I've got to get car insurance for my little peugot 106 (I'm currently just a named driver) and so have been scouting around a bit for quotes.
I've heard that Norwich Union do some good quotes so have been on their website.
But what I don't understand is how they work out their quotes.
For example I entered all the details and got a quote of £690 for fully comp insurance for 12 months
Not bad I thought.
But then I decided to add 'Enhanced' Courtesy car cover to this (previously I had no courtesy car requirement) and hit 're-quote'.
The new price is just £548 - a reduction of £140.
Am I going mad or is most car insurance calculated in a funny way??

Car Insurance is a big rip off
some insurers take accidents in the last five years, other take 3
If your premium has gone down Ant make sure your excess has not gone up as well, some times they do that slyly!
online deals are often better, and I saved about £200 by swapping to Norwich Union

I was led to believe that £540 was pretty reasonable. I'll keep having a look around to see if it can be bettered.

Try confused.com, they check a lot of insurers for you. Know a couple of people here who've used it.

I have found admiral or tesco have always been the best option in terms of cost/cover/replacement car/low excess etc.

And if the accident was not your fault you would have no worries in providing the information, but if it was then you have to bite the bullet and pay the extra.

My son who is 21 has been a bit naughty in the past and has a few endorcements . Last week, NU quoted him £1200 per year TPFT. This week, his girlfriend asked them for a quote for her, a learner driver, with him as a named driver, and they quoted £748.

As I have four cars (dont ask) on the road I am always re-newing insurance. They thing to do is just go from site to site and test them out with your details to find the best deal. Norway spoke of Morethan, not a bad firm but will not touch young drivers. For the record Ant my daughter has just done her 106 Fully Comp for £800 with Tesco so your deal looks good. Shop around is the secret.

If you don't really understand just say - if the fact that your vehicle was written off was your fault then thats life you expect to pay more. If however it was not your fault then you would have nothing to worry about by declaring it.

Ant, if you've a few years (claim free) on a named driver policy see if they will take that into account and give you some no claims bonus. It has been known.
