It really makes me mad when people harp on about glory hunters, for crying out load do you really think its the same 4000 bods every fortnight down the meadow? I would suggest that town has a fanbase of at least 10-12000 interested supporters over a season. Lots of people gave up watching town for various reasons over the years butmay get a new spark for going and attend the big game at stoke, if we win then they may well stick with us next season and attend more often. Then theres the people who have never been before but have an interest in football, we were all that person once and look at some of us now, complete diehards that attend home and away come what may. My advice to all is to enjoy the additional support while we have it as we may well see crowds below 3000 next season if we dont go up. For the record, i know quite a few people who have attended the last few games (home and away) that havnt been for years, they all consider themselves town fans but lost interest with all the s**te we have had to put up with, these people should be encouraged to come again - The more fans in the ground, the money we raise, the more money goes into team building. If we have a successfull side the attendance goes up and so does the standard of football and league we play in. to the Glory Hunters, they are the future of the town.

I totally agree with Kickin. 4,000 the average attendance may be but there will be many thousands who consider themselves to be Salop fans who either don't make many games during or a season or none at all. Of course there will be those going attending their first Town game too - but ask people on here how many of them went first to see Town because of a 'big game'. More the merrier I say

I have to agree with Kickin on this one, the final can only help boost the fan base for our return next year ( I hope) and hopefully bring back some supporters that we may have lost over the years.

You have to take a lot of stick from ignorant people for supporting Shrewsbury!
I got some stick last night from a lad I was teaching. He actually KNOWS another Shrews. supporter, too- his Mum has a friend who co-owns a restaurant in Liverpool- with a Shrews exile, who still supports WShrewsbury. (As you should- roots go deep!!!)
I just wink and say Shrewsbury's the choice of discerning people; people with taste!!
Yes- Since I support the team of my "roots", (and so does this other guy) I DOUBLY can't understand why people who still live in Shropshire- especially the Shrewsbury area- should even WANT to support Man-U or Arsenal.
I think they're wimps- they've got no guts to take the rough with the smooth. They are also shallow. They want to run with the crowd and are afraid of "peer pressure".
We whinge at times, but we hang on in there- and we just love 'em- end of story!

Agree with kickin and the other "more-the merrier" brigade, as long as they all sing!!
We have a hard-core of 3,000 or so.
I suspect that the number of other "loyal" supproters, i.e ones who have been to at least half a dozen home games this year (can't/didn't make more for lots of reasons) is another 3000. i.e any 1,000 of that 3,000 would be at a game (on average).
But if we only wanted these loyal supporters to go to Stoke we'd only take 6000.
I'm personally bringing about 5 mates - one who is new to the area but still has been to 4 games this season, others are people from Salop and who are either lapsed fans or have never been too bothered before. But they will all be there singing and supporting Salop.
With at least 12,000 tickets, the 6000 loyal fans should all get one. Over and above that everyone is welcome. Who knows, they may be next seasons loyal fans!
C'MON SALOP

I think someone else mentioned this on another thread, how many of todays town fans first game was Wembley in 96? Loads i bet. We all have to have our first match experience sometime and somewhere, mine was a 0-0 draw with swansea when iwas 8, the bug bit, if a couple of hundred "glory chasers" come away from stoke and get bit, bl**dy marvelous i say.

Have to say that this season alone has seen a greater increase in attendances, so obviously more people have taken an interest. If we were to go up it could act as a very good springboard for the future as many people will come back next season. I have some mates from school, who came to a few games last season (they are man United and Norwich fans). Now they dont go to many games, I think they've been to 2/3 this season, but they consider themselves to be more than interested in the club. People may have noticed that over the last 6/7 years there has been a steady increase in the amount of STFC shirts/coats/hats and scarfs being worn by people in the Town centre, this again shows that the club is creating more of an impression within the Town and amongst the youngsters. If we go back up this season, that last 3 seasons (including this one) will have been brilliant for the club. -First off we almost made the play-offs-everyone likes sucess and more people come out and watch a winning team -last season we got shead loads of publicity for getting relegated, and cup runs -this season has had a novalty factor, which I'm sure has contributed to increase in attendances, added in with a big play-off game. As you can see the last 3 seasons for STFC have been topsdy turvey to say the least and have seen in some cases huge media interest for the club. This will certanly have made the people of shrewsbury more aware of the football club, and as people begin to learn more about something they often become less hostile to it...

Hi Thirty, The reason I support the shrews is very simple - I was born in Leicester my dad is a leicester supporter he took me to my first match when i was 8 (the fac game against leicester in 1982) we lost but i felt really sorry for shrewsbury (as you do when you're 8!) and ive supported them ever since, much to my dads dismay!!!! I live in Lincolnshire due to work reasons. Katy

same here watfordshrew, all i get at school is the town are cr@p etc when most the people i get it off wouldnt know what supporting your team meant.
they say they are man u fans but that means they watch them on the premiership and buy their merchandise etc, whereas we watch our them every week no matter what and stick with them throuhout.
i even know a bloke who claims he is a man u fan and ive been to more man u games than him and i have only been to 1!

i get so much stick from other people from my school who support all these Premeiership teams instead of supporting their local team. and when i ask them y they support those teams, its usually cos theyre grandad was from that city/town so they should support them. i dont care where their grandad was born, they were all mostly born in shrewsbury so they are shrewsbury born and bred and i feel they should suport their local teams. when i was younger i started drifting to Man Utd cos that was the most known team around then but as soon as my dad catched onto this he got me down to the Meadow straight away. i spent the first couple of seasons in the family stand then when i was older i now stand in the riverside. i just hate glory hunters who support a team who theyve never seen them play other than on TV and they never will see them play. Que sera sera, whatever will b will b, we're goin to stoke city, to get in divison three!!!
