Certainly a lot of balls in this thread. We have a Director of Football, Hurst is happy to work with him, Steve C wasn't. So, there's a view of let's upset the applecart and go back to where we were - the system that got us into too many players under one manager and too few under another. Just as we are set up we have a chance of better football next season. Just as we are now set up we have our best chance of attracting investment or a new owner.
So let's let our set up work.

If/when a potential investor/new owner knocks on the door they will discuss team strategy with our Director of Football and club strategy with Liam - it's the professional way of doing things these days.

Am I the only one thinking that some of the younger players that currently arent up to the required standard may well improve significantly with some decent coaching by an experienced coach and some older players who's confidence isnt shot to pieces playing in a system that they are comfortable with?
I think one of two of those not good enough might surprise you next season. Not all of them though I guess.

At best those comments are naive and at worst completely disingenuous. ‘Hurst is happy to work with him’ just maybe as a result of the fact that he was parachuted into a football club 2/3rds of the way through a season, where that football club was in complete free fall with a playing squad that was not up to the job, unfit for the playing demands expected and lacking in any tactical ability whatsoever. When he came, he had no choice. He does now.

Just maybe Hurst would prefer to identify targets and get the DoF to get them in, also he’s had months to scour the different leagues and identify targets for the coming season to discuss with PH and decide on a strategy depending on budget and which league we’re in. Wasn’t too keen on the idea of a DoF at our level but also not keen on changing things that might not need changing. We’ll find out soon enough, if MM still here in a couple of weeks we’ll be running with him I’d think.

Cotterill didn't have balls big enough to work with the reduced budget he was responsible for in the first place , and demanded exactly what your naive thread is asking hurst to do, it would have led to the downfall of our club in a shockingly fast way , fortunately the guy with the biggest balls at the club stood his ground and did exactly what needed doing for our club to survive and compete . despite misleading stats , incorrect stats , blatant lies , fake rumours etc you know as well as we all do that this isn't likely to change until someone with money to burn for fun turns up . All your threads do is give 'naive' fans false hope , on a near daily basis

One of the attractions to Mr Hurst (apart from the fact he was unemployed ) may have been the fact that there is a DOF and he wouldn’t have to be doing paperwork when he could be concentrating on what he knows he does best - spotting gems and getting the team ready for matches.

Genuinely confused and somewhat baffled by your constantly shape-shifting narrative on this.

Hurst (and Doig) will take the plaudits for keeping us up and, with that in mind, I expect Hurst to very much dictate the recruitment strategy this summer. Under the previous regime, I got the impression that Taylor was very much junior to Moore in that relationship, despite what the club said.

For me, 'Director of Football' is a nonsense job. What does it actually entail that the head coach/manager cannot do along with his assistant?
It's surely only about identifying talent at other clubs and in the case of this season, identifying the lack thereof within the existing squad. (Most of us could do the latter in about five minutes...........and without a fancy salary)
If the head coach quite rightly has the final say on who is brought in....or at least approached, then why not let him do the whole job anyway.
I would be grateful if anyone could post the current " director of Football' detailed Job Description. I like a good chuckle.

I don't think so , I think the label I gave was fraudwell to someone else , only ever accused cotterill of taking the p**s when spending on essentials like hotels , medical treatment , and sundries etc , his deal with Umbro was suspect and absurd and of course he was an out and out bully , but yes , he point blank refused to lead us this season , and as good as threw Brian under the bus as far as signing the cheques went ( as for shape shifting , more things come to light , especially if you go digging for them )

I like a good chuckle. we currently have a manager who in the past suddenly scarpered, we struggled to replace him and ended up with a guy who didn't fit into our structure and we had to start all over again not long after , just before the DOF was appointed we had a manager who thought he was bigger than the club, he ignored procedure and did his own thing, it cost us enormously. so DOF arrives, he knows all the plans, he knows all the players, all the contracts and where they are at, he knows the budget, he likely knows the retained list, he knows of potential signings, he can speak for the chairman without the need for the chairman to even have to face a bully of a manager if that s the case. and as we saw in January, if the current manager needs replacing its quite a straight forward task

I think the director of football role is important and is clearly a very positive thing when executed well.
Mickey Moore's recruitment this year has been really, really disappointing.
We've been kept up by Cotterill signings.
The loans have been very poor.
Feeney is the standout good signing although has had to play half the season out of position. We seemed to accidentally pick up Benning and Pierre but both have done really well which is not surprising given their pedigree.
The league of Ireland lads have been almost universally disappointing. Sobwale might make it with some decent coaching and Mata could yet outdo Kris Bright for being a disappointment which would take some doing.
We're the lowest scorers with an awful goal difference. Our only real threat is Shipley and Udoh.
Not a single new signing has done anything to improve us as a team.
I wouldn't trust Mickey Moore to choose me a packet of sweets, let alone a footballer.

That's a pretty stark assessment but sadly so much of it is true. The only thing I would hold back on are the loan signings, due to injuries we never really got to see what they could have added to the squad.

Don't forget folks...Cotterill is currently working under a DoF at Forest Green. The DoF at Forest Green was given his marching orders within a few weeks of Steve joining them. Dale Vince is fully supportive of the manager having ultimate power: I think it’s a smokescreen from anyone to suggest that Cotterill was unwilling to work with Moore. Bringing in Moore was a power-play to undermine and destabilise Cotterill and contribute to him leaving. He wasn’t even aware of his appointment until it was publicly announced!

For FGRs sake I just hope that SC doesn't have direct access to the clubs cheque book🙄

If that is the case, how can it be considered a key position in the club hierarchy? No idea as to the specifics of our DoF but I found this summary online. What is a director of football?
A director of football is an executive that is the link between the first team manager and the board, they are also responsible for the medium and long-term strategy for the club and offer stability even if the first team manager is sacked or resigns.
Exact duties can be different from club to club but in general they work with the board and the manager to identify transfer targets in line with the club philosophy, handling player contracts, complete transfers and ensure the club comply with financial fair play rules.
In the main, the director of football should ensure the club is moving towards its long-term vision and not resorting to short-term measures. You could also have a listen to his first interviews when he joined the club when he outlined his previous role at Cheltenham and what he would be bringing to this new role.

I saw more development in recruitment and the academy under Hursts control in his first spell than anything so far with a supposed specialist in place.
Save some money, do away with Moore, bring in a head of recruitment, and let Hurst run all things football.
