We will always be a lower league football club, and it has nothing to do with finance. Its about the fact that as supporters we accept poor performances, accept poor management and as a bunch of supporters accept we are poor ourselves. 118 years of history suggests there will be no change. The Vauxhall Conference being the end product of this acceptance. We witness poor performances and consequently encouraged to cheer instead of boo. We witness poor management appointments and decisions and consequently encouraged to give more time. We witness yo-yoing attendance figures and consequently told it’s due to the number of games in quick succession. We accept the fact that our rivals are regarded as Telford and Hereford. We accept the fact that decisions regarding our home ground are out of our control. We accept that doing well in the Conference are the ‘good times’
Maybe the underlying reason behind this acceptance is a lack of passion.
Boo poor performances. Protest publicly at bad management Turn up in numbers.
Don’t let this club go through the motions and be a football club in name only.

"Boo poor performances. Protest publicly at bad management Turn up in numbers."
All of which i have done and will continue to do - Its the rest of the fans who - just go throught the "motions" at a game - but with all the stuff above its little wonder really is it
Little change will occer even if we go back up either - i new approach to this problem needs to be found!!!! but its beyond me!!

I'd love to be able to say Shrews rivals were the Baggies, unfortunately most Shrews fans are happy to accept Telford.

Gin, I have my suspicions that you are not a true Shrews fan and you have been using this board to try and gain acceptance by our wonderful set of fans- but just to put my mind at rest could you complete the following phrases for me: Going Down the ----------- to see the Shrewsbury Aces Ooooh Aarggh T------ L-----and When do we usually sing Come On You Blues Sorry to Doubt your Integrity. I am sure you will prove me wrong

Firstly, We will neve be a vauxhall conference team, theres no such league, its the Nationwide conference.
Ok, Cheer when we're good, but don't boo when we're bad. Booing affects the confidence of the recipients, and has a detrimental affect on the performance.
For the last ten years or so, we have had to accept the management we can get. We are a Conference side, We're not going to get top coaches queuing at the meadow for a job. We have to put up with Conference Coaches.
We have to accept that Telford and Hereford are rivals. Thats because they are. its a fact. They won't always be.
As far as turning up in numbers is concerned, tell me a conference side with better home attendances, and also, look at our away attendances. We often give opposing clubs their biggest attendance of the season. I dont see your issue, We are a conference club, we have attendances, even on a bad week, higher than most, if not all, other matches in the same league (and the one above for that matter)
so stop whinging, accept what you've got, and get behind the club.

Well said Somerset- we should not accept this from someone whos all time favourite Shrews players are Graham Turner, Tim Steele, Andy Thompson and Colin Robinson (spot the connection )

I think Somerset has just proved his point hasn’t he...
"so stop whinging, accept what you've got, and get behind the club"? Accept what you've got?
I have no idea who he is or whether he is a Town fan but for me ginboomerang makes some good points in his post.

Stuttgarter, Im a Town fan of some 30 years. The reason I say we have to accept what we've got, is because it's all we've got right now.
Im not saying things shouldn't be better, I'd be among the first to say that Im not satisfied with what has happened over the last few years, but how can we change it?
No amount of protests are going to make the board change their mind over anything, because they do what they do, and because its what they do, they do it far better than I could.
So we have to accept what we have. For now.

for now? we've been accepting for 118 years.

I suppose when we were in the old division 2 we shouldn't have accepted that either. Should have been in Division 1.
Support is for life, not just for the good times.

Accepted 'what' for 118 years?
Overall Shrewsbury as a footballing town has achieved a damn lot more than similar sized towns such as Worcester, Chelmsford and Gloucester.
I dont want us to be in the Conference, but I feel we will be back in the League this summer, and if not this summer, then next summer, the players and coaching staff already know of our 'zero tolerance' attitude towards bad performances, the game at Dagenham is a very good example of that.

depends on your ambition for the club, personally I'd like to see Shrewsbury in the Premiership, and before you say impossible, Wimbledon proved a club can emerge from nowhere and contest the 'big boys'

My ambitions match yours in that respect, but it is really realistic? Division 1 remains the ultimate ambition for me as I think that is the most realistic target, maybe Mr Poole is going to bankroll us all the way to the Premiership in a 40,000 seater New Meadow? Why not eh?

Well, we agree on something. I'd like to see them in the premier$hip too.
but for now.............

I'd rather we compared against Bolton, Charlton, Fulham, similar in catchment area size, rather than Worcester et al.
