if there's one thing that annoys me - it's glory hunters, i see many people born and bred in shrewsbury, yet decide to support teams like man u. they keep sayin the town are sh!t - but i don't see how they can call themselves a fan, if the only reason they support them is because they win. take a town fan for example, we've ahd to endure heartbraking relegation and an awful season, but still come back in our thousands even in the conference. i wonder how many people would still support man u or arsenal if they were relegated? ??

I get so much stick for supporting the shrews - im 29 and my first game was the leicester facup game in 1982. I live in Lincs so it's not exactly a hotbed of football - am I classed as a proper fan or do u have to have been born in Shrewsbury? Hardly a glory hunter am I? Katy

yes, it's mildly annoying, but it gives the club money so I'm all for it. as long as they don't get on the player's backs..no probs....

there could be some loyal fans who miss out on an opportunity to get tickets for stoke for some reason, when one friend of mine who supports everton (2-1) has said all year long that he hates town etc...., but he'll be there.
i value their support, but feel it's unfair on people who deserve it more.

katy from lincoln...
i didnt say u had to be born in shrewsbury to be a fan
i said i was annoyed with people that only support a team for their success, because that defies the whole object of support - to SUPPORT your club even when they're at a low point
eg - look at that poor lad who supported leeds crying. he was from whitchurch which is miles away, but has missed 7 games this season (home and away)

I suppose you could class me as a part time fan - when it suits me. I have been to a few away games this season. Was there on Mon along with my Boyfriend who is a converted Town fan!!! Dad(Soupie) and bro(Welshshrew) take him along and he loves it!!! He'll be at Stoke - not Glory Hunting but he loves football

They have to know who the players are to get on their backs, mystic This reminds me of the replay v. Fulham in '94 (?). Paul Evans was sent off quite early on and a bloke in front of me on the Riverside said to his mate "Who's that?" His mate replied, "It must be Mark Taylor, he plays midfield"

gotta agree that glory hunters at the meadow are annoying especially when loyal fans are locked out, but the loyal fans were the ones that we're encouraged to get there early by the club, and so cannot really argue if they didn;t get in. They decided to go for another pint over watching the game! (apologies to anyone that had a genuine reason for not being able to get there early enough, i know you're all not alcoholics ) We can't honestly say we would take 12,000 genuine committed town fans to stoke. How many on here are taking a mate or two, or three? to experience the big day out. Wembley is one of my earliest and biggest memories as a town fan, 50 of my dads drunk mates is hardly a thing u can easily forget about!! ;D and that day propably gave me the footballing bug in the first place... whose to say these fans who haven't been all season won't get the bug after this trip.... .... that said, if i hear any glory hunter slagging off my hero's, they will instantly be ejected from the ground by my personally!!!!! ;D C'MON SALOP!!

RocketRodgers, How did you come to support our fine lads when you're in Lincs (Assuming you have no connection with Shrewsbury?) I'd like to know if there are many others like you with no connection. Jump aboard! I was born in Shrewsbury and had no intention of supporting a then 1st division, later premiership team far away.

Anyone turning out to see Salop should be encouraged, and not slagged off. Even if they don't know their Lowes from their Aistons. Even if they sound as if it's the first time they've ever left Kingsland.
We need as many fans as we can get.

They always call Ryan Lowe 'Brian' and Luke Rodgers 'Lee' because of previous mis-prints in the Chronicle (or something along those lines anyway).

I remember last season the BBC website reported Brian Lowe had netted a hat-trick against Bury, so I guess that explains that! I have to say Dale when I looked around at the fans before the shootout you looked more nervous than I had ever seen anyone before in my life

It was Skidder standing behind me then? Ah didnt notice, at the time I didnt want to risk cricking my neck by turning it to see who they were, one accident at the moment is enough

Just come back from Nottingham after watching 22-20s and Supergrass.
Was in a pub before the gigs and AMAZED at the amount of blokes and lasses in Chelsea shirts watching the UCL semi on TV.
Ill still support Belenesis even though Porto are in the final ;D

Jump aboard! I was born in Shrewsbury and had no intention of supporting a then 1st division, later premiership team far away. I've often wondered this to be honest, would like to know whether I'm the only Town fan who isn't from Shrewsbury or Shropshire. Although I guess I'm not too far away being from just across the border in Staffordshire... It was during the early 80s when I was at school that I started to sit up and take notice of the Town, making waves and ruffling a few feathers in the old 2nd division. Then I started taking more than a passing interest, I'd be keeping an eye on the Towns results, making efforts to learn as much as I could about the club and willing them on to win. It was in 1986 that I made me debut at the Meadow and attended my first match. My Dad, who works in Wolverhampton, made arrangements for us to visit the Meadow for Shrewsbury versus Wolves with some of his work colleagues. Town won 2-1 and that was it for me, I've been daft about the Town ever since. I guess that does make me a glory hunter!! ;D

In many ways i think this is a fruitless discussion because its one of those that goes round in circles with no end. People should just be content with their own level of support and committment and leave others to do the same. I will say though, that given the opportunity to see a crowd like last Mondays every week or the one against Gravesend i know which one i would opt for. Seeing lots of different faces at the meadow in no way spoils my enjoyment of the occasion.

it also sounds better when we score, if tehre are loads of people.
even if they don't know the player, they know what a goal is.
