Not a criticism but shouldn't this have been decided long ago?
I know theres always changes from original plans but I would have just thought that something like this would have been included at the beginning - in fact I was convinced that the social club was part of the plans until Roland said he hoped for one to be at the NM @ the forum.
I should think that something along the lines of Walsall/Notts County (more serving though!!) would be excellent. Theres not a lot around the ground currently and although I do think this will change in time the club have got to try and make as much profit as possible.
Also agree on getting SKY for it, you only have to see that some pubs around the ground without SKY are quiet until 2ish when people move there from a pub that has got SKY and the lunchtime game has finished.

Would deffo use it before and after match.
I recon we could easily justify a venue of 400-500 people. Walsall's club would be something of a good comparison.

As an exile it's pre-match only and then only if it serves Real Ale.

Jamo - honest truth - we don't know.
But again you're right that there needs to be bars inside selling booze and with TVs showing STFC games or Sky or Grandstand or whatever.
We get 1 chance at this.

a pub type would be best as every one as said but a room for functions/weddings attached would be good for making money. it does need to be open all week to get people in after 5 aside etc . id probly pop in on match days but would also like bars under the stand like stoke i must admit id probly use them more than the club/pub inless i was making a day of it.

The 3 of us travelling from Alty would use it, but only if it big enough for us to get a seat and there were no long queues at the bar.
Otherwise we will probably park near the Brooklands, drink there and walk across to the ground.

Yes definitely pre & post match - my postcode would preclude many non-match day attendances Agree wih Tel & others in terms of what we need is : - capacity for 500 as absolute minimum, given Roland's aim is to get us into the Championship we should be aiming for min 1000 (look at capacity of the likes of Dagenham & Farnborough - we should be aiming for the next level at least from that) - decent & well priced beer & food is essential, where I think the fans groups should be consulted on requirements here & there needs to be a fully transparent tender process to hopefully ensure that we do not have to endure more of the slop that is our present catering. - be well staffed in terms of numbers & experience : 2 good bar staff can run a place a damn sight better than 6 cheap people dragged off the street who don't know what they're doing - Sky on large screen(s) is essential as are other TV's/screens for those who prefer to watch rugby, racing etc - other pasttimes to take cash (fruit machines, pool tables, jukebox?), dartboards, dominoes, the usual stuff - separate smoking room/bar for those who need to indulge in the weed (obviously won't be able to serve food there ) - plenty of seats & tables (often the little things are forgotten !) - somebody who knows how to advertise & market the place properly to maximise its income potential both on matchdays and more importantly for other functions (sportsman's dinners, AGM's, wedding receptions?, parties etc)

agree if you dont get the service right people wont bother. terrible service in both the kiddy and notts county bars. i wouldnt go there if thats how they operate every week. youve either got to get the right staff in or get in one of those multi pint pulling machines you see at the cricket

Id deffo use it whenever it was available though living in Sutton unless street lights were put on Otley road I would mostly drive there at night restricting me to soft drinks
A venue like Cambridge had would be great £1 on the door for the days membership and/or an annual membership for home fans (would go some way to covering the cost of Sky - though obviously with capacity restrictions would not garuntee entry) decent size - good selection of drinks reasonably priced, hot food served, pool, darts etc also designated non smoking area for families

This is going to sound like a cheesy bit of SABC spin but what we are looking at here is " destination New Meadow" We are lookingfor the maximum amount of revenue on matchdays. that means serve me a couple of pints and lunch and you have raised my transaction value from £12 to £20 without breaking sweat and I think I have got a better experience out of it sdo am quite prepared to part with my cash Then during the week, dominoes, darts, pool, sunday league etc etc etc. This is an amazing opportunity for a 7 day money making venture for STFC and we would support it. Sky games, pub quizzes, team sports and people using the community pitches. It could be massive game on

How about a really big bar football game - seeing as its at a football ground?
The food bit is right. But somewhere that is kiddy friendly too please.

I would use it every matchday, before and after the match. SKY on a big screen would be good!
Hopefully the bar could sell some hot food as well (pies, chips etc)
Also get table football in, ala Farnborough and Exeter!
Is it too much to ask for?

i would be there before and after each match for sure
and if there was some sort of maggot racing and or milk bottle sculpture making facility, i would probably never leave!

but any idea on the current plans for the size of the supporters bar???
Would we get a greater say/have more influence if we were raising money for the thing?

I had the impression the supporters bar would be separate building from the stadium itself, situated close by (like they have at Walsall)...is this option not possible?

The best way to get facilities that...
1. The fans want 2. The promoters want 3. That makes money
is...
1. Ask the fans what they want 2. Ask the promoters what they want 3. Employ dedicated staff and a savey marketing manager. (If you rely on unpaid staff/managers/cleaners etc...and fans goodwill, you will never make the place pay!) you need people who are out to prove themselves and want to be successfull, this type of person doesn't knock on your door and work for nothing.
As a promoter, my view is a miniimum size of 500(1000 would be the optimum size), big open space with no fixed furniture and most importantly HIGH CEILINGS !
You need a space which is adaptable, also i cant believe the function room will be on the first floor, absolute madness unless there will be a large access lift, just think of all the events that involve moving stuff in and out of the room, promoters will be put off staging events if they cant get their equipment in and /or have to lug it all up and down stairs, it really will limit the kind of events the club can stage.

in my opinion it should be run primarily as a pub and then link it in to the club by having STFC as a theme that way you are more likely to get regulars coming in from the local area (sutton farm?!!) to drink there could do events like disco/karaoke/ maybe even bands or entertainment on special occasions like halloween, Xmas, new year etc - is there an entertainments licence for music?? show STFC videos maybe in the week when there isnt a game on - do we still get videos of all league games? might be interesting to show them a few days after a match depending on the result of course!! or alternatively tape Central Sports Special and show the edited highlights on a 4 second video loop...

So the 80 capacity supporter's bar is all we get Ian? If so, it's a disgrace. Let's just hope these plans ain't set in stone. Speak to us STFC! The function room will be used for corporate hospitality no doubt (no problem with that).

Shouldn't we be looking at maximising revenue for this place. The clowns 10 miles up the road have got their joshuas bar which is open most of the week serving pub food. Now if there was a bar/restaurant with a sporting/stfc theme in it, capable of serving good food / ale and at reasonable prices, not only on matchdays but throughout the year. Surely it would attract people shopping at the retail park over the road plus workers over lunchtime;as well as stfc fans on matchdays and for evening functions fotie games on sky etc etc...

I think there is a possible gap in the market for a sports bar in Shrewsbury, could this supporters bar fill that, may be a good little earner, a sports bar with an STFC theme??? Obviously you would be looking at activities throughout the week. Live quite locally to the NM so would probably be interested.

Are there any planned bus services for the new meadow, back into town or on the S19 (if it is still that) to Bayston Hill. As a former Baystonian, I can say that i would be happy to take the bus there and back or even walk back if i was still living there. I have to admit i am getting a bit jealous of you while you are talking about this.
