Very true it is a well known fact that people who pass second time are safer drivers!

I'm with Rob as a third time passer. Failed twice wihile I was still 17 then went to uni and stopped lessons. Did a crash course in the Easter holiday of my second year when I was 19. Six hours a day for four days then test on Friday morning which I passed. It was a great week as it started on Sunday April 14 1996 with a trip to Wembley for a certain Auto Windscreens final (shame about the result mind!) and ended with me as a fully fledged driver five days later!!!

I was a late starter as it was- and it took me a few attempts to pass my test (I daren't say how many - but Maureen on "Driving School" has a serious rival!!) I really think that, because Mr Wiggy thinks that every other motorist on the roads, except him, is a complete idiot, I somehow got the impression that driving was this terrribly difficult thing I could never do!! However- pass I did. And I'm as good as any other driver and better than a few!! I'm very patient and tolerant because I know how it feels to be a learner. (Mr Wiggy was happy enough to trust me to drive him around when he was too ill to drive himself!) My first instructor was an older man near to retirement he was - patient and kind but didn't give me a kick when I needed it!! My second instructor was a young woman who taught me to be a bit more cheeky and self- confident- and it worked! Took my successful test in Wigan (after failing in St Helens) We were late, I'd been working all morning, then we were held up by traffic- we arrived just in time - the examiners were already coming into the room. I'd got to the stage where I couldn't care less- and I passed!!!

My first instructor was an older man near to retirement he was - patient and kind but didn't give me a kick when I needed it!! Same with me, my instructor is looking to retire soon and is not taking on any new pupils, maybe I have the same problem as you did even though it would be hard to 'ditch' him as he is a nice bloke, mind you for a 'old' man he drives bloody fast! Also, is the Clio the worst car to learn to drive in? I've drove a Clio and a Corsa and the Corsa is better by a country mile, I only used the Corsa whilst my instructor's Clio was being repaired though.
