me me bloody me
do you hear the ones who ALSO went on the M6 route who also encountered the said traffic jam moan..?
the world does not revolve around you welsh shrews.. today the world revolved around some unfortunate people who were in a 16 car pile up as people's lives were at stake. At least there is another opportunity to play the game again. Someone is going to have a bad new year after being air lifted to hospital I think
chill dude

Have to admit I have read some nonsense on here over the years, probably written some of it myself, but some of this stuff really is the dogs biscuits.
Me get real???.come on for God's sake,sh$t happens, all this we should have done that,we should have done this etc,etc its complete rubbish.
As Matt says, and others, how do you know that would have worked?? and things would have been different. You dont and never can,its unbelievable the stuff on here tonight.
Personally its all about this new Blame Culture we are living in IMO and it sucks.
Rant over, I cant read or contribute to anymore on this subject I'll end up in bloody Shelton.

I would have players at the Gay Meadow for 10.30am, then I would travel on the A5, A483, A55, M53, M56, M6, M62, M60, and get to Bury at 12pm. so you would pull everyone into the gay meadow, even granty who lives in manchester, even though you agreed that was wrong earlier... i did see the smiley but asked what you would do differently, 12 is ok if eveyone is meeting for a pre-match before the game but a little early for a 3 kick-off

But I would have expected players like Walton and Street to make their way to Gay Meadow for the time of departure of the bus. I used 10.30am purely because that was the time Gary Peters said the bus was leaving there, and people keep telling me that the M6 was just as quick......

In the good old days, the coach would have left GM at 9am to get to Bury for 12pm to have their pre-match meal at a local hotel/resturant, but I gather they have their meals on the coach now to 'save money'. At 12noon yesterday on the M6 electric signs around Stafford it just said J16-17 was closed, it didnt say there was a massive tailback from J15 to J16? We decided to get off at J15 anyways as we could see a large tailback in the distance beyond J15, never in our wildest dreams did we imagine our team coach would be caught in that tho It was extremely frustrating because the M6 after J17 was virtually deserted, if they made their diversion and got back onto the M6 on J17 at a time like 3pm, they would have reached Bury by 3.45pm, Graham Barrow also said on Bury's official site that they were prepared to wait until 4.30pm for the game to go ahead, couldnt have this been possible? My thoughts are with those of the injured, at least we all got to Bury and back in one piece, even if it was a wasted journey.

you can exit the motorway at Keele services and continue your journey on another route .no problem. one of the only services where you can do that Thats not true - you used to be able but 2 years ago they stopped it and installed gates. (Person who drives bast Keele Service station every couple of weeks :-) )

It strikes me that any of you STFC fans that travelled HAVE a legitimate reason for a gripe! .......and any of you that didn`t or couldn`t be ars*d to go should butt out! If you pay money to travel and watch your team the least they could do is try and make an effort. Whats all this about pick ups on the way to games.......if a player lives away from his club it should be his responsibility to either get to the club before the coach departs or make his own way there! Do you have chauffers to bring all of your players to training sessions...no, so why pick them up en route to games? If brian clough RIP were your manager he would have had all of your team outside GM at 07.30 with boots blacked ready to go! .....Only jealous wish HUFC would have thought of it!

One thing is for sure, if there is a financial penalty - be it a fine or compensation to Bury - can think of a certain football chairman who will make sure that a similar odyssey does not occur. For instance when Shrewsbury is nearer to the destination than where players live then they will have to report to the Gay Meadow and get the coach there.
In his original post Paul says people are looking for negatives at Shrewsbury Town - I think the point is this: you don't have to look too hard.

In a conversation I was having with Taffy last night, one idea was suggested was that maybe the players who live away from Shropshire could rent accomodation in Shrewsbury/Shropshire if 3/4 of them shared? So this could be a way to get every player to report at GM for away games, I think Ian Stevens rented a flat/house in Shrewsbury even tho he lived in Lancaster.

Please, all of you, just calm down. What happened has happened. The accident was obviously tragic for some people and that should always be remembered. Also that it could have happened on any motorway, road, or any route to Bury yesterday and someone we know could have been involved including the team coach. So just be grateful that no-one we know was involved.
Before I say anything else I would like to point out that I had to leave home at 10am yesterday and take a very long route to Shrewsbury to catch the coach as I live out in the sticks of South Shropshire with yesterday 3 inches of snow and ice everywhere.
OK when I got to Bury and was told the team hadn't arrived I though 'WHAT?'. However, I had the good fortune to meet GP outside the ground on his mobile trying to sort things out and he explained what was happening.
We paid £1 each, went into the social club, had a great time catching up with friends and chat and took the chance to investigate the facilities with a view to the future at the New Meadow - so not an entirely wasted journey. I have not been inside the Bury Ground and still haven't - so I'll be glad to visit on another occasion even if it is raining.
I don't know the rights and wrongs of picking up players but I do have the faith in GP to know that if he feels things can be improved he will do it.
I remember the trip to Carlisle too and remember that the delay came the day after I had bragged to everyone at work who said I must be mad to travel that far 'oh it's no problem, you just get on the M6 and keep going north'!!! Well the following day taught me that you can't legislate against fate!!
One more point, I was also on the coach that was delayed for the Bristol Rovers trip and I remember noting most definitely that the traffic reports were at least 30 minutes behind events as they were happening. In fact, I think that we were nearly at Bristol when Radio 5 gave out that the incident was over the and the lanes were open.
Please, please, put yesterday behind us and get behind the team for tomorrow - I suspect that Darlington are not going to be push over.

Schizo says "why dont your players rent local accommodation?" A very good question Your reply "as above" My how knowledgable you are Do you know what they earn? ...i suspect they dont do too badly! Are they not proffesional players?...and as such be treated as adults not a pub team being picked up "on the way"! Why shouldn`t they move closer?...if they had any other reason to play for your club other than the money they would do so! If they moved why should`nt their wives and kids do so to?...hundreds of thousands of people migrate to where the work is are STFC players exempt?

contracts of year, worth the trouble, well the whole subject is boring now, I still think the club have done bugger all wrong, those 10 mins in front were through the traffic, those 10 mins behind the coach were able to detour. simple really,

Crikey, what happened yesterday is being blown out of all proportions IMO.
I'm a little dissapointed that the players don't get to the emadow and travel together however, there was a major crash on the M6 which prevented the bus getting to the match on time.
Things things happen, get over it and start thinking about the real major disasters that have happened in the last day or two......

Some fans actually spend a hell of a lot of their very hard earned money to get to these away games Matt, dont forget you dont have to pay to get in. I agree that the postponement of the game pales into insignifance compared to the crash but I've never heard of a League game being called off because the away team cant make it, I think it makes STFC look very amateurish and as all the Bury fans were slagging our travel arrangements off in The Staff Of Life I felt embarrassed to be a Town fan. For away games, the best way of preparing for games is to leave the GM for a certain time and get to their destination at least 3 hours before the match so they can enjoy a pre-match meal at a local hotel, this way at least we know the team have arrived in the town for the match in good time, I dont know if the team coach could be sponsored by anybody but these games have to be prepared for properly, I was bloody well angry when I heard of the postponement yesterday and I still am to an extent but nothing can be done about it now so here's to 3 points against Darlo to forget about this sorry episode

Agreed - although I still make a definite distinction between arguing to our heart's content on here (and this has been a truly fabulous argument) and getting behind the side at the game. I was particularly impressed with the lack of yellow cards at the TNS game given the amount of filthy tackles, punches and elbows being bandied about ;D 3 points eh Salop?

Ah football like it should be played. Thought the referee was stricter than usual yesterday in that there were actually a few fouls blown for. Enjoyed the game immensly and a well deserved result. If I am not careful I can see my second team (TNS) becoming my first. £5 in, nice tea and a beautifully icy rain storm!
