Robert Henderson, who did much freelance writing for crickey publications up until the mid 1990s, has written this on Usenet. Seems like I'm not the only one...
Amidst the outcry over the racist chanting at the England Spain game one thing is missing: no one is asking why football is the one sport where this is commonplace.
I would suggest the answer lies in the fact that a football match is the one place left where the white working class can easily gather en masse and express their uncensored views. Anywhere else and they run the risk of being brought before the courts or sacked from their jobs, so complete and successful has been the elite censorship of any anti-immigration, anti-multiculturalism dissent.
Since 1945 the British elite has forced mass coloured immigration onto the masses, who have been utterly against such an intrusion into their society. This is unsurprising because it is the poorer members of our society who have had to take the brunt of the ill-effects of the immigration while the elite, who are supposedly devoted to the joys of diversity, take very good care to live in very white, very middleclass world.
The racist chanting at football matches is best seen as a protest by those outside the elite against mass immigration and its consequences. RH TEXT

To echo Ian, why delete it?
The article does not support the chanters (nor do I), but attempts to explain why it occurs.
For instance the oft heard chant in recent years when a team plays Oldham, Bradford, Leicester etc. may be offensive but it is simply a reflection of the views of those who dislike the rapid and wholesale changes of many English towns.
How else can they protest en masse at this?

This is bollox and should be deleted.
Read it, then read it again, this is encouraging and making excuses for the animals who chant racist abuse.
How come we, sorry, the moderators, still allow this t**t to air his nasty and repulsive views on this message board?
Why is it, that when there is a group of them at football matches chanting their nasty little songs, so many on here quite rightly vent their anger, and yet you allow this moron to chant his nasty little songs on here.
To you apologists, if cynical shrew was at a match chanting his offensive views, would you say anything or just ring your hands and try to ignore it, just pretend you cant here it.
Would you allow a paedophile preach his disgusting beliefs on here.

Fail to see how people who attend the likes of Chelsea and Arsenal can be classed as working class. And as far as working class is concerned its a social group that has been decreasing in size since the 1970s. There is no excused for ignorance. And actually immigrants do vital jobs the sort of jobs, that are so badly paid and have such a bad perception around them that the lazy, fat, good for nothing, social state claiming tosspot refuses to do, as working is not as benificial as claiming benifit and watching daytime tv

You know, I used to think this Cynical Shrew was one of the dangerous ones- not just a facist t**t, but one with a brain. But that tired old s**t he posted just demonstrated that he is, in fact, merely a poisonous old Mail-reader with bits of his DNA missing. Find some nazi rantings dressed in a pseudo-academic style, copy them and paste them into a message box. Et voila - a brilliant, poignant ripost to the deluded, degenerate liberals who will insist on defending the subhumans from the oppressed aryan masses. What a . Tell me Cynical, is all this bitterness some Freudian knee-jerk response to the fact your mum's been getting a good seeing to by that old Jamaican guy down the Day care centre, and you're worried his willy's bigger than yours? Well relax old chap, that's just as much a racial myth as the bollox you peddle on here.

Would you allow a paedophile preach his disgusting beliefs on here. I see where you're coming from Pab, and as someone who's working life is spent promoting anti-discrimination and human rights issue, I'm hardly going to argue with you're sentiments. I do think though, that there is something in the view that the more these issues are debated in the open, the more the extremist, brain dead, elements are exposed as blatant racists. This is because their attempts to put forward socio-economic arguments to support their case always end in humiliation. I think there is a difference between an indivdual posting on a board like this and a mob chanting abuse at a football ground. That amounts to intimidation and abuse to someone (on the pitch) who can't answer back. On here Cynical can post his views - make himself look an @rse as usual, and others can tell him what they feel. I guess it's the old question of "How much freedom can you remove, to protect that same freedom?" Buggered if I know the answer.

Let him post his cut & paste racism dressed up as socio-political commentary - he's in a minority of one on this board and he knows it well so I'm not sure why he bothers, but whatever floats his boat. Just ignore him I say.

I'm just puzzled as to how one can identify racism at football matches as a purely working class phenomenon - I'd say there was a fairly diverse spread of fans (at shrewsbury anyway), not to mention the diversity of the social positions of 'immigrants'. It's completely blindsighted to ignore the vast amounts of medical staff, doctors and surgeons who have come to this country to flog the dead horse of the NHS, the amounts of succefful immigrants, professionals, family owned businesses, etc. It's just a fact that some ethnic groups outstrip british kids at all levels in education - chinese, indian & pakistani exams results are several percent higher than those of 'whites' across the board. It's certainly ridiculous to suggest that working class white men should resent immigrants 'poaching' their livlihoods - what about womes increasing role in the service sector and job market in general? nobodys shouting sexist chants from the terraces. There is no excuse for racism, no justifying it's presence on the terraces, if you want to debate about it cynical shrew then I suggest you do it somewhere else

Can't see the need to delete it, it's not offensive as such as it is trying to explain why racism is so prevelent in football. It's a view that obvioulsy many dont agree with but its a view nevertheless.
Isint controlling free speech a part of facism??

Don't delete him, he reminds liberals like me who enjoy our multi cultural, multi ethnic world what nasty things lie under the rocks.
And before he goes on about the 'working class', both my grandfathers were farm labourers and my great grandfather was an economic immigrant from Kilkenny.
