Time for Luke and the club to move on, its probably fair to say that he has gone a little stale over the last couple of seasons, ever since the £200k Crewe bid was turned down. He has provided me and most STFC fans with some fantastic memories that I'm sure none of us will ever forget and I'll always remember him for that, but if he goes to another League 2 club like Mansfield then it will feel like a kick in the teeth to me

Gutted about this, not happy at all...big loss for Town this... Hope he goes to a higher division...don't want to see him play against Town in this division and wouldn't be too happy if another club at our level offered him a better contract than what we put together...

Good luck to the little lad - wherever he goes.
But the bigger question - who is going to be our 20 goal striker for next season ?
If GP is serious about promotion we need someone who can score at least that number of goals.

I think it's best for both parties, particularly if we can get a six-figure fee. Luke has been coming back into form recently but his season never lived up to expectations. Plus he still hasn't conquered his disciplinary problems. A change will be good for him and might lead to a shake-up in the way we play.

Is it possible Luke was on the biggest money at the club? Thats what is possibly sounds like. Anyhow I echo the sentiments of Sean. He's gone downhill abit maybe, but some of the goals, some of the performances. Man is a legend. In a team who got relegated without a care in the world, we forget how average Moss' performances were , Luke Rodgers was one of the few players who continued to do all he could to keep us up against the odds. Yes he had a habit of getting sent off, but who cares. No one can fault his effort. "So long and good night" Thank you very much Lukey Rodgers. You are a star. Boy Its going to be emotional at the scunny game

He was offered a contract as that is what the Bosman ruling requires. It's going to be when he gets subbed in the last game.

As much as I will hate to see Luke go, (best wishes to him when he does), can I ask what the connection is between Luke and a 20 goal striker for next season ?. There has been little evidence of 20 goals a season from Luke for the last couple of years at least.

There are not many players that im genuinely sad to see leave in the last few years but luke will be one that we will as fans and as a club miss big time So what if he has not done much this year and struggled last – the lads 23 and wants more from life than League 2 struggles. Its not a shock that lukes form has suffered in the seasons where we have also struggled!!! The memories he’s given us over the years will be remembered and there will always be a place for him back here if anything ever goes wrong in the future for the lad But I cant think of anything better than watching match of the day and seeing Luke scoring Goals in the Prem to help try and save Ipswich (or whoever!!) Good luck luke On a side note – Marco Addagio has just taken another massive step up the ladder to regular first team football but there is no doubt in my mind that another forward will be brought in now (Shearon again next season???)

The top teams in the league all have a striker who has scored at least 20 goals - something you need to get promotion out of this league

People are either trying to find problems with lack of money etc etc at GM, there is no problem, Luke wants to better his career. There is certainly no problem with that.

Surely if Luje is looking to leave to further his career it won't be to another Div 2 club. He already has an offer from one of them - US.
If he remains in Div 2 I guess it will mean no clubs from higher up have come in (Or not offered a good deal). Going to the likes of Chester or Mansfield is NOT a step up.

This news comes as no real surprise to me. As much as i'd have liked him to stay, i just feel that it is the best interests of Luke and the club for Luke to ply his trade elsewhere. As to where he'll end up is anyone's guess. Personally i can't see him playing any higher than League 1, maybe somewhere like Walsall (he deserves better) maybe Forest if they come down. Over the last 2 seasons Luke just hasn't been right, some say he hasn't been the same since Jemson left, maybe that's right, but shows lack of adaptability on Lukes part if he can only play with one partner. He just hasn't consistantly looked the player he was, he seems to have lost that extra yard of pace he had, doesn't seem to be able to out run defences like he used to. Maybe we just haven't played to his strenghths at times. Over the last 3/4 months he has shon signs of learning to play alongside a target man, he's been getting closer to Langmead, reading flick-ons, looking for them. That he never did, was always too far away from him. Wherever he ends up i ish him well and hope pastures new can rekindle the Luke we know and love. Good luck Luke and thanks.

Gutted to see him go Luke's been brilliant to STFC even though if in the past two seasons he hasn't scored as many goals as he/us would have liked. His effort and commitment should never be doubted. I don't know why he thinks we'll boo him! On a personal note I can't get to GM for the Scunny game as I can't get my hands on such a big amount of money in such a short space of time so give him an ovation from me too. It will be amazing I'm sure.... So good luck Luke and thanks for the memories Town legend!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I've made my comments on the "Luke" thread! faginy, it's a wonder we haven't had the waggy finger warning about having more than one thread on the same subject!! In summary. I'm sad to see him go, always had a soft spot for him and admired him for his work-rate. But the lad needs to move on- the time is right for him and I really wish him well!

Boy Its going to be emotional at the scunny game I'd agree with most of that Rob. Time for a change for both parties. I think he has not progressed enough in the last 18months to be honest. The standards he set before that were amazing for a player so young. Hes given Town fans some tremendous memories, some stunning goals and has been a good servant. Some will say that we should have cashed in earlier, but the kid stayed during our conference campaign and credit to him. He needs to sort out the discipline side of his game, far too many costly suspensions through culmination of bookings - his absence during the relegation run was as costly as anything that season. All the best Luke, been a pleasure to watch you in Blue and Amber.
