The coach driver wasn't listening to traffic reports
b) The coach goes on a detour for a few players. Street and Walton are Crewe based - who is in Brum that could play today?

Didnt Mr Peters say that we had to pull together as a club? just to get out of this mess we find ourselfs in as a club? we do indeed need to be a little MORE profesional in my opinion all, yes ALL the players INCLUDING the manager have a duty to be at there post to start work no matter where that post is, in this case the said post should have been the meadow at latest 0900, they are muppets controlled by the muppet master Mr Peters, i am totall not happy by this showing, the latest in a line of cock up by stfc management and players

So the team coach left Shrewsbury at 10:30am and then farted around the midlands picking other players up, s'that right? The BBC report that the crash on the motorway occured at 10:30am...I'm sure news would have got out about the accident by at least 11:00am. Meaning they had plenty of time to make plans and take an alternative route...as I gather, a fair few Town fans did? If they can't figure that out then there' s no ****ing hope for any of us...
No excuses as far as I can see, seems they were not on the motorway at the time of the accident...if a fair few hundred Town fans can get there then they should have been able to do so as well. Nowt but a joke and an embaressment...
