Its clear that the Squad depth is with the Under 20;s but will this be a match for the expericen of the Vets.
A bit of class Borrowed
Both the Veterans and the Under 20s will be making use of a loophole in the SFTOTY trophy which allows non participating ASFC players to be drafted in to the teams one off basis. Late last week The Under 20’s made a positive move in the midfield by securing the services of Ant Thomas – important ASFC player. Whilst the Veterans already had the uses of BelvueShrew and PeteD of Away supporters fame. But the fans ask is this fair? Fan Jimmy “joker” Quinn commented “Well taking a big wage at ASFC you would think that these players would be happy, but frankly the days of mercenary footballers are with us and w must live with it”
What ever happens the outcome of this vital game might very well rest on these “mercenaries”
A big man for a big Game
A hard game like this needs a strong ref and by all accounts they have got one. Ref Pilch will be dominating the game with his own style of refereeing. We interview the man in the middle and here what he had to say. “ well I have herd a lot about these two teams and lest say I think its going to be physical.” “ I know there are a few who might need protecting for some comments to the press and I will do my best to keep Rob and TOAO from getting bullied out of the game” When asked about his incredible red car record of 13 reds in 24 games the ref laughed and Said “ well if players want to get nasty they walk” and “ I have always said that Foul Throws should be a bookable offence”. One things for Sure the odds on a red card will be low for this weeks game.
A Young Manager for a Young Team
Manager Peter Jones is looking forward to locking horns with a seasoned pro like Jamo and says it will be the biggest challenge of his short career so far. After training yesterday Jones took time out to fill us in on his thoughts on the subject. “I have always admired the older managers – the Robsons and Furgesons and Jamo2 is up there with them” “they bring a air of class to a club whilst passing on year of tricks to there players” But was Jones worried about this “ if they are old School then im most defiantly New school, We have tactics and style of play that were only in Arthur C Clarks book when Jamo 2 was a kid, they will be in for a shock” . If the Under 20s are to stand a chance then Jones will have to use some of the Knowledge gained from his secret scout at the last Vets game “ yeah he had some stuff about the game we worked into training and hopefully it will help” . Time well tell if jones is to make the step up to big time player/manager over the next few days
The Slopy Star will be back over the next few days with more storeys, odds and reports on the build up to the big game.
