If this all goes tits up, and we end up waiting a long time for new stadium, and, possibly more importantly, the new training facilities, i wonder what Gary Peters will make of it.

All members of the Development Control Committee voted against the proposal to defer the community facilities for five years and Graham Watson was there to have his say.
There was some doubt that if the club did not provide the facilities withing 5 years there would be little the Council could do about it. A number of councillors made the point that if the original plan did not include community facilites it would have been unlikely to be approved

While the club haven't done themselves any favours on some of the NM stuff, the council still have a lot to answer for.
I am certain that they were fully aware that the initial plans to include community pitches etc were based upon receiving funding from the council for its sports provision.
They then that away to fund the 10million pound tennis centre (which as we all know was given planning permission and rushed ahead with an eyelid being blinked by the same members) leaving the club to foot the bill itself.
It's enough of a reason not to vote Tory in this Town.

They then that away to fund the 10million pound tennis centre . Which is hardly used. I drive past that place 4 or 5 times a week at various times of the day and have never seen more that one tennis court being used.

I would of thought the proposal of cummunity pitches for the people of Shrewsbury and the surrounding area would have been well recieved by the public.Guys in the future the club will hopefully continue and grow with the support of the people in the area, what better for both parties than to have a community spirit in Shropshire by providing for the budding Town wannabies areas where they feel "part" of the club. When the mist clears i hope that people will realise the club has to work with the local government and vice-versa.

I've never used the quote before so I hope this is working. Probably the same as Kevin Ratcliffe when he left and had a pop at the council.

Well all those that are undecided on who to vote for in the local elections - think - check out the previous results for your area/ward and vote tactically. Vote for the candidate that will have the best chance of putting out a tory.

withint he 106 SABC can set the charges for the community pitches - which would be the same as council levels so STFC will never make a decent profit from them so STFC don;t particularly want to build them, because thie rmoney can go further spent on other things BUT 1) what a great chance for fans to get involved? A major initiative for the embrionic shrewsTRUST to get it's teeth into perhaps? 2) even if we don't make much money it does increase our turnover considerably which means that we have more flexibility with wages 3) It will increase the 'community' feel of the ground and help to attract new people. It also makes a bar a more viable proposition during the week The profit in such scheme's/facillities IMO is devloping the next geneeration of Town players and given the club a legitimate basis to call itself a 'community club'. Mentioned it before the main reason I see for moving is to improve corporate & training/community facilities. the GM supporter wise is adequate enough I think-so without thing slike 5 a side pitches etc I see little or no long term benefit to moving. As mentioned above its time to rally round and get these facilities include and running-this is'nt a negative I think its a HUGE positive

I am now confused the two reports seem to conflict with each other If we have the 5 year delay that is fantastic news I will wait for a text message of IRJBA in the morning - that normally settles my confusion While the club had a legitimate reason for delaying the community facilities which the Council officers accepted the politicians in their usual common sence way saw things the other way. As Keith says in his submission they can appeal against the decision and in these matters the Officer's opinion will count more than what the politicians. The thing which the politicians don't seem to consider is that if the NM doesn't go ahead you won't get the community facilities either. It's alright saying that they've got £10m for the stadium then they should have enough for the community facilities as well - but that ignores the basic economic problems that clubs like STFC have. Everyone seems to think that all football clubs are loaded. Yes the club will be getting a grant from the Football Foundation for the stadium - but that is for developing spectator facilities. It is not very ethical to suggest that you should then use this money for community facilities. The funny thing is that SABC are quite happy to take grants from football to develop their facilities, but aren't prepared to give the local football club any latitude. As for Graham Watson it's interesting that he says the facilities are needed in Sutton. I've got SARA leaflets on file that say that new facilities aren't needed in sutton and they should be built elsewhere! What was that nice Mr Howard saying about Mr Blair the other day?
