This, I am reliably informed, is the wage bill at one of our Conference rivals. I am not going to name my source, to avoid causing him embarrassment, but he assures me that this is genuine. Now, when you consider that this club averaged approx 1000 fans per home game, last season, and have boosted attendances this season to about 1700 per game, you will see that the figures do not add up. 1700 @ £10 = £17000 x 21 games = £357000. £22000 x 52 weeks = £1144000 and even if the wages were only paid for 9 months, it still equates to £858000. Our friends will need to make a hell of a lot of cash from other sources, to sustain this level of spending.

If its you know who, then the players arent payed by the club but by the owners company. Thats my reckoning

I am fully aware of that, but what sort of company is prepared to write off losses on this scale indefinately. You don't need to be "Brain of Britain", to appreciate, that even if this club was to achieve its ambition of playing in the Nationwide League, they would never attract any level of support to cover their outgoings.

i think they swindle the 65% wage cap by paying the players a large signing on fee, then pay them reduced wages - does that make sense?

Unless he is Telfords accountant or Chairman i wouldn't think he would know the clubs wage bill?

If this is the club I think it would be very feesible to put the players on the Chairmans / Owner company wage bill especially if that person owns more than one business and also saves the owner a hell of a lot of tax on profit e.t.c.
But I can assure you that is not the clubs you all thinks wage bill cant say any more than that.

So peted thinks my post is all bollox and gossip, and I am expected to break a confidence. Does PPP get similarly slated, when he talks about a possible investor in STFC. I hope not, because although I have no idea who he is referring to, I am quite sure that what he tells us is true. Back to my original post :- 1. It shouldn't take a brain surgeon, to work out which club is the subject of this topic. Just consult Confguide, with the information given in the post. 2. If you wish to know the name of the source, which I am sure will validate my post, I will e-mail it to you, but ask you to respect, that given the name of the individual, we should not go splashing it around.
And YES, I realise that I would be breaking a confidence, but I want you to know that this is NOT "bollox and gossip".

You don't have to be a brain surgeon to figure that one out.
Hotel turnover and Gym club membership. More especially the latter. Telford are a serious threat, as long as Andy Shaw stays interested for say another 3 seasons or so.

We paid £1,400,000+ on wages 2002-2003.
Our wage bill has since increased both on the playing and non-playing side I believe.

Welshshrew, perhaps you would like to think we are paying more, more likely we are still within our budget.

No sorry Reverand, just using the club's official accounts and the words of director Keith Sayfritz to point out that we are spending over 1.5million a year on wages.
Am I wrong?

MMmmm perhaps Mr Sayfritz is preening a little, good way to attract players isnt it?, my quess we might be a about the same this year, maybe even a little less?

Nope, we are definitely spending more, but probably not that much more.
We can sustain this until 2005.
However, we will then need to spend significantly less (assuming we haven't been promoted) to ensure our continued existence.
Basically, it's a two season shot. I'm less and less confident that we have made any progress since August 2003 towards that goal.

Next season we lose the parachute payment so all the only real source of income will be our gate reciepts.
BTW - have a look at the Balance Sheet for last year and see how much of the club's income comes from League Subsidies and TV Money - both of which we don't get in the Conference.

I can assure you that is NOT the wage bill for the playing staff per week.
I am sorry but I can guarantee you that that information is STRICTLY NOT true, maybe if you include all people on that companies wage bill you might be nearer
e.g Hotel staff, Admin Staff, Chairmens salary, Manager, Groud staff, Matchday staff and playing staff then 22k is a reasonable figure but to suggest it is just for the playing staff if total NONSENSE

Exkeeper....i'm not saying what you have said is bollox simply saying that such a post is,what i'm saying is simple.......if you think we need to or should know this then why not give all the details,is your source a regular on here? if not then tell us,simple....if this "news" is generaly common knowledge then the name of the club could also be mentioned.
and as Petejones and also ppp,as with anyother romour monger have recently found out people are sick to the teeth with half gestures myself included.

Interesting post from "OFFICIAL". Fair enough. But the answer shows what a serious threat Telford is. Note the two most important words in there: "hotel staff".
The club turnover will include gym income, hotel income, gate receipts, merchandising. Perhaps in that order of importance (?)
Very well thought out - and if the execution matches it Telford United will get promotion to the Football League within three years. Because even at this level money talks.

I'm yet to believe that the hotel will be financing Telford United, surely Andy Shaw has done it to fund his own pocket in one way or another?
