Hereford have got to be favourites for the play-offs now by a country mile. I don't if that to some extent takes the pressure of Quinn to succeed, for the time being.
Given that your target was to bounce back to the league at the first attempt, either as champions or via the play-offs, will many of you want Quinn to stay if you meet Hereford in the final, give it your all, but lose to them after extra time and penalties?

As for Hereford being favorites, the play offs are a lottery, its how you are on the day, cup style football. Any four of the semi finalists will think they are favorites

Quinn's position is now secure at the club for next season I think. Only for the fact that the board would only settle for nothing less than the playoffs as a minimum this season. JQ is not the man to take STFC forward

If we lose in the play-off semi finals the anti-Quinn testament will start to run very high again, its strange because I think finishing third is not a bad finish for a first season in the Conference after relegation, we could have done a lot, lot better though I suppose, but nevertheless we have done okay and I can see JQ here next season, but if he is then he will be under enormous pressure and he knows it, the board have given him two years max to get us back in the League, hence signing a two year deal.

If we lose in the play-off semi finals the anti-Quinn testament will start to run very high again. I've been thinking about this Dale. Perhaps the poll should have been what is acceptable in the play-offs. I want Jimmy Quinn out as I don't believe he can manage because of his ego. I would be prepared to give him a second chance but for that we have to at least make the play-off final. In that final we would have to play with pride passion and commitment. If that happened I would give him another chance whatever the result. In giving him another chance, next season I would ecpect to see a settled formation and style of play. I would also expect to see a team that is fitter than part time sides.

Finishing third and getting in the play-offs is great and provides a good opportunity for promotion...although Hereford are clear favourites for the play-offs if the Town can get it right on the day then you never know...
But you only have to look at the points gap between us and Hereford and Chester to see that there is MASSIVE room for improvement!!
Chester 92 points Hereford 88 points Shrewsbury 72 points
...16 points is a huge gap...

I had a particular points target at the beginning of the season, which we will not reach. However reaching it would not have got us promoted automatically.
The play-offs are a lottery, and given our record against the teams around us, that is our only hope.
On the face of it the QuinnReaper has not built a side that can hold the better teams in this division - although having said that - and with the notable exception of Hereford - the better teams in this division have got a whole lot worse in the last few weeks.
It would be a massive injustice should any team other than Hereford go up - they have been fantastic in their run-in. Unlike the QuinnReaper's team they have seen the finishing line and pressed on towards it, whereas we have stumbled over it.
Therefore the interesting thing will be the nature of our defeat in the play-offs - do we go out with a whimper or a bang?
Either way, it will be a lot harder next season. Less money smaller crowds - the latter absolutely certain if both Hereford and Chester go up.
So I will vote yes to remain consistent. But I will clarify that by saying that the Conference was probably always going to be too low a base to turn around the club's fortunes. The hurdle of success - given the abject standard to which it has fallen - would be too high for all but the most special of footballing brains, such as the one southband on the A49. I certainly don't expect a snake-oil salesman to do it for us.
As important for fans reading this message and considering how to vote is to take the leap of imagination forwards 12 months and consider what position the football club is in then if a third year in the conference is to be contemplated.
Who may own it, and at what state will the New Meadow development be?
Let's say that this month the successful conclusion of the negotiations over the Gay Meadow releases money to ensure that the option on the New Meadow land involves a compromise on the old chestnut of "the developers will not get the keys to the Gay Meadow until we have the keys to the New Meadow" and the football club is given a time limit to build the new stadium and vacate the Gay Meadow.
This in a position where the football club remains committed to a 10,000 capacity stadium (unnecessary unless we get to Division 1), where development costs are bound to have gone up, and where certain funding sources are perhaps uncertain thanks to the loss of our Football League status.
Now that would be an interesting situation. One where the fans would be expected to organise fund-raising - and obviously should. However, the fans need also to start preparing for the worse, both in this matter and in the matter of people who have become more recently involved in the football club - and seriously consider forming a supporters trust, and channel any monies not directly to the club but via that strong independent organisation, representative of the view of the individuals who represent the long term future of the football club.

As ive said before as fans we find ourselves in a tricky situation. Yes, a play off place is assured now and a descent performance in the play off lottery will go a long way to easing the doubts of many fans. On the other hand, even yesterday, for the most part in my opinion, after the good play against chester, we played very poor football. Poor control, poor passing, ball watching, not picking up the loose ball, hump and hope. I obviously cant deny that ultimately, the result was very good. Im left asking myself, are things starting to come together now, if as a team we were just starting the season rather than finishing it, would we come into our own, or is a just a bit of an aberation. Quinn wont go now whatever. But what worries me most is, if at this time next year, we are still fighting for a play off place in the conference, after repeated poor performances on the field, will we be calling for his head or sat wringing our hands saying "well we have got a play off place lets give him time". So, my opinion is " well we have got a play off place, lets give him time"

Well that isn't true stue_p! He was co-manager of Reading when they finished second in div one a few years ago and lost in the play-off final having been 2-0 up (only one went up automatically that year).
He has also managed Swindon in div one and div two.

As fans we tend to live from game to game, happy if we win fed-up if we lose.
But we need to think longer term about the future of the club and the points raised by Sean are vitally important.
A supporters trust is essential and needs to have a strong position established before ownership of the club next changes hands.

Eeeeeeeer!?! Swindon and Reading and gained promotion with Swindon and i think possibly Reading. Will this anti JQ brigade continue into the third division next season if we go up or will you get behind him. Qualifying for play-offs in his 1st year when he did'nt even have enough players to make a starting X1 when he came to club 9 months ago is a bloody good acheivment.Admittedley at times some of the football has been cr@p but i fully beleive next year this team will really start performing whether it be in the league or conference

Re-arrange - over, eyes, pulled, wool!!
Some seemed to have changed their minds after Thursday night. The open, honest Jimmy Quinn show. Yeah right!!
As I stated on Saturday at 4.50pm, we have reached the play-offs in spite of JQ, not because of.
Still a yes vote for me. He won't walk and he won't be sacked so we are stuck with him. Let us hope some poor unsuspecting chairman comes along soon to poach him. They will certainly be taken in by his gift of the gab as was poor Roland and the rest of the board. I keep saying it and will continue to do so - HE AINT THE RIGHT MAN FOR THE JOB - end of.

Will this anti JQ brigade continue into the third division next season if we go up or will you get behind him. If we go up then no, but thats still a rather big if. If we do go up and play rubbish football then yes. He has a lot to do to win my support, if we win the play offs it will be a start.

I respect the man and think he is a very clever man.
The way he paused then mocked the guy who asked about what does Dave Cook do and his answer of he is the assistant manager which made everyone laugh made him take 80% of the audience into his hands. That person then just shut up and it would have taken someone with immense courage to carry on with the audience mocking him as well as Jimmys answer.
I would have more faith with a better backroom staff. Hes done good in getting rid of certain players.. but it is the way we play. We let in goals in the last 15 when we are the professional team who should be polishing off teams then.
On paper we have 11 talented players, but as a team I have HUGE questions. Anyone else agree..??
We have been riding our luck and something inside says we will defeat Hereford in the final - that will give him until Christmas I think.
If we fail in the play-offs, I think Christmas will be D-Day unless we are on top of our game and look promotion candidates with consistancy. Forget the first 2-3 months.. Nov/Dec will be the time to decide.
PS respect Martin Berry. I totally agree.

i'm surprised at 38% wanting him out
imagine how hereford are feeling now ?
they may as well have slipped up here and there like we did
they are now no better off than we are at all
chester were overall by far the better team in the league
2nd,3rd,4th & 5th are the same thing we got 3rd
something no-one would have turned down before the season started

As I stated on Saturday at 4.50pm, we have reached the play-offs in spite of JQ, not because of. I don't see the logic of this "in spite of... not because of" argument. So are you suggesting that the players basically sleep-walked their way to 3rd place in the league and Jimmy Quinn had no input whatsoever? It's got nothing to do with pulling the wool over people's eyes, it's to do with do with the manager doing a good (if not great) job in getting a team to 3rd place in their first season in the Conference, the highest a team just relegated from Div.3 has finished for 13 years since Colchester came runners-up to Barnet. You state loud and clear that Quinn is not the man for the job, well, as per usual for the Anti-Quinn brigade, you haven't suggested an alternative, have you? All mouth and no action some of you.

Anyone facing us in the play offs will be as worried about us just as we are concerned about them.
What Chester and Hereford have done is play a style of football to enable them to grind out results. Mattsnapper made the point about conceding goals in the last 15. We started to look wobbly with about 10 mins to go on Sat. We seem intent of retreating closer and closer to our own line rather than pushing forward.
Look how many Chester have nicked in the last few minutes. I would argue that Hereford are the better of the two teams on what I have seen.
I think considering what JQ had when he over he has done very well to get us third. As for him going??
NO CHANCE and rightly so!

well lets get rid of this inheritance myth.
When JQ came in, he was lucky in that most of the dead wood were out of contract and thus released, leaving him with Tolley, Edwards,Rodgers,Moss, these four players alone are good enough to feature in most div2/3 teams let along conference team. he was given a big budget and free reign to bring in who he wanted.
Which he did.
Yes we are 3rd, which isnt bad, however the style and mannor in which we have got to 3rd is nigh on unacceptable. Our leading striker gets dropped for personal reasons for a large part of the season. JQ fails to build a team around the best striker in this league (Rodgers). the treatment of certain players appears on face value to be unacceptable (Drysdale, G Tolley, Rodgers, Cramb, Rioch).
Yet despite all this we have played consistantly average (at best) and landed up sitting pretty in 3rd.

Can't believe what I'm reading. The Shrews have finished 3rd in their first season in what is a weird league to get used to. You have an even chance (in my humble opinion) of getting back into the league at the first attempt........ and you're calling for the managers head. Do you know how pathetic this looks to an outsider? Especially one with a soft spot for you.

LOL, I know how it looks to a certain extent.
But having herd some of the stuff thats been going on behind the scenes and having seen the majority of our games I can certanly see where the anti Quinn brigade are comming from.
He doesnt help himself when he comes of with Ratcliffisms to try and fobb us off with an appalling defeat or draw.
Having said that most of the supporters are behind him still.
